“QS Quacquarelli Symonds”, an organization presenting the world's leading research and ranking lists in higher education, has announced a ranking of the best universities in Europe. Compared to last year, there is progress in the positions of 7 out of 9 Azerbaijani universities represented in the mentioned list.  Sumgayit State University entered the "rating list of the best universities in Europe" for the first time.   The indicators "Academic reputation" and "Reputation among employers" of all higher education institutions of Azerbaijan presented in the rating have improved. Baku State University and Azerbaijan State University of Economics were included in the list of the 200 best universities in Europe according to the indicator "Academic Reputation", and Baku State University and Sumgait State University were included in the list of the 100 best universities in Europe according to the indicator "Teacher to Student Ratio".   The indicator "Employment results" is also one of the areas in which higher education institutions in Azerbaijan have achieved high results. Baku State University ranks first in the country in terms of "Employment of graduates" and Azerbaijan State University of Economics ranks first in the country in terms of "Reputation among employers".   Also, Baku State University has the highest index among the universities of Azerbaijan on the index "International Scientific Cooperation", which is used in assessing the scientific-research activities of higher education institutions. In its turn, Khazar University is among the 20 best universities in Europe in terms of "Number of citations per article" indicator. And, Azerbaijan State University of Economic has the highest position in the country on the indicator "Achievements in the field of sustainable development goals".   It should be noted that Azerbaijan is represented by the largest number of universities from the South Caucasus region in the "ranking-list of the best universities in Europe".

The delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Science and Education Hasan Hasanli is visiting Uzbekistan to participate in the "13th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan".   During the visit, Hasan Hasanly met with the Deputy Minister of Preschool and General Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sardor Rajabov Bakhtiyorovich, as well as with the Deputy Minister of Science, Higher Education, and Innovation, Shohrukh Daliyev Khojakbarovich.   The current situation and prospects of cooperation between the two countries in pre-school, general education, science, and higher education were discussed during the meeting.

On July 9, the Azerbaijani Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to the Republic of Azerbaijan Ahmad Kamrizamil Bin Mohd Riza.   During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state of cooperation between the two countries in the field of science and education and prospects for further cooperation.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the Garabagh University in Khankendi on July 5 to inspect the renovation work undertaken at the institution.   Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev informed the head of state about the renovations completed at the university.   The facade of the building was repainted, and historical elements were restored at the main entrance.   All the rooms will be equipped with modern furniture and equipment. Extensive landscaping transformed the university's surroundings, including the creation of a new park designed to meet contemporary standards.   About 1,120 students across 27 specialties are expected to enroll at the university for the 2024/2025 academic year. A meeting on "Accelerating Progress Towards Sustainable Development Goal 4: Transformative Education Outcomes" was held at UNESCO Headquarters on 17 June. The ministers of education, finance, and environment attended the meeting of the organization’s member countries.   A video message from the Minister of Science and Education of Azerbaijan, Emin Amrullayev, to the participants was played at the meeting. The message mentioned priorities related to socio-economic development and a number of activities planned in our country's education field within COP29.

The Azerbaijan-United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministerial Forum on exchange of experience was kicked off in Baku on 11 June.   The event is jointly organized by the State Agency for Citizen Services and Social Innovation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the UAE Ministry of Cabinet Affairs.   About 30 officials from the Emirates engaged in various spheres, including high-ranking officials of our country, are taking part in the forum held within the framework of the implementation of the "Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United Arab Emirates" on exchange of governmental experience".   The purpose of the Forum is to promote innovation and technology in public service delivery, and to identify appropriate frameworks and policies to accelerate economic recovery. In addition, the main objectives include discussing new developments in education and social welfare, as well as trends related to topics such as the environment and green energy in connection with the COP29 event in our country. Deputy Minister of Science and Education Hasan Hasanli attended the opening ceremony of the forum.   A video clip on Azerbaijan-UAE cooperation was shown at the opening of the forum.   Then, Ulvi Mehdiyev, Chairman of the State Agency for Citizens' Service and Social Innovation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Ohoud Al Rumi, UAE Minister of State for State Development and Future Affairs, delivered opening speeches.   Then, presentations were made by officials from Azerbaijan and the UAE in various fields. Within the framework of the program, the best practices gained by both countries in their respective fields were presented.   It is worth noting that on the second day of the forum it is planned to organize sessions covering a number of topics.

On June 1, Azerbaijan's Shusha city hosted the 7th meeting of the Scientific Council of the Turkic Academy. Speaking at the event, President of the Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev highlighted the holding of the meeting in Shusha as a significant event. He emphasized that this meeting facilitates the exchange of views aimed at strengthening scientific cooperation and making relevant decisions.   For his part, the Azerbaijani Minister of Science and Education, Emin Amrullayev, expressed his satisfaction with this prestigious event. Speaking about the goals of the Turkic Academy, Emin Amrullayev, elaborated on the collaborative efforts in the fields of science and education undertaken within the framework of cooperation with the Academy.   The agenda items for the meeting were then discussed.   A report on the activities of the Turkic Academy was presented as part of the meeting.

On June 1, the VIII Meeting of the Ministers of Education of the Organization of Turkic States was held in Azerbaijan's Shusha.   The Minister of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Emin Amrullayev, who delivered the opening speech, welcomed the guests and underlined the successes achieved by the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in a short period, which are admirable.   Saying that the Ministry of Science and Education is happy to contribute to these pivotal processes, Emin Amrullayev emphasized that the foundation of sustainable and healthy cooperation between the Turkic-speaking countries is the youth. The minister noted that in this regard, the exchange of students of general educational institutions within the framework of OTS enables our schoolchildren to get to know our common history, culture and traditions.   The minister said that within the organization's framework and bilateral cooperation, relations between the OTS member states have been steadily thriving. He assessed the schools built with the support of brotherly countries in the territories liberated from occupation, as well as other works done, as another symbol of friendship and brotherhood between our countries.   At the end of his speech, the minister touched upon the goals ahead for the development of bilateral cooperation with OTS member and observer countries.   Later, other guests spoke and talked about strengthening cooperation in the fields of science and education.   After the speeches, the issues on the agenda of the meeting were discussed.
