The second stage of a contest, which is conducted under “Professional Development of Education Managers” project, was held on April 30. This stage saw a total of 550 candidates spend an hour to take 30 logic questions. Those who will successfully complete the final stage of the contest (interview) will have the opportunity to have a one-year monthly paid internship and trainings at the Ministry of Education and its institutions in Baku. The Ministry of Education implements different projects with the aim of developing and modernizing human resources in education under the “State Strategy for Development of Education in the Republic of Azerbaijan”. In this sense, the contest, which is aimed at involving education workers and those seeking employment in education sector in a one-year internship program and trainings at the Ministry of Education and its institutions in Baku, has provoked particular interest. The results of the semi-final stage of the Republican subject Olympiads held by the Ministry of Education in all cities and regions of the country were announced. According to the results, the final stage of subject Olympiads will be attended by 271 pupils in exact science and 415 pupils in humanitarian subjects. Pupils can get information about their results from relevant Education Departments (offices). At the final stage, pupils will test their knowledge in two groups. Thus, 10th and 11th grade students will answer questions on the same materials in the category of upper age group, and 9th grade students and lower grade students with special talents will answer questions on the same materials in the category of lower age group. During the final stage, pupils will answer open questions requiring proof, explanation and solution. The final stage of subject Olympiads in exact subjects will be held on April 15-17, in humanitarian subjects will be held on April 22-24. The registration process and the opening ceremony will be held on the first day of the final stage, the final stage will be held on the second day, and the results will be announced and the appeal process will be held on the third day.  It should be noted that the first - regional (city) stage of the Republican subject Olympiads was held on January 17. More than 27 500 pupils participated in this stage. About 4500 pupils demonstrated their knowledge and skills in the semi-final round of the Olympiad.

Registration of electronic applications for appointment to the post of director at general educational institutions included in the system of the Ministry of Education began on March 18. 1700 people filed electronic applications for 600 vacant positions until March 28. Acceptance of applications will continue until March 31. The next stage will be held in April for the candidates whose applications have been approved. Under the new rules, each person, who has received higher education in the field of teaching or management, and has had at least 5 years of teaching experience, will be able to participate in the competition for filling the post of director. On March 18, the Ministry of Education held a press conference on the approval of new rules for recruitment to the post of director of general educational institution and displacement of directors. It was noted at the press conference that according to the new rules which were approved, the Ministry of Education would hold a competition in a centralized manner for filling vacant positions as directors of general educational institutions. The four-stage competition will take place during the months of March and April. The new rules include a number of innovations in recruitment of directors and change of workplace. Thus, each person, who has received higher education in the field of teaching or management, and has had at least 5 years of teaching experience, will be able to participate in the competition for filling the post of director. Any person, who meets the above-mentioned requirements, may choose a vacant position of director of school of district (city), where he (she) is registered or is actually living, in order to participate in the competition. Persons wishing to register should visit this page. In addition, persons who have received a "Certificate of Success" by completing the "Training courses on identifying candidates for leading positions in general educational institutions" and who have participated in the competition for the recruitment of directors in the cities and regions covered by these training courses, are exempted from the third stage (examination) of the competition and pass to the fourth stage (interview).  Persons who want to become a school principal are required to answer test questions in the field of labor and education legislation, school governance, finance and statistics, as well as to write an essay on the topic submitted in advance. It was also noted at the press conference that monthly wages, determined in accordance with the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on "Increasing the teaching loads and wages of teachers who are working at public general educational institutions and whose knowledge and skills have been diagnostically evaluated", had been increased by 10% since April 1.    In the end, numerous questions from journalists were answered.

The ceremony of awarding the winners of the project "Thought observation" was held at the lyceum named after Academician Zarifa Aliyeva in Baku. The project " Thought observation", carried out with the support of Youth Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and in partnership with DVC (Debate in Civil Society Public Union), serves the purpose of increasing young people's interest in dramatic reading, organizing their leisure time more effectively, expressing themselves more fully and acquiring the ability to analyze. Under the project "Thought observation", young people discussed the literary writing, that was presented to them, as a team, and presented the idea, that the author wants to convey to the reader, through a series of videos made in the form of silent film. The videos were evaluated by the jury. The winning teams were awarded medals, diplomas and prizes. The event was attended by Huseyn Mirzayev, Senior Adviser of the Department of educational development programs at the Ministry of Education, Mirahmad Askerov, artistic director of the Cultural Center named after I.M.Abilov, director Afghan Yusibov, and Janoglan Ilyasov, DVC's program manager, as well as teachers and pupils of the lyceum. It should be noted that DVC, which began operating as the "Debate" educational program since 1998 in Azerbaijan, operates within the framework of the programs "National Debate", "Youth Inc.", and "Green Office" in order to enlighten the society. The National Debate Program, which is one of the leading programs of DVC, is aimed at enlightening young people and creating a network of intellectual youth.  Debate methodology, social activeness, as well as other knowledge, skills and values are instilled in young people through the program. The program covers the country's 45 regions and large cities, and includes 11 regional representative offices. So far, more than 40000 young people participated in the events held within the framework of the National Debate Program.

On March 15, 2016, the "Education Cup" of the Republican Sports Center "Tahsil" in rhythmic gymnastics has begun at the Specialized Olympic Reserves Child-Youth Gymnastics School. The opening ceremony of the competition was attended by the representatives of the Republican Sports Center "Tahsil", Gymnastics School and sports community. The athletes of sports schools, sports societies and sports clubs are participating in the competition. In total, more than 100 athletes are competing in the competition. All kinds of rhythmic gymnastics in different age groups were included in the competitions. It should be noted that all kinds of rhythmic gymnastics in different age groups were approved in the classification program of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation. The athletes, who won first, second and third places, will be awarded Diplomas and medals of the Center.

On March 16, the ceremony of awarding the winners of the first online competition entitled  “The story of my family" was held at complete secondary school No. 18 within the framework of the "School community" project. The event was attended by employees of the Ministry of Education and Baku city Education Department, competition organizers, schoolchildren, parents and mass media representatives. The speakers spoke about the importance of competition, and noted that the writings had a positive impact on the improvement of pupils' academic achievements. It was noted that the "School community" project played an important role in the regulation of teacher-student-parent relationships. It was also underlined that 50 general education institutions, operating in Baku, would be involved in this project during this year. The competition began on January 27. More than 500 stories were submitted to the competition attended by 1st - 11th grade students. Under the terms of the competition, each participant placed the story of his (her) own family (no more than 1000 words) and relevant picture or illustration in a group established for the competition entitled " The story of my family" of the portal www.community.az. Roya Abdullayeva and Lala Imanaliyeva - pupils of complete secondary school No. 204 named after A. Aliyev received the most votes and won the competition. In addition, 6 pupils were selected by a jury as the author of the most interesting story. The winners were presented with valuable prizes by the partners - “Access Bank” OJSC, "Healthy Family" LLC, "Standard Insurance" OJSC, and "Azerfon" LLC. It should be noted that school communities were established in 54 general education institutions of the country within the framework of the pilot project implemented by the Ministry of Education with the financial support of the World Bank and the organizational support of the company “Allianz Consult”.

On March 15, the Round Table on the transition to a 12-year general education system was held in Sumgait. The discussions were attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Education, leadership and employees of Sumgait City Education Department, heads of general educational institutions of the city, teachers and parents. At the Round Table, the participants were informed about the advantages of a 12-year general education system, the global experience in this field, the necessary steps that will be taken in connection with preparation for the process, and the main goals of the transition to a new model of general education. Taking into account the requirements of the twenty-first century and the characteristics of the labor market in connection with the transition to a 12-year general education system, the speakers put forward proposals on the optimal determination of content and teaching loads, the implementation of education on subject-orientations at the level of complete secondary education, the need to increase opportunities for vocational education, and the possible models of general education by taking into consideration the preschool education stage.
