School fair to be held

Community.az portal will hold a school fair as part of “School communities” project from September 8 to 11, 2016. The fair will be organized in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Baku City Education Department, Yasamal District Municipality and National Encyclopedia Center. The fair will be held at the National Encyclopedia Center (Book Café). It will see participation of “Sharg-Garb” publishing house, “Saglam aile” medical center, “SOS” Children`s Villages, “Dars evi” education center, “Standard Insurance”, and “Antaris” school supplies company. The fair aims to offer parents quality and cheap school supplies, including textbooks, books, etc. The fair will be open from 10:00 to 19:00.

Applications for student transfer close

Applications for the transfer of students from one higher education institution (or specialty) to another within the country and abroad closed on September 5, 2016. Applications had been open at transfer.edu.az portal since August 10. A total of 1601 applications were received during this period. 239 students completed their applications by choosing the universities they want to be transferred to. 51 students withdrew their applications. 108 out of 188 students applied to be transferred from local universities, while 80 students wanted to be transferred from foreign higher education institutions. Under the Education Minister`s order on electronization of the process of transfer of students and their choice of specialty, the transfer of bachelor students from one university to another (or from one specialty to another) was conducted through transfer.edu.az portal of the Ministry of Education.

“ASAN Intellektual” development center opens in Masalli

“ASAN Intellektual” development center was launched at “ASAN hayat” complex of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations, which opened in Masalli on September 3 with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in attendance.  “ASAN Intellektual” provides all conditions for youth to spend their leisure time effectively. The center will host regional, countrywide and international events, competitions and quizzes. It will encourage intellectual development of the youth, and the improvement of their world view.  The center will also shape the youth`s knowledge and skills to help them build their careers. The center has a quiz club, library and interactive reading room, career and training center, chess club, debate and rhetoric club, and will also conduct creative courses for children. The quiz club will organize regular quiz championships and school leagues (What? Where? When? and others) in Masalli, Lankaran, Astara, Jalilabad, Bilasuvar, Yardimli, Lerik districts, regional and countrywide tournaments (Azerbaijani championship and Azerbaijani Cup). The library and interactive reading room offers new books in different languages and a state-of-the-art reading room to local residents. The library also plans to launch a project to digitize samples of classic and modern Azerbaijani literature. The library will also host meetings with famous writers and poets and presentations of new books. The career and training center will conduct courses and trainings on various topics for teachers (IT, Russian and English languages, accounting, etc.). It will also organize career days involving representatives of leading companies and give young people practical knowledge in a variety of areas. The center will invite foreign experts who will give lectures here. The career center will also give consultancy services to young people to help them with career choice and planning. The chess club will work to discover young talented chess players, support their development and popularize chess in the district. It will organize regular blitz tournaments and friendly games, as well as district, regional and countrywide competitions. The children`s creative clubs will offer courses on drawing, applied arts, local lore studies, environment, and knitting. The debate and rhetoric club will work to improve young people`s oratory skills, and their ability to easily hold debates on different topics, conduct presentations and deal with a wide range of information. The program aims to increase young people`s knowledge and set up an intelligent youth network. It also aims to improve young people`s capabilities and instill some values in them, including debate methodology, arguing, convincing, rhetoric, critical and creative thinking, networking, and social activity.

President Ilham Aliyev viewed conditions created at new block of school No. 245 in Baku

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has viewed the conditions created at a new block of secondary school No. 245 in Khatai district in Baku. Head of Baku City Executive Authority Hajibala Abutalibov informed the head of state of the work done here. He said the building was constructed in 1968. In 2014, the 1800-seat school was completely reconstructed. In 2014, the construction of a new block of the school started. It now has an enrollment of 2111 pupils in 80 classes. The new block occupies an area of 2630 square metres. It has 20 classrooms and is capable of holding 579 pupils. President Ilham Aliyev viewed the auditorium and gym. The school employs 189 people, including 166 teachers.   www.president.az

Event on vocational education held in Qabala

The Ministry of Education and United Nations Development Programme launched “New specialties in agriculture” program in Qabala on September 2. The project will be implemented at Qabala Vocational School. Participants in the event included members of the district`s general public, representatives of executive bodies, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Regional Agricultural Department, as well as the private sector. The event aimed to inform the district`s public and target groups about the work done under the project and encourage the expansion of cooperation between Qabala Vocational School and the private sector. In his speech at the event, deputy head of Qabala District Executive Authority Arif Allahverdiyev highlighted the importance of the project to the district. Deputy head of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Education Parviz Yusifov provided an insight into the measures and projects implemented in partnership with international organizations to reconstruct Qabala Vocational School. He said measures were taken together with international experts to establish Modern Education Center for agricultural specialties on the basis of Qabala Vocational School. Yusifov said the construction of a new education block, workshop and training rooms continued. “The project will see the establishment of new specialties in line with requirements of the labor market, preparation of new textbooks, and the organization of trainings for teachers.” UNDP representative Eltakin Omarov spoke of the preparation of textbooks on “Agricultural specialist” specialty under “Sustainable Land and Forest Management in Greater Caucasus Landscape”, “EC ClimaEast Pilot”, “Ecosystem-based approaches to climate change” projects. The event also provided an insight into the British Council`s preparation of textbooks on “Plant specialist” and “Agroservice specialist” specialties under BP-funded “Establishment of New Specialties in Agriculture” project.

Ministry of Education holds Board meeting

The Board of the Ministry of Education convened a meeting to discuss the issues relating to higher education on September 2. Participants in the meeting included Board members, heads of ministerial departments, and rectors of higher education institutions. The meeting heard reports from the ministerial officials on the results of student admission in universities for the 2016-2017 academic year, payment of tuition fees, student transfer, and public relations of higher education institutions. The meeting also heard reports on the activities of Azerbaijan Technological University in the 2015-2016 academic year, and the course of the implementation of French-Azerbaijani University project. The meeting then featured discussions on the issues on the agenda, and participants made several proposals and gave recommendations.  In his speech, Minister of Education Mikayil Jabbarov commented and gave recommendations on the topics discussed. He highlighted qualitative and quantitative indicators of student admission in higher education institutions in the last three years. The Minister also highlighted the importance of https://transfer.edu.az portal, which aims to ease the transfer of students from one university (or from one specialty) to another both within the country and abroad. The meeting also featured discussions on a range of organizational issues. Rector of Baku Slavic University Nurlana Aliyeva received a severe warning for not ensuring adequate control during repair works at the university, violating relevant legal requirements and execution discipline.
