The Minister of Education received Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Azerbaijan

On December 10, Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education, received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Azerbaijan Kim Chang Gyu. During the meeting, they discussed the issues of cooperation in the field of education and implementation of cooperation projects in the fields of higher education and initial vocational education. Mikayil Jabbarov underlined the importance of studying the experience of the Republic of Korea for our country and the necessity of further development of cooperation in the field of education.

The meeting on secondary specialized education

The meeting dedicated to the activities of secondary specialized education institutions was held on December 8. The meeting, held at Baku Technical College, was attended by heads of secondary specialized education institutions operating under the Ministry of Education. During the meeting, they discussed the requirements arising from the education reforms implemented in the country, the role of educational institutions in the formation of the younger generation, the major tasks facing secondary specialized educational institutions in modern times. Firstly, they held a minute of silence to honor the memory of oil-field workers who died in the accident took place in "Gunashli" field. Firudin Gurbanov, Deputy Minister of Education, welcomed the participants of the meeting and underlined the importance of taking appropriate measures in order to raise the activities of colleges to a new level in terms of quality. F.Gurbanov gave instructions on strengthening the supervision of end-of-term exams to the heads of educational institutions. Deputy Minister noted that education institutions should always take into account the processes taking place in society, appropriate measures should be taken to prevent cases of avoiding class participation, educational process should be organized at the level of modern requirements. F.Gurbanov also highlighted shortcomings and lower quality indicators observed in the activities of colleges. Then, heads of secondary specialized educational institutions took the floor at the meeting.

Academician taught a lesson at secondary school

On December 10, Akif Azizov, academician, Director of Institute of Polymer Materials of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, taught the first exemplary lesson at the Technical and Humanitarian Lyceum of Baku. It should be noted that the exemplary lessons are organized in accordance with the initiative associated with the target-oriented program entitled "From Science to Education" and put forward by Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education, at the ceremony dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). In accordance with the agreement reached between the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan Republic and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), these lessons will be taught by prominent scientists working at ANAS. 26 general education institutions of the capital have been selected in order to teach exemplary lessons. Subject laboratories are operating in 17 of them and it will create opportunity for teaching object lessons. The other four are education institutions which were renovated in 2015. 5 general education institutions have been selected in order to teach history-oriented and humanities-oriented, exemplary lessons. Academician A.Azizov taught 9th grade students an exemplary chemistry lesson in the chemistry laboratory of the Technical and Humanitarian Lyceum and answered their questions. Emphasizing the importance of increasing schoolchildren's interest in science, academician A.Azizov said that the integration of science and education created an opportunity for the training of personnel with advanced scientific knowledge. Academician noted that special steps were taken to improve the quality of education in the country with the power of science. He also underlined the importance of the target-oriented program entitled "From Science to Education" in this regard. A.Azizov spoke about the role of the chemical industry in the national economy and emphasized that this field is a promising direction throughout the world. Noting that Azerbaijan is famous as the oil country in the entire world, A.Azizov mentioned that petrochemical industry had developed rapidly in recent years in our country and the process of establishing new and modern production areas was widespread. Noting that the Nobel Prize, which is awarded for valuable scientific studies, inventions, services to the development of culture and society, will be presented to the recipients within the framework of the Nobel Week held in Stockholm on December 10, the academician provided pupils with detailed information about chemists, who received this prize. The exemplary lesson was attended by officials of the Ministry of Education and Baku City Education Department, education experts and mass media representatives.

The historical achievement of Azerbaijani schoolchildren

Azerbaijani schoolchildren achieved the greatest success at the international Olympiads in the last eleven years. So, Azerbaijani schoolchildren won 2 silver and 3 bronze medals at the 12th International Junior Science Olympiad (İJSO) held in Daegu, South Korea, on December 2-10, 2015. At this Olympiad, held with the participation of 43 countries, our country was among those countries that achieved successful results. Huseyn Babayev, 10th grade student of natural science-oriented and humanities-oriented school-lyceum No.18 in Shirvan city, and Jafar Isbarov, 10th grade student of humanities-oriented school-lyceum No.4 in Lankaran city, won a silver medal, Turan Badalli and Emin Gayibov, 10th grade students of experimental pilot classes of lyceum named after academician Zarifa Aliyeva in Baku, and Turan Mammadli, 10th grade student of humanities-oriented school-lyceum No.4 in Lankaran city, won a bronze medal. Pupils demonstrated their theoretical and practical knowledge at the 12th International Science Olympiad in physics, chemistry and biology. The schoolchildren, representing our country at this Olympiad, won 1 bronze medal in 2004, 2 bronze medals in 2005, 3 bronze medals in 2007, 3 bronze medals in 2008, 1 silver medal and 2 bronze medals in 2009, 2 bronze medals in 2010, 1 silver medal and 2 bronze medals in 2011, 4 bronze medals in 2012, 1 bronze medal in 2013, 1 bronze medal in 2014. It should be noted that this year, according to the results of the International Mathematical Olympiad, Azerbaijan was among the top 50 countries. The bronze medals, won after many years at the International Biology Olympiad and the Asian Physics Olympiad, show that all work has been carried out correctly in this direction. Azerbaijani pupils won 2 bronze medals at the International Chemistry Olympiad held in Baku.

Exemplary lessons will begin in general education institutions of Baku starting from December 10. The exemplary lessons are organized in accordance with the initiative associated with the target-oriented program entitled "From Science to Education" and put forward by Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education, at the ceremony dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). Lessons, which will be taught on scientific and scientific-popular topics, serve the purposes of expanding relations between science and education, increasing schoolchildren's interest in science and bringing up followers of well-known scientists. The main objective of the project is to encourage pupils to work on issues of scientific research and to shape their worldviews in the right direction.

Diagnostic evaluation of teachers continues

On December 9, the diagnostic evaluation of knowledge and skills of teachers working at general educational institutions of Hajigabul, Sabirabad, Imishli, Saatli regions and Shirvan city began in Shirvan city. More than 6500 teachers will participate in the examinations held at Shirvan Olympic Sports Complex. Diagnostic assessment is carried out on the basis of software through computers. During the evaluation process, 40 test questions in the specialty according to general education program, 20 test questions in methods and learning strategies are submitted to participants. According to the relevant rules, each correct answer is estimated by 1 point. The knowledge and skills of the teachers, who correctly answered at least 10 percent of test questions in each section, are considered diagnostically evaluated. The diagnostic evaluation, held in Shirvan city on December 9-13, will be attended by teachers, who work under labor agreement in secondary schools, included in the system of the Ministry of Education, as their principal place of work, as well as resource teachers and heads of pre-conscription military training of youth. It should be noted that after completion of the examinations, teachers will be able to get acquainted with the results of the diagnostic evaluation.

The presentation of "School communities" project was held

On December 7, the presentation of the pilot project for the establishment of school communities was held at the secondary school No. 60 in Baku. It was noted that the school communities, consisting of the union of pupils, parents and teachers, were established in order to make school life better. The school community operating under the motto "We study, have a rest and develop together" involves pupils, parents and heads of class. The school community is headed by the chairman of the community and the committees on the main areas of activity. Within the frameworks of the pilot project, the support was provided for the establishment of classroom and school communities in three classes of each of 54 schools. To this end, the psychologist of project provided assistance for holding the first joint meetings of parents, teachers and children in every school. During the preparation period, the views of parents were studied and taken into account in schools where the pilot project was being implemented. It was noted that the social network of school communities was established and community members could create virtual communication and share their experiences through the website (www.community.az). The initial positive results have already been recorded in schools where the communities have been established. So, there are positive changes in class attendance in schools as a result of the activities of communities. Parents are trying to actively participate in school life. It should be noted that the formula for a successful school is closely related to a joint participation of parents, pupils and teachers in school life. If one of the parties remains outside the process, it will not allow us to obtain desired results. Then the participants were informed about the work done by the school community established at secondary school No. 60. It should be noted that school communities have been established in 54 general education institutions of the country since September 2015 within the framework of the pilot project implemented by the Ministry of Education. At the stage before the project implementation, necessary organizational measures have been taken by the company “Allianz Consult”, as well as training and seminars have been organized for parents and teachers.

New school was put into operation in Lerik

The opening ceremony of Anbu village secondary school was held in Lerik region. The event was attended by officials of the Ministry of Education and the Executive Power of Lerik region, as well as schoolchildren and representatives of rural community. At the opening ceremony it was noted that the construction of this educational institution for 180 pupils began in September 2014. The school, built on the basis of a common standard by the Ministry of Education, consists of 12 classrooms, 2 laboratories, a computer room, an assembly hall and a gym. Fire water tanks and drinking water tanks, also boiler house were established on the territory of school. The schoolyard was improved and landscaped. In his speech, Aydin Ahmadov, Head of Preschool and General Education Department of the Ministry of Education, underlined that new schools were built and old school buildings were renovated in all regions of the country. The department chief said that all new schools were built in accordance with the requirements of modern education system.

"The best teacher" competition continues

600 teachers have applied to the Organizing Committee for participation in the competition held in 2015. The Organizing Committee has been established under the leadership of Firudin Gurbanov, Deputy Minister of Education, in order to ensure collective decision-making related to the holding of competition and the regulation of this process. The heads of relevant departments of the Ministry are represented in the Organizing Committee. The documents, submitted at the first stage of the competition, have been examined and as a result, 143 teachers have been admitted to the next stage of the competition. The teachers, gained the right to participate in the second stage of “The Best Teacher” competition, have conducted trial and sample lessons in 50 schools in Baku. The Commission, participating in lessons, has evaluated each teacher's teaching skills on the basis of a 10-point grading scale. During the third stage, these teachers give a presentation in front of the Organizing Committee. This presentation is evaluated on the basis of a 10-point grading scale. In the end, scores will be collected for all stages and 95 teachers, scored the most points, will have become the winners of the competition. A similar process is carried out in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. 5 best teachers, selected in Nakhchivan, will be added to the list of winners and thus, the next 100 teachers will be declared the winners of "The best teacher" competition in the country in 2015.  

Diagnostic evaluation of teachers of Masalli and Jalilabad has been completed

The diagnostic evaluation of teachers working at general educational institutions of Masalli and Jalilabad regions was held on December 4-6, 2015. More than 5000 teachers according to 19 general education subjects attended the diagnostic evaluation held at Masalli Olympic Sports Complex. The diagnostic evaluation was also attended by 99.17% of teachers who were invited to the examination. Immediately after the examinations were over, the results of the diagnostic evaluation were announced. The teachers may enter their Personal Pages on the official website (www.dq.edu.az) of the Ministry of Education created in connection with the diagnostic evaluation of knowledge and skills of teachers and may get acquainted with results. During the evaluation process, 40 test questions in the specialty according to general education program, 20 test questions in methods and learning strategies were submitted to participants.
