On April 7, a meeting with participants of 4th International Environmental Project Olympiad (INEPO EUROASIA) took place at the Education Ministry.

Having warmly welcomed participants, Education Minister, Misir Mardanov, has wished them good luck in the Olympiad. He stressed that the 4th International Environmental Project Olympiad supported bythe Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry, State Oil Company, Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, and conducted by CAG Educational Company. The minister noted the number of participants of this traditional Olympiad is increasing every year, and this year about 300 participants from 33 countries will take part in.  The Minister informed that 2010 years have been announcing the year of Ecology by the President Ilham Aliyev, and because of that the Olympiad has an important value. He thanked everyone who took part in the organization of the event. The Minister recommended participants to familiarize themselves with the history, national culture and the education sphere of Azerbaijan. The chairman of the board of CAG Educational Company, Anvar Ozeren, presented its thoughts about the Olympiad. At the end participants from Georgia, Malaysia and Turkey have expressed their satisfaction with the meeting.

On April 4th-12th, pupils’ team of Education Republican Sport Centre of the Education Ministry took part in the European Pupils Chess Championship in Thessalonica, Greece.

24 teams have taken participation in the championship. Our team took the first place, winning three gold, two silver medals and one bronze medal. Our chess players’ results: I PLACE 1 Khalafova Narmin - pupil of the Republican Child-Youth Specialized Chess School of Olympic Reserves (Under 16’s-17’s)  2. Piriverdiyev Agil – pupil of the Republican Child-Youth Specialized Chess School of Olympic Reserves (Under 14’s-15) 3. Bagirova Khatin - pupil of Child-Youth Chess School of Ujar district (Under 12’s-13’s) 5. Kazimova Narmin- pupil of Baku city Child-Youth Specialized Chess School No.1 of Olympic Reserves (Under 16’s-17’s) 6. Fataliyeva Ulviyya- pupil of Ganja city Child-Youth Specialized Chess School of Olympic Reserves (Under 14’s-15’s)  Deputy Director of the Education Republican Sport Centre, international chess arbiter, Ibrahim Mammadov, represented in the competition as an arbiter.

On April 13, Education Minister, Misir Mardanov, received a delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad of the Republic of Gambia, Ousman Jammeh.

Having expressed the satisfaction of seeing his guests at the Ministry of Education, Misir Mardanov, first, gave information about the education system of Azerbaijan and realizing works in this area. The Minister said that in the last 6 years have been built more than 2 thousand schools, constructed and repaired new university's corps by the initiative of President and Heydar Aliyev Foundation. He underlined those achievements in the education system as a consequence of successful policy of national leader Heydar Aliyev and its worthy follower, President Ilham Aliyev.  Misir Mardanov also mentioned problems facing by Azerbaijan; he gave information on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, as well as Azerbaijanis, who have become internally displaced persons, and destruction of educational institutions on the occupied territories. Having noted events realizing in the field of providing educational institutions with ICT support, the Minister informed that more than 1000 schools are connected to the Internet. Having spoken about universities operating in the country, reforms that aim to integrate into the world education system and participating in the Bologna process, as well as other steps in this direction, Misir Mardanov, stressed that more than 10 000 Azerbaijani students study in the world famous universities, and about 7 thousands of international students study at the country universities. The Minister also stressed that in the framework of the State Program on education of Azerbaijani youth in the foreign countries in 2007-2015, young people of Azerbaijan are studying in different specialties of the world universities. Having noted that during the Soviet period Azerbaijan had communications with most world universities, and experts from different countries use to work here, the Minister, underlined that creating relations in the field of education between Azerbaijan and Gambia would help to make two people closer, and obtain new achievements in the educational and scientific fields.  Having expressed gratitude for the warm reception, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad of the Republic of Gambia Ousman Jammeh stressed its satisfaction with the visit to Azerbaijan. O. Jammeh underlined the importance of creating relations in the filed of education between two countries and talked about works carried out by his country in this field during the last years. Having spoken about creating collaboration in the education field, the guest underlined that Gambian youth interested in studying at Azerbaijani universities, especially at Azerbaijan State Oil Academy and National Aviation Academy. O. Jammeh expressed belief about a fruitful collaboration in the education field of two countries. At the end Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology of the Gambia Republic talked about the education system of Gambia, new universities and other issues. Sabir Agabeyov, the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Gambia, attended the meeting as well.

On April 14, Education Minister, Misir Mardanov, met with a delegation led by the rector of Eastern Mediterranean University of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Abdulla Oztoprak.

On April 14, Education Minister, Misir Mardanov, met with a delegation led by the rector of Eastern Mediterranean University of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Abdulla Oztoprak. Having expressed his satisfaction at seeing the guests in Azerbaijan, the Minister talked about broadening collaboration between the two countries in the education field. He stressed the importance of creating relations between Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and Azerbaijan education institutions, holding joint scientific conferences, and organizing trips for Azerbaijan education delegation to Northern Cyprus. In his turn, the rector of EMU, Abdulla Oztorpak, gave information about the EMU and stressed that 37 students from Azerbaijan are studying, as well as about 10 teachers are working there on different specialities. Afterwards the guest talked about the history of EMU, existing specialities, and stated that the development of bilateral collaboration has particular importance. At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on creating relations between colleges and some universities operating in the country, as well as touched upon the issue of Azerbaijani students’ study at EMU and realizing some events in these directions.   

On April 15, Education Minister, Misir Mardanov met with the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Italy to Azerbaijan, Mario Baldi.

Having expressed gratitude for the warm reception, Mr. M. Baldi, expressed its satisfaction with working in Azerbaijan as an ambassador. Noting the high level collaboration existing between Azerbaijan and Italy, the ambassador touched issues relating to the development of educational relations between two countries. Education Minister, Misir Mardanov, wished the ambassador success in his new job. Having noted works carried out in the direction of broadening relations between Azerbaijan and Italy in the last years, the Minister underlined that cooperation in the education field organized more fruitfully. The Minister also stressed that in the framework of the State Program on education of Azerbaijani youth in the foreign countries in 2007-2015, 4 Azerbaijani students are studying in Italy. Having noted Italy is being one of the ancient and big countries of Europe, Misir Mardanov, made suggestions on creating relations in the field of craft and art education. The Minister suggested realizing Twin schools project between educational institutions of two countries, as well as teaching Italian as a foreign language in the number of schools. He hoped that during the new ambassador’s activity will be made some important steps in order to strengthen educational relations. Bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Italy, the Azerbaijan education delegation’s trip to Italy in autumn this year, as well as Azerbaijani students’ study in this country, and other issues had been discussed at the meeting.

The final stage of an essay contest, dedicated to the 87th birthday anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev, among pupils took place in secondary school named after academician Zarifa Aliyeva, on April 20.

Education Minister, Misir Mardanov, Deputy chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party, Ali Ahmedov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation, Settar Mehdiyev took part in the opening ceremony of the contest. Education Minister, Misir Mardanov noted the essay contest dedicated to the birthday anniversary of the national leader Heydar Aliyev has become a tradition. Having underlined the importance of interest and enthusiasm showing by pupils to the contest, the Minister, informed that nearly half a million pupils took part in the first stage of competition, and 97 of them have passed to the republican stage. According to the Minister, pupils from separate districts and cities, as well as Baku, lyceums and gymnasiums under Education Ministry and universities, private secondary schools and vocational lyceums participated in the contest. Misir Mardanov informed that participants have been given tree hours to write the essay, and competition winners will identify after essays have been checked by the experts within a few days. He stressed that the contest will be finished on the eve of the 87th birthday of national leader Heydar Aliyev, and in the solemn ceremony in Gulustan Palace, which will be held on that occasion, prizes and presents will be handed over to the winners, as well as best work's collection will be published. At the end, the Minister wished good luck to the participants. Afterwards, has been announced the theme of the republican stage and pupils began to write the essay on the theme of “Thinking of great leader Heydar Aliyev.”

On April 21, Education Minister, Misir Mardanov, met with a delegation led by a rector of Okan University of the Republic of Turkey, Sadik Kirbas.

Having warmly welcomed its guests, the Minister noted the relationships existing between Azerbaijan and Turkey, development of bilateral relations and creation of broad cooperation in the education field. He has underlined the importance of student exchange, in the frame of relations, and emphasized the study of Azerbaijani students in Turkey, as well as Turkish students in Azerbaijan. The rector of Okan University has expressed gratitude for the warm reception. He talked about the development of bilateral education relationship, as well as the realization of corresponding works in this field. The guest gave information about the Okan University as well. Afterwards, guests noted that they have visited some lyceums, talked about their conditions and appreciated deeply the teachers’ activity. Creation of the relations between universities, student and teacher exchange, and other issues have been discussed at the meeting. Hulusi Kilic, the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Azerbaijan, and Education Counsellor of the Embassy, Halis Koyuncuoglu, have attended the meeting.

On April 21, a ceremony of introduction of the Okan University, one of the youngest universities of Turkey, took place at the Elite Gymnasium named after I. Afandiyev.

Education Minister, Misir Mardanov, Ambassador Hulusi Kilic, a delegation of the mentioned university, directors, teachers and senior pupils of lyceums and gymnasiums under the Education Ministry took part in the ceremony. The event was held by the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Azerbaijan, and support of the Ministry of Education. Speaking at the event Misir Maradanov, has welcomed Turkish delegation and other participants, and noted the rector of the Okan University, which was founded 7 years ago, and the delegation led by him have visited our country. Having underlined the main goal of the visit is strengthening relations in the education sphere, the minister added the guests within two days of the visit to Azerbaijan had been intimately acquainted with several schools of Baku, and satisfied with the impression of them. Having noted the relationship between Azerbaijan and Turkey, the Minister, underlined the increase of cooperation in the field of education, as well as nearly five thousand students from Azerbaijan studying at Turkish universities.  Hulusi Kilic, the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Azerbaijan, expressed gratitude to the minister, Misir Mardanov for the support that he has made for the organization of the event. The ambassador noted the increasing role of the education in the world, and that both countries pay great attention to the development of this area. Having delivered a speech at the event the rector of Okan University, Sadik Kirbas, first, expressed gratitude for hospitality. He noted it is its second visit to Azerbaijan , and gave information about the Okan University. According to him at five faculties of the university are studying different specialties in Turkish and English languages. He added that in the 2009/10 academic year, over five thousand students studying at the university. Short films about Istanbul and Okan University had been demonstrated at the event. Afterwards Hulya Arslan, Deputy Dean of the Literature faculty of the Okan University, gave a broad introduction to the university. At the end Education Minister, Misir Mardanov and Sadik Kirbas, answered to pupils ‘questions.

On April 21 at the school No.60 of Yasamal district, by the joint organization of the Education Ministry, Baku city Education Department and Press Council took place a round table on the theme of “Educational institutions and media; mutual relations.”

Education Minister, Misir Mardanov, chief of the Baku city Education Department, Naila Rzaguliyeva, chairman of the Press Council, Aflatun Amashov, board members of the Council, and some school directors took part in the event. First, the guests have been acquainted with school No.60, and took part in lessons with new teaching methods. Afterwards, discussions on the frame of the theme of mutual relations between educational institutions and media have been held. The chief of International and Public Relations Department of the Baku city Education Department, Zamina Aligizi, noted that their department has an intimate collaboration with media, and spoke about realizing works in this filed, as well as existing problems. Having noted the importance of broadening relations between educational institutions and media, the chairman of Press Council, Aflatun Amashov, stressed that education journalists should help to solve problems in this field. Moreover, he emphasized that the Press Council, cooperates with the Education Ministry, and Baku city Education Department. Afterwards, he advised to the media editors and journalists to give a special importance to the education fields as one important strategic directions of the society. Having highly appreciated works carrying out in the education area, A. Amashov stressed that society should be informed in this direction continuously. Having paid attention to the importance of this topic, the Education Minister, Misir Mardanov, noted that the society should be correctly informed about educational innovations. The Minister has emphasized, that cooperation with media is a push for positive results of carried out reforms in the field of education. The Minister,  has noted the importance of holding such meetings continuously and has come forth with a trip of journalists and newspaper ’editors to rural schools, and familiarize with educational conditions closer. The chief editor of the “Azerbaijan” newspaper, member of the Press Council, Bakhtiyar Sadigov gave broad information on the current situation of the journalism. He said that it is advisable for state institutions and journalists to fight together against media which is on the blacklist of the Press Council. Afterwards, he has invited intellectuals and head of educational institutions to increased activity and intimate cooperation, as well as noted that the Azerbaijan newspaper pays attention to the education sector and these works will be continued.  Vugar Safarli, Executive Director of the Fund of State Support for the Development of Mass Media under the President of Azerbaijan in its speech talked about works, which is jointly carried out with media. He also emphasized that the programs and projects approved by the fund are giving a special importance to the education area, and stressed that works at these directions will be strengthened. Afterwards, Chief Editor of “Iki sahil” newspaper, head of the Press Council's commission on prevention of “racketeering journalism”, Vugar Rahimzade, noted that its newspaper and the Press Council are paying great attention to the educational field. Having spoken at the round table the director of Public Relations Department of the Education Ministry, Bayram Huseynzade, talked about relations between the ministry and media, and gave suggestions and opinions on making bilateral relations better. The school directors spoke about the publishing of materials in some newspapers, where the reputation of teachers is being damaged, as well as its influence on the public. At the end of the event have been held discussions on increasing classification of the journalists writing about education, organizing of a joint contest of the Education Ministry, the Fund of State Support for Mass Media and the Press Council, as well as has been established a Working Group to prepare an action plan. At the event, the Press Council presented to participants the blacklist with the name of 94 newspapers, which have been announced “racketeering press.”

On April 22, the Pedagogical Faculty of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University celebrated the 50th anniversary on its founding.

First, university’s staff, and guests visited the Alley of Honours to lay a wreath at the tomb of Azerbaijan’s national leader Heydar Aliyev, and they also put flowers at the grave of the prominent ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva. The Education Minister, Misir Mardanov, chief of the Baku city Education Department, Naila Rzaguliyeva, the officials of the Council of Higher Education of the Republic of Turkey, associates of the University Hacettepe, members of Parliament, famous scientists and teachers of the country, heads of some state and non-state university institutions, as well as teachers and students of university took part in the event. Having delivered his address, the rector of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Yusif Mammadov expressed the pleasure of seeing guests in the university. He paid tribute to the university for holding 90 years of the honourable way of training teachers in the field of education, and emphasized the special role and place of the Pedagogical Faculty among other existing faculties. Y.Mammadov noticed that the faculty has been established in 1958 under the name of ‘Pedagogy and Methods of Primary Education’, and nearly 15 thousands students have graduated during the 50 years. He gave detailed information on events carried out in the last years for the education development, applied innovations, and international relations of the university. Afterwards, Minister of Education Misir Mardanov delivered a speech. Having noted the education and science development in the country, the minister underlined that the national leader Heydar Aliyev always highly appreciated teaching staff, and that his worthy follower, President Ilham Aliyev also pays a great attention to the education and science spheres of Azerbaijan. Noting teachers always being the main persons and influential people in the education, the Minister stressed that they are always accepting by society with respect. The minister has positively estimated the fruitful activity of Pedagogical Faculty. He awarded some staffs of the faculty with a breast badge of ‘Advanced educator of the Azerbaijan Republic’ and Certificates of honour. At the end Mr. Mardanov has congratulated university management, teachers and students of Pedagogical Faculty on the anniversary, wished them every success in the future activity.  The Dean of Pedagogical Faculty, Farruh Rustamov delivered a speech on the theme of ’50 years of honour.’ In its speech, he gave broad information on the historical way of the university, and noted its achievements. The dean of Pedagogical Faculty of the University Hacettepe, Buket Akkojunlu, the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Azerbaijan, Mammadbagir Bahrami, the director of Institute of Oriental Studies of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Govhar Bakhshaliyeva congratulated staff of the Pedagogical Faculty, and wished them success.  The event has proceeded with the musical composition prepared by students of faculty.
