The Azerbaijani schoolchildren successfully performed at the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO 2024) held in Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, July 21-30.   Our team of 4 students won 1 silver and 3 bronze medals at the international competition, which was attended by 297 students from 84 countries.   At the mentioned Olympiad, Sattar Sharifzadeh, a student of the 11th grade of Baku Turkish Lyceum of “Dayanat” Turkish Foundation, received a silver medal, Murad Khalilzadeh and Umid Mustafazadeh, students of the 10th grade of Baku Republican Lyceum with chemical-biological bias, and Nihad Hajizadeh, a student of the 11th grade of Baku Turkish Lyceum of “Dayanat” Turkish Foundation, received a bronze medal.

The 4th European Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI 2024) was held on July 21-27 in Veldhoven, Kingdom of the Netherlands.   At the Olympiad, in which 194 schoolgirls from 56 countries took part, our students won 2 bronze medals and 1 incentive award.   Rahidil Bayramli, a 9th grade student of Baku Physics, Mathematics and Informatics biased Lyceum and Nigar Hajiyeva, an 11th grade student of Baku Modern Education Complex, were awarded a bronze medal, and Ayan Kerimova, a 10th grade student of Ganja Republican Physics, Mathematics and Informatics biased Lyceum, was awarded an incentive prize at the said Olympiad   It should be noted that since 2017 the process of preparation for international Olympiads in informatics has been carried out with the support of “Azercell Telekom” LLC. During this period, our students from different age groups across the country have won a total of 72 medals in programming competitions of various scales.

Our students successfully represented our country at the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2024) held in Isfahan, Islamic Republic of Iran, July 21-29.   230 students from 46 countries competed with their knowledge and skills in physics at the Olympiad organized at Isfahan University of Technology.   At the Olympiad, consisting of theoretical and practical rounds, Azerbaijani students won 1 silver and 1 bronze medal, and 2 motivational awards.   Thus, Ibrahim Valehli, the 10th grade student of the “Kaspi” Lyceum, won a silver medal, Murad Ismailov, the 11th grade student of physics, mathematics and informatics biased lyceum in Guba city, won a bronze medal, Ravan Najafli, the 11th grade student of “Ankara School” school-lyceum, and Adil Sattarov, the 11th grade student of a lyceum named after an academician Zarifa Aliyeva, were awarded the motivational prize of the Olympiad.

“QS Quacquarelli Symonds”, an organization presenting the world's leading research and ranking lists in higher education, has announced a ranking of the best universities in Europe. Compared to last year, there is progress in the positions of 7 out of 9 Azerbaijani universities represented in the mentioned list.  Sumgayit State University entered the "rating list of the best universities in Europe" for the first time.   The indicators "Academic reputation" and "Reputation among employers" of all higher education institutions of Azerbaijan presented in the rating have improved. Baku State University and Azerbaijan State University of Economics were included in the list of the 200 best universities in Europe according to the indicator "Academic Reputation", and Baku State University and Sumgait State University were included in the list of the 100 best universities in Europe according to the indicator "Teacher to Student Ratio".   The indicator "Employment results" is also one of the areas in which higher education institutions in Azerbaijan have achieved high results. Baku State University ranks first in the country in terms of "Employment of graduates" and Azerbaijan State University of Economics ranks first in the country in terms of "Reputation among employers".   Also, Baku State University has the highest index among the universities of Azerbaijan on the index "International Scientific Cooperation", which is used in assessing the scientific-research activities of higher education institutions. In its turn, Khazar University is among the 20 best universities in Europe in terms of "Number of citations per article" indicator. And, Azerbaijan State University of Economic has the highest position in the country on the indicator "Achievements in the field of sustainable development goals".   It should be noted that Azerbaijan is represented by the largest number of universities from the South Caucasus region in the "ranking-list of the best universities in Europe".

The delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Science and Education Hasan Hasanli is visiting Uzbekistan to participate in the "13th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan".   During the visit, Hasan Hasanly met with the Deputy Minister of Preschool and General Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sardor Rajabov Bakhtiyorovich, as well as with the Deputy Minister of Science, Higher Education, and Innovation, Shohrukh Daliyev Khojakbarovich.   The current situation and prospects of cooperation between the two countries in pre-school, general education, science, and higher education were discussed during the meeting.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the Garabagh University in Khankendi on July 5 to inspect the renovation work undertaken at the institution.   Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev informed the head of state about the renovations completed at the university.   The facade of the building was repainted, and historical elements were restored at the main entrance.   All the rooms will be equipped with modern furniture and equipment. Extensive landscaping transformed the university's surroundings, including the creation of a new park designed to meet contemporary standards.   About 1,120 students across 27 specialties are expected to enroll at the university for the 2024/2025 academic year. Additionally, SABAH groups will be established in 8 specialties at the university.   On November 28, 2023, President Ilham Aliyev signed an Order on the establishment of Garabagh University in the city of Khankendi.   https://president.az
