Sabail District Basketball Championship was held

Sabail District Basketball Championship was held within the frameworks of the program "Olympic Movement". The program "Olympic Movement" is jointly carried out by the International Olympic Committee and the "Coca-Cola" company - the Worldwide Partner of the Olympic Games, the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The main objective of the program is to continue the social and sporting legacy of Baku 2015 First European Games. The program is also intended for involving schoolchildren in school and city competitions to be held in track and field athletics, cycling, basketball (3x3), and badminton, as well as for instilling a healthy and active lifestyle, the Olympic values in pupils. Competitions were held in secondary school No.189-190 in Baku. The district championship was attended by 14 out of 16 teams. In the competition, held in a tense struggle, the team of the educational complex no. 132-134 subordinated to the Ministry of Education won the first place, the team of Technical-Humanitarian Lyceum No.2 named after H.Mahmudbayov won the second place, the team of secondary school No. 91 of Baku city won the third place and they got the right to take part in the final stage. Diplomas were presented to the winners and the participants by the organizers.

The presentation of the project

The presentation of the project “Skills for business world” was held on December 15. The project is jointly carried out by the Ministry of Education, the British Council and "Azercell Telecom" LLC in the field of initial vocational and specialized education. The main objective of the project is to contribute to the development of initial vocational and specialized education and training in the country, to expand employment opportunities and to organize work experience program. The representatives of the Ministry of Education, the British Council, "Azercell Telecom" LLC and pilot institutions of initial vocational and specialized education attended the presentation of the project. The first training on the project is held at Baku Professional Lyceum No.5. The training is attended by 36 teachers teaching ICT and telecommunications in initial vocational and specialized educational institutions in Baku. During the training, the participants will be able to gain knowledge and skills about effective learning models for initial vocational and specialized education, methods and classroom management. Lessons will be continued until December 17 by a specialist invited from the United Kingdom. The part, intended for pupils, will be implemented by the Organization on Achievements of Azerbaijani Youth. To this end, the skills of more than 500 pupils studying ICT and telecommunications were examined by the Organization and 120 pupils were given a chance to participate in the training. During the project, these pupils will acquire skills for finding work and career opportunities, and will gain production experience in the field of ICT and telecommunications. The trainings for pupils will begin since January 2016.

The first forum of Azerbaijani student volunteers

The first forum of Azerbaijani student volunteers was held on December 14. The Forum began with listening to the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Then, the video, entitled "Azerbaijani Volunteers: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" about volunteer activities among students, was shown. The Forum, held with the support of the Ministry of Education, was attended by Fatma Abdullazadeh, head of the Department of Humanitarian Policy Issues of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education, Azad Rahimov, Minister of Youth and Sports, MPs, rectors of higher education institutions, representatives of international organizations, NGO leaders, student volunteers and media representatives. Welcoming the participants of the forum, Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education, said that this event was of great historical importance. The Minister of Education noted that obligations arising from youth policy founded by national leader Heydar Aliyev were one of the priorities for the activities of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev. Noting that the President highly appreciates volunteer activities of students in the international events held in Azerbaijan, Minister mentioned that the head of state paid special importance to these issues during a meeting with volunteers. As it was noted by Mr. President, "Volunteers one again showed that our country has a great potential and human capital... Indeed, our future is in safe hands". Touching upon the special role of student volunteers in the process of holding the Baku 2015 First European Games at a high level, Minister of Education noted that the thoughts of Mehriban Aliyeva, First Lady of Azerbaijan, Chairperson of the First European Games Organizing Committee, generated enthusiasm in student volunteers. The Minister also underlined that the reforms, implemented in the field of higher education, the favorable environment, created for students, provided new opportunities for learners. It is scheduled to further expand the innovative environment in higher education institutions in the near future within the framework of international projects. Noting that it is necessary to respond adequately to new challenges, the Minister highly appreciated the creation of student-volunteer program “BIR” in order to make more effective use of power and knowledge of students and to successfully implement the strategic objectives. Fatma Abdullazadeh, head of the Department of Humanitarian Policy Issues of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, gave recommendations to student volunteers and wished success to the forum. Noting that volunteers serve as an example for other young people by taking an active part in social and cultural life of our country and higher education institutions where they study, the head of the Department emphasized the importance of working hard to be ready for new challenges. In their speeches, Azad Rahimov, Minister of Youth and Sports, Nato Alkazashvili, Deputy Resident Coordinator of the United Nations, and student volunteers spoke about the importance of the forum and noted that the volunteer movement had a positive impact on the expansion of activeness of citizens in the society. After the speeches were delivered, the presentation of student-volunteer program “BIR” was held. During the presentation, the participants were informed in detail about the purpose, directions and opportunities of the program. It should be noted that the program covers 10 higher education institutions in Baku, Sumgait and Ganja as a pilot project. Under the program, students will be involved in volunteer activities and relevant events, as well as the project, which includes 6 different directions (Learn, Teach, Live, Keep alive, Discover and Enjoy) according to "real student life" model, will be submitted to them. Young people can apply through www.facebook.com/birkonullu to join the program. The event ended with the singing of Azerbaijan`s famous retro song “Student” by the students.

The winners of the competition were awarded

The ceremony of awarding the winners of the fifth Republican contest "Emergency situations through the eyes of children" and the first International Children`s Creativity Competition was held on December 14. The purpose of the competition is to teach children the basics of safe lifestyle, to reveal talented children, to provide support for them, to instill patriotism in today's younger generation, to draw public attention to the problems that may arise in case of emergency. The competition, held under joint agreement between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, was dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The award ceremony, organized at the Academy of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The competition, attended by pupils of secondary and boarding schools of all cities and regions of the Republic, was held in school-based, regional and Republican stages in the categories of painting, poster, handicraft wares, fire and rescue equipment model, soft toys. 503 paintings, 305 posters, 197 handicrafts, 191 fire and rescue equipment models, and 167 soft toys were submitted to the Organizing Committee on the results of the regional and city competitions. In addition, a total of 37 paintings and 5 posters were submitted to the first International Children`s Creativity Competition from Russia, Turkey, Belarus, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Hungary and Moldova. The works, submitted to the competition, were evaluated by the Organizing Committee and the winners were determined. A total of 166 winners were determined in the competition. 31 of them won the first place, 45 of them won the second place, 55 of them won the third place and 35 of them were awarded for their active participation. The winners of the competition were awarded with diplomas and valuable prizes.

On December 14, Aziz Jamil oglu Aliyev, appointed as the Rector of Baku branch of the First Moscow State Medical University named after I. M. Sechenov by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was introduced to the staff of the educational institution.

The event was attended by Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education, Andrei Svistunov, the first Vice Rector of the First Moscow State Medical University named after I. M. Sechenov, teaching staff of the educational institution and students. The Minister of Education drew participants' attention to the relevant Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Appointment of Aziz Aliyev as the Rector of Baku branch of the First Moscow State Medical University named after I. M. Sechenov and wished success to the new rector in his future activities. Andrei Svistunov, the first Vice Rector of the First Moscow State Medical University named after I. M. Sechenov, congratulated Aziz Aliyev on the occasion of his appointment as Rector of Baku branch of the university and wished him success in his future activities. Aziz Aliyev, Rector of Baku branch of the First Moscow State Medical University named after I. M. Sechenov, expressed his gratitude to the President for the confidence, and said that he would do his best to fulfill his duties at the highest level. Aziz Jamil oglu Aliyev entered the Preventive-Treatment Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Medical University in 1991 and continued his education at New York University in the United States in 1992-1999. In 1999-2002, he studied at residency of Pittsburgh Medical University in the United States. Defending a thesis in this country, he received the title of Candidate of Medical Science in 2003 and earned the degree of Doctor of Medical Science in 2008.

The winners of the Olympiad have returned to their homeland

Azerbaijani schoolchildren, who won 2 silver and 3 bronze medals at the 12th International Junior Science Olympiad (İJSO) held in Daegu, South Korea, on December 2-10, 2015, returned to their homeland. The winners were greeted by employees of the Ministry of Education, their teachers and classmates, as well as media representatives at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport. Schoolchildren noted that their main goal was to return to their homeland with medals and in the end, they were able to achieve their target goal, although there were strong competitors. Azerbaijani schoolchildren demonstrated their theoretical and practical knowledge at the 12th International Science Olympiad in physics, chemistry and biology. Representing our country at the Olympiad held with the participation of 43 countries, Huseyn Babayev, 10th grade student of natural science-oriented and humanities-oriented school-lyceum No.18 in Shirvan city, and Jafar Isbarov, 10th grade student of humanities-oriented school-lyceum No.4 in Lankaran city, won a silver medal, Turan Badalli and Emin Gayibov, 10th grade students of experimental pilot classes of lyceum named after academician Zarifa Aliyeva in Baku, and Turan Mammadli, 10th grade student of humanities-oriented school-lyceum No.4 in Lankaran city, won a bronze medal. It should be noted that Azerbaijani schoolchildren achieved the greatest success at the international Olympiads in the last eleven years. This year, according to the results of the International Mathematical Olympiad, Azerbaijan was among the top 50 countries.

Diagnostic evaluation held for teachers in Shirvan city has been completed

On December 9-13, 2015, the diagnostic evaluation of teachers working at general educational institutions of Shirvan city, Hajigabul, Imishli, Saatli and Sabirabad regions was held. More than 6500 teachers according to 19 general education subjects attended the diagnostic evaluation held at Shirvan Olympic Sports Complex. The diagnostic evaluation was also attended by 98.4% of teachers who were invited to the examination. Immediately after the examinations were over, the results of the diagnostic evaluation were announced. The teachers may enter their Personal Pages on the official website (www.dq.edu.az) of the Ministry of Education created in connection with the diagnostic evaluation of knowledge and skills of teachers and may get acquainted with results. During the evaluation process, 40 test questions in the specialty according to general education program, 20 test questions in methods and learning strategies were submitted to participants. According to the relevant rules, each correct answer is estimated by 1 point. The knowledge and skills of the teachers, who correctly answered at least 10 percent of test questions in each section, are considered diagnostically evaluated. It should be noted that the diagnostic evaluation of knowledge and skills of teachers working at general educational institutions of Sumgait city, Absheron and Gubadly regions will be held on December 16-20. About 9000 teachers are expected to participate in examinations to be held at Sumgait Olympic Sports Complex.

President Ilham Aliyev was conferred Honorary Professorship in History by Renmin University of China

President Ilham Aliyev has been conferred a diploma of Honorary Professor of History by Renmin University of China. Prior to the ceremony the head of state met with rector of the university Liu Wei. The sides hailed the development of relations between the two countries in a number of fields, particularly in political, economic and cultural ones. They stressed the importance of cooperation in the field of education, particularly expansion of ties between universities, and student exchange. The sides noted that President Ilham Aliyev's state visit to China would contribute to the development of cooperation between the two countries in a number of areas, including education. The sides then exchanged keepsakes. In her opening remarks at the ceremony, vice-rector of Renmin University of China Yi Zhihong hailed the meeting with the Azerbaijani President as a remarkable event in the university`s life. Rector Liu Wei once again welcomed President Ilham Aliyev. He briefed the participants on the history and culture of Azerbaijan, and also highlighted the history of bilateral relations between the two countries. The rector said he was honored to present the diploma of Honorary Professor of History to the Azerbaijani President. Vice-rector Yi Zhihong then informed the participants about the life and activities of President Ilham Aliyev. Then the diploma of Honorary Professor of History of Renmin University of China was presented to the head of state. President Ilham Aliyev made a speech at the ceremony.   www.president.az

Educational institutions continue to join the Azerbaijan Educational Network

55 educational institutions, covering Baku, Kazakh, Shirvan, Ismayilli, Samukh, Agstafa, Barda, Goygol and Lankaran, have joined the Azerbaijan Educational Network (AEN) during the months of October and November, 2015. It should be noted that all works are carried out in accordance with the "Action Plan" related to the implementation of the “National Strategy for the Development of Education in the Republic of Azerbaijan". 2051 educational institutions have joined the Azerbaijan Educational Network (AEN) so far. The educational institutions, that joined the Network, have been provided with high-speed Internet and have gained the opportunity to establish high-quality communication with one another and other agencies of the Ministry of Education within the Network.  The Azerbaijan Educational Network (AEN) paves the way for the creation of a more effective learning process in the country and ensures the transfer of the positive experience in education, regardless of distance. The teachers and pupils of schools in remote areas have the opportunity to increase their knowledge by using electronic resources through the AEN. At the same time, access has been limited to web sites, deemed harmful to schoolchildren, through the internet filtering system of the "Websense" program used in the AEN. At the same time, 3000 Monoblock Lenovo desktop computers, 70 laptops, 153 projectors and 183 interactive electronic boards have been distributed throughout the country with the aim of providing ICT equipment to educational institutions during the months of October and November, 2015. During the process of providing ICT equipment to educational institutions, new equipment is given to the teaching staff and administrative staff members, who achieved good results in the evaluation of the trainings held to improve literacy in the field of information and communication technologies.
