On November 24, Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education, received Khair bin Mohammed Yusuf, Director General of the Ministry of Education of the Malaysian Federation. Mikayil Jabbarov emphasized the importance of learning the experience of Malaysia for our country. Both sides underlined the importance of further expansion of the prospects for cooperation in education and further development of cooperation in various fields of education in the future.

Minister of Education met with the Coordinator of the U.S. Assistance to Europe and Eurasia of the U.S. Department of State
On November 24, Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education, received Alina Romanowski, the Coordinator of the U.S. Assistance to Europe and Eurasia of the U.S. Department of State. During the meeting, the issues of adaptation of cooperation programs in education, carried out between the two countries, to the priority areas adopted by the Republic of Azerbaijan were discussed.

Mehriban Aliyeva meets ISESCO Director General Abdulaziz Othman Al-Twaijri and goodwill ambassadors
Azerbaijan’s First Lady, ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva met Director General of the organization Abdulaziz Othman Al-Twaijri and goodwill ambassadors, November 26. Welcoming the guests, Mehriban Aliyeva expressed gratitude for the holding of the 12th Session of ISESCO General Conference in Azerbaijan and emphasized the significance of this event for our country and for the Islamic world at large. Congratulating ISESCO director general on the decoration with “Friendship” Order - a high award of Azerbaijan, Mehriban Aliyeva underscored the close friendship relations between this organization and Azerbaijan. She emphasized that representatives of all religions and cultures in Azerbaijan are living in the environment of friendship and peace. It was also noted that significant events serving to strengthening of dialogue between cultures, religions and civilizations in our country are held in Azerbaijan and that tolerance has become a strong tradition in the Azerbaijani society’s life. Mehriban Aliyeva talked about the numerous events held by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, headed by her, and noted that comprehensive information has always been provided during such events about the tolerant environment dominating in Azerbaijan. Significance of increasing ISESCO goodwill ambassadors’ activity in strengthening of dialogue between cultures, religions and civilizations was emphasized. Mehriban Aliyeva expressed confidence that cooperation with ISESCO will be successfully continued in future too. Abdulaziz Othman Al-Twaijri thanked for the high-level organization of the event and the hospitality shown. The director general, expressing gratitude for the fruitful cooperation between Azerbaijan and ISESCO, emphasized the roles of President Ilham Aliyev and Mehriban Aliyeva in bringing the relations between Azerbaijan and the organization to such a high level. Chess Championship ended
The final round of the Republican Chess Championship of “Tahsil” Republican Sports Center was held. The final round, held at Guba region Specialized Children-Youth Chess School of Olympic Reserves, was organized in 6 age groups. The final round was attended by male and female chess players, who won the first, second and third places in zonal competitions. A total of 800 schoolchildren took part in the competitions. According to the rules of the International Chess Federation, the tournament was held on the Swiss system. According to the results of the competition, the teams of Baku city Children-Youth Sports and Chess School No.2, Guba region Specialized Children-Youth Chess School of Olympic Reserves and the Specialized Children-Youth Sports and Chess School of Olympic Reserves No.1 won the first, second and third places respectively in team score. Chess players, who were awarded first place in the championship in age groups, won the right to participate in the world championship among schoolchildren to be held in Tunisia in 2016. Second place winners will represent our country at the European championship among schoolchildren to be held in Greece.

Inauguration of Special Boarding School No.2 for children with retarded health condition takes place in Shuvalan settlement
Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva attended the inauguration of Special Boarding School No.2 for children with retarded health condition in Shuvalan settlement of Khazar district, after reconstruction, November 23. The school has been operating since 1962. A new education building was constructed here in 2013 by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Children with hearing and speaking defects study here. Education is carried out here in two sections. The first section is meant for those with slight hearing incapacity, while the second is provided for those with severe form of hearing disability. At this special school, designed for 220 children, an individual work to develop articulation and hearing capacity, as well as a work on mimicry and dactylology is carried out on an individual basis, along with teaching all subjects. Laboratories on biology, chemistry and physics, defectology room, sport, training and rhythmics rooms have been created in the school building, and provided with necessary accessories. Open sport ground has been created for the pupils’ leisure, and workshops built for professional training. Such sections as sewing, embroidery, carpet-weaving and tool-maker are operating here also. Special Boarding School No.4 in Shuvalan settlement is commissioned into operation after reconstruction
Inauguration of Republican Special Boarding School No.4 in Shuvalan settlement of Khazar district, reconstructed within the “Development of children homes and boarding schools” Programme of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, took place, November 23. Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva attended the inauguration. The establishment has been operating since 1967. In 2013, the old school building was dismantled and a new one built instead. Education, sleeping buildings and a medical station have been constructed at the school designed for 160 children. Music, health-improving physical training rooms and classrooms have been provided with all necessary equipment. In addition, a two-storied Rehabilitation-Development Centre has been constructed for 100 preschool-age children with impaired health condition in the place of the small building of the Rehabilitation Centre. Favourable conditions have been created to ensure that specialists working at the centre could serve children in the course of a day, as well as for children’s nourishment and rest. The boarding school has also new vocational rooms for pottery, carpet-weaving, tool-making, sewing, embroidery and painting. A swimming pool and sports hall are operating at the school to organise children’s leisure and rest. Shelters and an open football pitch have been also created in the school’s yard. Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation visits Azerbaijan
On November 20, the delegation headed by Dmitry Livanov, Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, visited the Alley of Honors to lay a wreath at the tomb of national leader Heydar Aliyev and to express respect and reverence for the blessed memory of the great leader. Then, the Russian delegation visited the graves of Azerbaijani citizens died for the country's independence and territorial integrity in the Alley of Martyrs. The purpose of the visit of Dmitry Livanov, Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, is to expand relations between the two countries in the field of education and science. At secondary school No. 23 of Baku, Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education of the Azerbaijan Republic, and Dmitry Livanov, Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, met with the directors of secondary schools with Russian as the language of instruction. During the meeting, discussions were held on the teaching process of schools with Russian as the language of instruction in Azerbaijan and the questions of school principals were answered. During the visit of the Russian delegation, the establishment ceremony of Azerbaijan-Russia Association of Higher Education Institutions was held. Prior to the ceremony, Fatma Abdullazade, head of Humanitarian Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education, Akif Alizade, President of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, and Elchin Babayev, Executive Director of the Science Development Fund, met with of Dmitry Livanov, Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. During the meeting, they discussed issues related to cooperation between the two countries in the field of education and science. Speaking at the ceremony, Mikayil Jabbarov spoke about the importance of expanding relations between the two countries in the humanitarian, educational and scientific fields. The Minister said that the relations based the modern challenges would provide the basis for mutual exchange of experience and realization of joint innovative projects. Mentioning the existence of common historical ties between the two countries, Dmitry Livanov said in his speech that cooperation between higher education institutions generally had a positive impact on the quality of education. The Minister also noted that the newly established Azerbaijan-Russia Association of Higher Education Institutions would be a good platform for interuniversity cooperation. After listening to the speeches, a Memorandum on establishment of Azerbaijan-Russia Association of Higher Education Institutions was signed by rectors of higher education institutions of the two countries.

The Azerbaijan-Russia interuniversity forum
On November 19, the Azerbaijan-Russia interuniversity forum started at "ADA" University. Opening the Forum with opening speech, Hafiz Pashayev, Rector of "ADA" University, noted that there were historically extensive ties in the field of education between Azerbaijan and Russia. Rector also said that the Forum was attended by heads of universities located in various cities of Russia. Rector emphasized that a Memorandum on establishment of Azerbaijan-Russia Association of Higher Education Institutions would be signed within the framework of the Forum and this body would give impetus to the further expansion of cooperation between universities of the two countries. During the forum, Elkhan Huseynov, Rector of Sumgait State University, Ramil Bakhtizin, Rector of Ufa State Petroleum Technological University, Gulchohra Mammadova, Rector of Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, Efim Pivovar, Acting rector of the Russian State University for the Humanities, Mustafa Babanli, Rector of Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry, Dmitry Bykov, Rector of Samara State Technical University, and Havar Mammadov, Rector of Azerbaijan Technical University, delivered speeches on the activities of the higher education institutions headed by them and the priority directions of mutual cooperation. The speakers emphasized the importance of the forum in terms of exchange of experience and noted that the forum would contribute to the establishment of interuniversity cooperation and the development of scientific relations. The forum will continue the next day. Within the framework of the forum, it is scheduled that Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education of the Azerbaijan Republic, will meet with Dmitry Livanov, Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, who will visit Baku to participate in this important event, as well as, a Memorandum on establishment of Azerbaijan-Russia Association of Higher Education Institutions will be signed.

The first stage of subject competitions has ended
The first stage of subject competitions in mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology among 7-8th grades students ended. 8769 pupils participated in the first stage of subject competitions held in the country. It is scheduled to hold the second stage of subject competitions on December 5, the third stage in January 9 next year. The countrywide subject competitions will be organized in May next year. The competitions consisting of 3 stages are implemented within the framework of preparation for the international Olympiads. At the same time, the main objective of competitions is to increase schoolchildren`s interest in subjects in the regions and cities of the country, to create conditions for healthy competition among talented and hard-working pupils and to strengthen their potential.It should be noted that subject competitions, held among 35 schools selected from Baku and Sumgait as a pilot project in the past academic year, aroused great interest among pupils and teachers. According to the results of subject competitions, groups were created on the basis of subjects and lessons were conducted in order to prepare pupils, taking an active part in competitions, for national and international competitions, as well as Olympiads.
