Education is the future of the nation!
On April 13, Education Minister, Misir Mardanov, received a delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad of the Republic of Gambia, Ousman Jammeh.
Having expressed the satisfaction of seeing his guests at the Ministry of Education, Misir Mardanov, first, gave information about the education system of Azerbaijan and realizing works in this area. The Minister said that in the last 6 years have been built more than 2 thousand schools, constructed and repaired new university's corps by the initiative of President and Heydar Aliyev Foundation. He underlined those achievements in the education system as a consequence of successful policy of national leader Heydar Aliyev and its worthy follower, President Ilham Aliyev. Misir Mardanov also mentioned problems facing by Azerbaijan; he gave information on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, as well as Azerbaijanis, who have become internally displaced persons, and destruction of educational institutions on the occupied territories. Having noted events realizing in the field of providing educational institutions with ICT support, the Minister informed that more than 1000 schools are connected to the Internet.
Having spoken about universities operating in the country, reforms that aim to integrate into the world education system and participating in the Bologna process, as well as other steps in this direction, Misir Mardanov, stressed that more than 10 000 Azerbaijani students study in the world famous universities, and about 7 thousands of international students study at the country universities. The Minister also stressed that in the framework of the State Program on education of Azerbaijani youth in the foreign countries in 2007-2015, young people of Azerbaijan are studying in different specialties of the world universities.
Having noted that during the Soviet period Azerbaijan had communications with most world universities, and experts from different countries use to work here, the Minister, underlined that creating relations in the field of education between Azerbaijan and Gambia would help to make two people closer, and obtain new achievements in the educational and scientific fields.
Having expressed gratitude for the warm reception, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad of the Republic of Gambia Ousman Jammeh stressed its satisfaction with the visit to Azerbaijan. O. Jammeh underlined the importance of creating relations in the filed of education between two countries and talked about works carried out by his country in this field during the last years. Having spoken about creating collaboration in the education field, the guest underlined that Gambian youth interested in studying at Azerbaijani universities, especially at Azerbaijan State Oil Academy and National Aviation Academy. O. Jammeh expressed belief about a fruitful collaboration in the education field of two countries.
At the end Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology of the Gambia Republic talked about the education system of Gambia, new universities and other issues.
Sabir Agabeyov, the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Gambia, attended the meeting as well.
