Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education, Akif Alizadeh, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Republic, heads of higher education institutions,  well-known scientists of the republic, PhD students and young researchers attended the opening ceremony of the conference, organized with the support of the Ministry of Education. The conference, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Republic, will last two days. 414 theses were submitted from 20 higher education institutions and the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Republic during the conference. Well-known scientists will manage 15 sections, established in order to listen to the lectures of PhD students and young researchers and discuss them. Adalat Muradov, Rector of Azerbaijan State Economic University, opened the Conference with welcome speech and greeted the participants of the event. The Rector underlined the importance of expansion of ties between higher education institutions and scientific research institutions. In his speech, Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education, talked about the attention and care, provided by national leader Heydar Aliyev for the development of education and science, as well as for talented children and young people in Azerbaijan. "This policy is today being successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev,” he added. The minister also noted that the role of science and education was increasing rapidly in an era of unrivaled global competition. Mikayil Jabbarov stressed the importance of the use of all resources for the development of young researchers. The Minister underlined that much useful work had been done in this direction and mentioned that 50 percent of the country's scientists worked at 27 higher education institutions and scientific research institutions belonging to the Ministry of Education: "Science can`t exist without education, education can`t exist without science. It's time to transition from philosophy of traditional maximum scientific knowledge to optimal knowledge. We should be looking for methods of teaching the practical scientific knowledge". Referring to the small number of young teachers, currently working in the education system, the Minister said that one of the tasks ahead is to increase the number of teachers and to improve the quality. He also mentioned that the special program would be prepared in order to increase the number and the role of young scientists and researchers in higher education institutions. This program should determine medium-term and long-term goals for the state educational institutions. According to the Minister, involvement of young specialists in science and appointment of them to certain positions at universities should be implemented more systematically. According to his speech, engaging young scientists, who have completed their researches abroad, in the teaching process in higher education institutions is important and necessary. At the end of his speech, the Minister expressed his gratitude to more than 10 thousand students-volunteers, contributed to the excellent organization of the First European Games in our country and said that these students-volunteers bore a great responsibility for the successful presentation of this remarkable event. Akif Alizadeh, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Republic, emphasized the importance of reforms in the field of science. He also noted that cooperation between educational institutions and scientific research centers would be expanded. Saying Azerbaijan has a strong scientific potential, Akif Alizadeh noted that this potential will be strengthened by young people in the coming years: "Very strong and young scientific elite should be established in Azerbaijan. The scientific elite will manage the science in Azerbaijan in the next decades". Then they listened to speeches from PhD students, who will participate in the work of conference. The cooperation prospects between Koç University and higher education institutions of Azerbaijan, the possibilities of implementing joint educational programs and research projects, as well as teacher and student exchange were discussed during meeting. Umran Inan, rector of Koç University, said that the higher school operating under his leadership attaches great importance to the scientific research projects and the development of education in doctoral degrees. The guest also underlined that Koç University gives special importance to higher education institutions in Azerbaijan within the framework of the cooperation with higher education institutions in foreign countries. The rector noted that Azerbaijani students wishing to study for a doctorate at Koç University would be exempted from tuition fees. Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education, highly appreciated exemption of Azerbaijani PhD students from tuition fee by Koç University and mentioned that this step is consistent with the objectives of the development of science in higher education institutions in the country.

Festival was dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the birth of the great composer, the 95th anniversary of BMA and the 35th anniversary of middle speciality music school-studio of the Academy. At first, the national anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was performed by students of the school-studio under BMA. In his speech, Farhad Badalbeyli, the rector of BMA, the national actor of the USSR, professor, reminded that the birthday (September 18) of Uzeyir Hajibeyli, outstanding Azerbaijani composer, the founder of the Azerbaijan professional music, was declared the Day of Azerbaijani Music by the decree of the national leader Heydar Aliyev. F.Badalbeyli especially emphasized the merits of Mehriban Aliyeva, Azerbaijani First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, for the preservation and development of our national music and mugham, forming the basis of national music. He also underlined the great importance of learning the fret system. In her speech at the opening ceremony, Bahar Muradova, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly, said that today we are in Azerbaijan's most beautiful temple of music. There are spirits of our geniuses, wise men, who introduced our national music to the world, and the spirit of Uzeyir Hajibeyli in this temple. Noting the festival is dedicated to significant events, Firudin Gurbanov, Deputy Education Minister, congratulated the participants and wished them success. The Deputy Minister said that the festival is a great contribution to our music, our cultural heritage. Azerbaijani people should feel happy because they have such a deep and meaningful cultural heritage. Our music is an example of this heritage. Speaking about the work being done to preserve the cultural heritage in the country, the Deputy Minister noted that the significant projects aimed at developing and promoting the national music are currently implemented on the initiative and with the support of President Ilham Aliyev, as well as by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. It is no coincidence that, at the initiative of Mehriban Aliyeva, first lady of Azerbaijan, the musical masterpieces of the country had been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Firudin Gurbanov also mentioned that this festival helps to identify talented young people and assists them to become known to a wide audience. Therefore, the Ministry of Education always supports such measures and we will continue this work. I believe that this festival will be a great support to the further development of the new talented musicians. Professor Zemfira Gafarova, secretary of the Union of Composers, and Ramiz Guliyev, People's Artist of Azerbaijan, spoke about the role of the scientific research activities and the music theory in the development of the art of music. "The development program of understanding of national fret on the basis of Uzeyir Hajibeyli`s scientific system" was published on the occasion of the Festival. The authors of this publication are Farhad Badalbeyli and Tarlan Seyidov. Then the groups performed in the category "Chorus". Festival's panel of judges includes: People's artists Arif Melikov, Fidan and Khuraman Gasimovas, Ramiz Guliyev and other well-known musicians and performers. They will evaluate the performances of the festival participants in such categories as composition, choral, piano, vocal, folk instrumental music performance. More than 200 young musicians and performers arrived from Ganja, Agdash, Agsu, Agdam, Barda, Neftchala and other regions in order to participate in the festival. The purpose of this festival is to achieve a better understanding of the traditional major-minor system and the national fret system of Azerbaijan.  The festival will end on April 10, the winners will be awarded.

U-13 girls league was held with the participation of 33 teams in 3 subgroups by dividing into Eastern, Western and Northern zones. The team of IOEUG Football Schoolwas included in the group held with the participation of 6 teams in eastern zone.  School team won all games in the group and reached the final. In the final, held in tense struggle, the team lost a penalty shootout and took the 2nd place. U-16 UNICEF girls league was held with the participation of 16 teams in 2 subgroups by dividing into Eastern and Western zones. IOEUG Football School team, competing in this league, reached the final having scored a victory in all the matches without conceding a goal. The team, playing with a lot of confidence in the final, won the championship. The teams, occupying the first, second and third places in a championship, were awarded diplomas.

Mubariz Gurbanli, Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Associations, Firudin Gurbanov, Deputy Education Minister, Gamarkhanim Javadli, deputy Chair of the Caucasus Muslims Board, the scientist-theologians, education experts and NGO leaders attended the conference. Mubariz Gurbanli, Chairman of the State Committee, opened the conference with introductory remarks and informed about the Action Plan, approved by the joint order of the Ministry of Education and the State Committee for Work with Religious Associations, on "Strengthening measures for the upbringing of children and youth in the spirit of respect for national-moral and universal values in educational institutions". M. Gurbanli spoke about the activities of President Ilham Aliyev for the protection of national and moral values in accordance with the policy of national leader Heydar Aliyev and noted the work, done in this direction. Emphasizing the role of educational institutions in the upbringing of the children and the young generation in the spirit of national-moral values, he expressed satisfaction with the consistent implementation of work in this direction. The chairman of the committee reminded the necessity of approach to national-moral values through the prism of succession and modernity and spoke about its importance in terms of statehood and cultural heritage. Speaking at the conference, Deputy Education Minister Firudin Gurbanov noted that the national leader attached special importance to the education and upbringing of youth in the national spirit and on the basis of national-moral values. F.Gurbanov also mentioned that the development of the function of upbringing of education is considered a priority in the "National Strategy for the Development of Education in the Republic of Azerbaijan", approved by President Ilham Aliyev. It should be noted that the selection of persons, wishing to study in higher education institutions in China, is implemented by the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan Republic. Within the allocated quota, education is free. The registration fees, tuition fees, laboratory fees, practice fees, teaching materials, dormitory fees, ticket from Beijing to the training place and monthly living expenses in the higher education institution are paid by the People's Republic of China. In addition, the return tickets are provided by Azerbaijan for students only once each academic year. The excursion, aimed at increasing the positive impact of social projects on the students' intellectual development, the expansion of the students' world outlook and the formation of the students as active citizens, has been realized with joint support of the Ministry of Education and the "Old City" State Historical-Architectural Reserve Department under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In this complex, students got acquainted with rock paintings, Gaval dash (musical stone), weapons, ceramics, jewelry and household items, coins, the preserved ruins of the ancient residential complex and other historical and ethnographic examples, found on Absheron Peninsula and covered the period from the III-II millennium BC to the middle ages. The habitats over and under the rocks, the rock carvings, the ancient foundations, the primitive wall remnants of the Bronze Age, two underpasses towards the Caspian Sea and Baku city of X-XIV and X-XV centuries caused a great interest of children. In addition, the master classes were organized in the pottery, weaving and blacksmith shops for schoolchildren and students participated in the preparation of the relevant products.

Participating in the tournament with a staff of 19 people, "Vatan" faced with competitors, representing various cities of Russia including Stavropol, Makhachkala and Rostov, within a week. Our athletes, playing with a lot of confidence in the first round of the tournament, easily passed through the group stage. "Vatan" secured its place in the final after defeating “UOR Stavropol” team in penalty shootout at the semi-final stage. Our football players, losing the game with "Duss Stavropol" in the final, finished the tournament with the silver medal. The team was awarded for the individual achievements. Coach-teacher Ramiz Aliyev was awarded with the title of "the best coach of the tournament" and team member Sultan Mustafayev was awarded with the title of "the best midfielder of the tournament". The memorable gifts, sportswear and balls were presented to team by the tournament organizers.

Firudin Gurbanov, Deputy Education Minister, school principals and representatives of the sports community attended the ceremony, organized by the Ministry of Education at secondary school no. 12 in Baku. The main purpose of the festival is to strengthen the tendency and interest in chess among secondary school students, to increase the popularity of this sport, playing an important role in development of the cultural level, and to promote the essence of the first European Games, which will be held in Baku in June, among schoolchildren. Speaking at the ceremony, Firudin Gurbanov, Deputy Education Minister, spoke about the work carried out within the framework of the "State Program on development of chess in Azerbaijan in 2009-2014", approved by the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev. Firudin Gurbanov noted that now tens of thousands of school students study the mysteries of this intellectual game at 66 children-youth chess schools, subordinated to the Ministry of Education. Last year the students of children's and youth chess schools won 242 medals in republican competitions and 90 medals in international competitions. 15 of 22 international grand masters about the country, 7 of 14 masters of sport of the international category, 79 out of 100 Azerbaijani chess players included in the international and world rankings, are graduates of the chess schools which are directly functioning in an education system. The deputy minister also mentioned that chess was included in the curriculum of secondary schools, according to the joint memorandum signed by the Ministry of Education, the World Chess Federation and the Azerbaijan Chess Federation. Now in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th classes, more than 500 secondary schools are teaching chess lessons. It should be noted that the first stage of the competition was conducted among the pilot secondary schools, taught chess as a subject, and there were established the combined teams consisting of winner-students of district (city). More than 3 thousand students from 494 pilot schools, taught chess as a subject, participated in the competitions. About 400 students will compete for the title of champion in the final race. The trophies, diplomas and valuable prizes will be awarded to the teams, took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in Age Group and in a team score, and distinguished players will be awarded with the diploma by the Ministry of Education.
