SABAH students to participate in Young Global Pioneers unique international learning program
SABAH Groups and Carlsberg Azerbaijan are selecting candidates for the Young Global Pioneers (YGP) international learning program. YGP Talent Network will start with a learning journey in Tanzania and Zanzibar from July 23-August 12. The network will consist of 20 talents between the ages of 19 to 25, coming from a broad range of countries and diverse backgrounds. The three-week journey will see young talents build relationships and form their own life-long YGP Talent Network. They will learn from and inspire each other, while engaging in mind opening experiences and daily facilitated reflections. The participants of the program will learn about the culture, history, opportunities and challenges of the region, engage with local businesses and universities. They will also engage with youth from SOS Children’s Village, and spend a day on a safari. Several countries of the Eastern European region: Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan will hold a competition this year with the support of Carlsberg Bequest, part of Carlsberg Foundation, to choose their candidates. The program will be implemented in Azerbaijan in partnership with SABAH Groups. After the journey the participants will engage in Global Reflections, which was developed by YGP as one way for the YGP Talent Networks to keep in touch and continue to inspire each other. Coming from a broad range of countries and diverse backgrounds, the talents are all ambitious and curious and aspire to make their mark on the world. When travelling together on the Journey they will gain global insights and intercultural competencies, all while engaging in mind opening experiences. The potential winner must meet the following criteria: 19-25 years old, as per July 2017; Sufficient fluency in written and spoken English (as to have advanced conversations and build relationships); Talented, ambitious and curious (no formal academic requirements); Interested in taking part in a global talent network not only during the journey. To participate the candidates should send documents to baku_news@baltika-baku.az no later than April 20, 2017. Four semi-finalists from four countries will be announced on April 28. Visit to Jojug Marjanli
The Ministry of Education organized a visit to the liberated village of Jojug Marjanli in Jabrayil district on April 5. A delegation that visited the village included deputy Minister of Education Firudin Qurbanov, as well as a group of foreign students at Azerbaijani higher education institutions and media representatives. The visit aimed to show the atrocities committed by the Armenians in Jojug Marjanli village to the foreign students, reaffirm Azerbaijan`s eagerness to liberate the occupied territories, and inform the students of the restoration work, which is underway in the village under the President`s order. The delegation first laid flowers at the bust of the national leader in the Heydar Aliyev Center in the city of Horadiz, Fuzuli district. They then visited the village of Jojug Marjanli, which was freed from the Armenian occupation. Members of the delegation were informed of the restoration, construction and mine clearance work, which is carried out in the village under the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The village was occupied by the Armenian armed forces in 1993. The village was freed from occupation as a result of Horadiz operation of the Azerbaijani army in the early 1994. Bu Jojug Marjanli village had been unsuitable to live in until April of 2016 because strategic Lala Tapa hill was under the Armenian occupation. The Azerbaijani armed force`s liberating the hill last April enabled a safe life in the village. The delegation viewed the progress of the construction of a school in Jojug Marjanli village. The construction of the 50-seat school started this February. The members of the delegation then met with the Haziyevs family, who have lived in Jojug Marjanli for more than 20 years, and also planted a tree in the village. The delegation then met with teachers and pupils of the secondary school No. 3, which was built by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in the city of Horadiz. Children of martyrs were presented with books. The members of the delegation were given booklets highlighting Armenia`s aggression and occupation as well as the April battles.

Foreign students in Azerbaijan to visit Jojug Marjanli

Minister of Education visits Baku Engineering University
Minister of Education Mikayil Jabbarov visited Baku Engineering University on April 3. The minister familiarized himself with the university`s material and technical resources and met with its management and teachers. Prior to the meeting the minister of education was informed of the activity of the mechanical and chemical engineering laboratories. Mikayil Jabbarov emphasized the importance of improving the activity of laboratories, which he described as a unique basis for personnel training. Rector Havar Mammadov said the university has a total employment of 3,800 students at a bachelor`s level. “Nine students won a presidential stipend this year. The university has a total of 55 presidential stipend holders.” Minister of Education Mikayil Jabbarov said universities should be highly competitive and apply modern administration principles. “Universities have to improve the quality of their work especially at a time when education at world-famous universities has become accessible and admission has become easier in comparison with previous years.” Minister Mikayil Jabbarov highlighted the reforms carried out in the field of education in the past four years. The minister drew the audience`s attention to management system at Baku Engineering University. Mikayil Jabbarov said necessary support will be provided to help the university make it to the front rank of higher educational institutions. The meeting featured an exchange of views involving professors and teachers of the university.

“School Gardens” project underway
“School Gardens”, a joint project of IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action) Public Union, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Ministry of Education, is underway. The project saw the planting of fruit trees in Shamakhi, Zagatala, Siyazan and Khachmaz districts, involving schoolchildren. The tree planting campaign was held in many districts across the country. “School Gardens” project was initiated by Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of IDEA Public Union, FAO Goodwill Ambassador Leyla Aliyeva. Leyla Aliyeva attended the first campaign under the project, which saw the planting of 100 trees in the yard of the school No 234 in Baku. The project is designed to encourage healthy eating, effectively use and green school yards. Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of IDEA Public Union Leyla Aliyeva has been a FAO Goodwill Ambassador since 2015. Major objectives of FAO include helping eliminate hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition and enabling inclusive and efficient agricultural and food systems. IDEA Public Union works to promote environmental education and conduct environmental awareness. In partnership with the Ministry of Education, IDEA Public Union has implemented a number of projects aimed at encouraging young people to protect environment, improving environmental situation in educational institutions and increasing environmental awareness of students. “School Gardens” project will see the planting of trees in other districts of Azerbaijan throughout April. The project will involve more than 40 schools, and around 5,000 apple, pear, cherry, plum, nuts, pomegranate, dates, almonds and quince trees will be planted.

Campaign starts to promote Islamic Solidarity Games among schoolchildren
Mass sporting events were launched on March 30 as a campaign starts to promote the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games among schoolchildren. Organized in accordance with an order of the minister of education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the events are aimed at promoting the sports, which will be featured at the Islamic Solidarity Games, among schoolchildren, encouraging their interest in sport and healthy lifestyle. The tournaments will be held in six zones, featuring freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, judo, taekwondo, karate, boxing, athletics, table tennis, basketball, rhythmic gymnastics, and artistic gymnastics. More than 6,000 schoolchildren are expected to compete in mass sporting events. Winners of first, second and third places in both team and individual disciplines will be awarded certificates and medals. The tournaments will end on April 26.

Minister of education receives citizens in Aghdash
Minister of Education Mikayil Jabbarov received residents of Aghdash, Yevlakh, Barda districts and the city of Mingachevir at the Heydar Aliyev Center in the city of Aghdash on March 6. In accordance with March 2017 timetable of reception hours of government executives, internally displaced persons with temporary residence in Aghdash, Yevlakh, Barda districts and the city of Mingachevir also attended the reception. The minister listened to citizens`s requests, complaints and proposals, and instructed heads of the ministry’s appropriate bodies to immediately deal with every request in accordance with law. The issues raised at the reception included recruitment and transfer of teachers from one school (district) to another, student transfer, recognition of diplomas, etc. A number of issues were immediately dealt with. *** Minister Mikayil Jabbarov also viewed construction progress of a new education block of Qabala Vocational School. To be commissioned in the first half of this year, the vocational school will prepare highly-qualified specialists in the field of agriculture. The curriculum of the school will be made in accordance with BP`s “Development of New Occupations in Agricultural Vocational Education” project and “Agricultural Specialist” project of the United Nations Development Programme.

“Sustainable development of Karabakh by the example of Aghdam” project presented
SABAH groups students at Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction presented their “Sustainable development of Karabakh by the example of Aghdam” project on March 3. Participants in the event included deputy Prime Minister, chairman of the State Committee for Refugee and IDP Affairs Ali Hasanov, deputy chairperson of the Milli Majlis Bahar Muradova, Azerbaijan`s Commissioner for Human Rights Elmira Süleymanova, Minister of Education Mikayil Jabbarov, members of parliament and public figures. Participants of the ceremony first viewed an exhibition in the foyer of the university. In her remarks at the ceremony, rector of Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction Gulchohra Mammadova said the project aims to engage students in restoration work to be carried out in the occupied lands after they will be liberated. “This is a concept of design and sustainable development of Karabakh.” Project manager, head of the Department of Environment of Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction Faqan Aliyev said the project was developed by students at the university`s SABAH groups in partnership with teachers and professors. Students then presented a scheme to carry out renovation and construction works in the occupied lands by the example of the city of Aghdam. The scheme featured the general layout of the city, and layouts of the city`s transport infrastructure, proposals on the use of renewable energy sources and power-generation potential of Kichik Chay sources in Karabakh, plans for the city`s wastewater collection system and main pipeline plan, and layouts of private houses and multi-storey residential buildings. Deputy Prime Minister, chairman of the State Committee for Refugee and IDP Affairs Ali Hasanov welcomed the project of students at SABAH groups. He described “Sustainable development of Karabakh by the example of Aghdam” project as a true example of patriotism. “I am hopeful that by developing such projects our students will contribute to restoration and development of our occupied lands, which will be liberated under the leadership of the President of Azerbaijan.” “The head of state`s decision to launch restoration works in the liberated Jojuq Marjanli village is the beginning of a remarkable historical mission. And today`s event sets the outlines of the historical return.” Deputy chairperson of the Milli Majlis Bahar Muradova, Head of Shusha District Executive Authority Bayram Safarov congratulated the students on the presentation of the project. They said this initiative fully meets the goals set by the policy pursued by the President of Azerbaijan. Minister of Education Mikayil Jabbarov described the project as a product of long-term and tireless labour. “The project is not merely a professional approach. It indicates that our youth are not indifferent to crucial challenges facing our country. This project is the best example of patriotism and dedication.” Mikayil Jabbarov said the students presented a vital restoration project that will be so much needed by the country. The minister said the project is indicative of Azerbaijani students` potential. Mikayil Jabbarov said SABAH groups were established three years ago with the aim of creating innovative education environment, and preparing well-educated, skilled and well-prepared students and specialists. Rector of Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction thanked the participants of the event on behalf of the university`s professors and teachers.

Minister of Education receives Ukrainian delegation
Minister of Education Mikayil Jabbarov received a Ukrainian delegation led by First Deputy Minister of Education and Science Vladimir Kovtunets on February 28. They discussed Azerbaijan-Ukraine relations in the field of education and prospects for cooperation in accordance with the tasks set by the “State Strategy for Development of Education in the Republic of Azerbaijan”. Minister of Education continues Turkey visit
A delegation led by Minister of Education Mikayil Jabbarov visited the monument to the national leader in the Heydar Aliyev Park in Ankara on February 22. The Azerbaijani delegation also put a wreath at the tomb of the founder of the Republic of Turkey Mustafa Kemal Ataturk at Anitkabir. The minister of education signed the guest book here. Minister of Education Mikayil Jabbarov then visited Heydar Aliyev School in Ankara, and addressed pupils. Mikayil Jabbarov then met with Minster of National Education of the Republic of Turkey Ismet Yilmaz. They hailed friendly and brotherly relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey, and discussed prospects for cooperation in the field of education. Minister Mikayil Jabbarov then had a meeting with chairman of the Directorate of Turks Living Abroad and Related Communities Mehmet Kose. They discussed a range of issues, including the expansion of student exchange and application of different scholarship programs.
