The event organized by The Economist Events on "The non-oil sector is leading field of the real economy" was attended by the government officials of a number of countries including Azerbaijan, large-company executives, economists and experts. The main goal of the summit was to discuss the main prospects, opportunities and challenges of the countries with transition economy. The event chaired by the John Andrews, editor of The Economist magazine began with the speeches about diversification opportunities of the oil economy of Azerbaijan and its impact to different spheres of the country's economy. Minister of Communications and High Technologies, Ali Abbasov speaking about development trends of information technologies and its relation with 2020 goals of Azerbaijan highlighted that ICT was the major economic phenomenon of the new century. At the summit, Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education made a report on "Education to ensure national growth" The minister highlighted that in modern era, the relations between the education system and employers were changing and said that the main goal of this time is to establish a modern education system meeting the requirements of our times. Studies have shown that socio-economic progress is the result of advanced education system. Given these factors, the government implements educational reforms and new projects. Mikayil Jabbarov gave broad information about innovations of the education system to the summit participants. The Minister noted that there had been prepared the Action Plan based to "National Education Development Strategy" considered the major document for realization of educational reforms and the plan was approved by the head of the state in  January of this year. This plan is a roadmap for achieving the goals specified in the strategy. The Ministry of Education had already started to implement the Strategy in collaboration with relevant government agencies. The Minister gave information and expressed his views about SABAH groups, the result of "State Program on education of Azerbaijan youth abroad in the years 2007-2015", innovations implemented to improve the social well-being of the learners and other issues. In her speech, Sevinj Hasanova, Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry touched the challenges set by the global economic changes before our country. The event attended by the leading representatives of the education, banking, technology and industrial sectors involved the panel discussions on "Energy sector - the next chapter: the development of the basis of Azerbaijan economic power", "Outside the framework of the oil economy: establishment of competitive micro basis", "Innovation, entrepreneurship and diversification: avoiding obstacles", "Digital Age: the role of technology and telecommunications in the new economic conditions", "Sports events: Azerbaijan's position in the world" and "Diversification: increasing the share of non-oil sector".

The semi-final stage of the National Science Olympiads attended by 3700 pupils were held in 11 centers located in Baku, Sumgayit, Ganja, Shirvan, Sheki, Mingachevir, Lankaran, Shamakhi, Aghdash, Khachmaz and Nakhchivan. The participants were tasked to solve 25-30 tests. According to the rules, the pupils answered the questions of humanitarian disciplines (Azerbaijani language and literature, history and geography) within 90 minutes and technical disciplines (mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and informatics) within 3 hours. In this stage of the National Science Olympiads, the exams on informatics were held on computer in 3 centers located in Baku, Ganja, Nakhchivan. According to the results of the semi-final stage, about 400 candidates will have an opportunity to participate at the next final stage on eight disciplines. Note that, the science olympiads are held in three stages. The first - regional stage of the Olympiad were attended by 22000 pupils on eight subjects.

The festival will be held among the students of music and art schools on composition, instrumental performance, choir and solo nominations. The goal of organization of the competition is to activate the national music gen memory having a great importance in formation of the spiritual image of the young generation and to increase the interest of the students of music and art schools to their national roots and basis of Azerbaijan folk art. Under the terms of the festival, the participants should perform composer's plays written on folk music tunes and Azerbaijan fret. Before rendition of each play, the participant should sound the structure and cadence of the fret used in the work. The winners will be determined by the jury. The winners of the awards will be honored with the name of the "Festival laureate". On the last day of the festival will be held a concert with the participation of the winners.

The 3-day forum attended by Afgan Abdullayev, the senior consultant of the Licensing and Accreditation sector of the Legal expertise and licensing department of the Ministry of Education involved discussion of the issues as excellence in education, language skills and habits, standardized language tests, curriculum globalization, language teacher training, application of the modern training techniques, assessment of the knowledge and skills. The participants of the forum organized by the Education First (EF) international community became acquainted with the researches conducted in this sphere in Harvard University and their application opportunities, and watched the related classes. Note that, the forum was organized within the events dedicated to the 50 years anniversary of EF. The goal of EF founded by Bertil Hult half a century ago is to promote wide expansion of the education in the world. EF having branches in 45 cities of 21 countries supports the millions of people to learn English.

The school-lyceum no. 220 in Nizami district and secondary school no 138 in Khatai district are chosen as pilot institutions for the project. The knowledge competition organized in partnership with Heydar Aliyev Foundation,  Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth and Sports and aired on AzTV was attended by the combined teams of Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Belarus, Germany, Georgia, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Estonia, Russia, USA and Turkmenistan, including combined team of the "Baku" club. The first game held between "Baku" combined team of Azerbaijan and combined team of Estonia ended 4-5 and the end score of the competition of the US combined team and Germany combined team was 5-4. The first final match between combined teams of Estonia and US was finished 5-2 and the second final game - 4-5 and Estonia team entered the semifinal stage. The game between Belarus and Georgia combined teams and match between Ukraine and Uzbekistan combined teams ended respectively 5-4 and 5-2. Ukraine combined team won the final game in competition with Belarus combined team (1-5; 5-2). In the third match, Moldova combined team gained a victory over Russia combined team (5-4). Then, Azerbaijan combined team was superior to Turkmenistan combined team (5-4). In the final game, Azerbaijan team won a victory over Moldova team (5-2; 5-1). The game between Russia and Belarus teams ended in draw (4-6; 5-4). Belarus combined team answering the additional questions entered the final stage. The other finalist was determined in the match between Azerbaijan and USA combined teams. Azerbaijan combined team gained a victory over US combined team in 5-1 and 5-3 and entered the final stage. The tense final match finished with the victory of Azerbaijan combined team over Belarus combined team (6-4; 3-5; 5-4; 3-5; 6-4) and Azerbaijan team was the winner of the international brain ring tournament for the Cup of the President of Azerbaijan Republic.

At the event attended by about 20 media representatives, non-government organization executives and military experts took part. The main goal of organization of the media tour is to facilitate acquaintance of the media representatives with the opportunities established at the school to raise the military training of the students, to demonstrate training aids based to the computer technologies and to support the promotion of the methods of the training and education of the students in the patriotic spirit. Note that, the Ministry of Education and Experimental Space Instrumentation Factory of the Ministry of Defense Industry signed agreement to supply the cabinets for military training of the youth in the secondary schools (military cabinet) with the modern equipment. According to the agreement, the military cabinets of the 50 pilot schools were equipped with the military equipment, accessories and special software meeting the modern standards and considered for military training. Within the media tour, the media representatives looked at the military cabinet equipped with the new training appliances at the school and participated in pre-military training course of the youth, At the media tour, the students dismantled and assemble the weapons, neutralized mines, demonstrated the ability to use the respirators and to take an aim with simulative weapons before journalists. Shamistan Nazirli, military researcher, Mehdi Mehdiyev, chairman of the "Karabakh war disabled, veterans and families of martyrs" Public Union and Emin Hasanli, chairman of the Association for Public Control of Armed Forces highly estimated the military training of the students. The training methods based on the modern technologies will both increase the training level of the future soldiers, and have positive effect on their cultivation in patriotic spirit.

“ASAN school” established as a part of the Barda ASAN service regional center will organize admission of the first grader to the secondary schools of Barda. “ASAN school” will eliminate the loss of time and increase transparency of the process of admission of the students to the first grade. The parents applying to the "ASAN school" section review the secondary schools of Barda region on interactive board and learn the situation for admission to the first grade in the selected school. Check-up of the school training level and psychological situation of the children will also be conducted at “ASAN school”. After the child pass the commission, notification about admission to the school will be presented to both parent and local education department. Other service within the framework of the “ASAN school” is to conduct electronic certificate about workplace to those who works in pedagogical or technical fields of secondary schools. Currently, this service covers about 225 thousands employees working in public and private secondary schools. Each employee is able to get the electronic certificate about workplace without visiting the education institution where he works by applying to the “ASAN service centers” or registering in “E-Government” portal and send this certificate to the required authority via email. The next service to be conducted within “ASAN school” project is to provide electronic certificate for the pupils about educational institution they go to. This service covering more than 1,325 thousands pupils studying at the public and private secondary schools and their parents enables the parents to get the electronic certificate about the school, grade, education language and foreign language of their children without visiting the education institution by applying to the “ASAN service centers” or registering in “E-Government” portal and send this certificate to the required authority via email. “ASAN staff” carrier center established in the center provides special opportunities for the graduates of "ASAN school" volunteer program. Education Minister welcomed the guests and noted the special role of education in Azerbaijan-France ties, which are developing day by day in accordance with the high-level relations between the two countries' heads of state. The minister said that further expansion of relations between higher education institutions was the positive circumstance and he also expressed satisfaction with the efficient collaboration existing in the directions of exchange of secondary education, student and teacher. Education Minister mentioned his meeting with Alain Beretz, President of the University of Strasbourg during his visit to Paris in November last year and also drew attention to the importance of "Azerbaijani day" event, held in February this year in France. Minister underlined the importance of the development of cooperation between higher education institutions in Azerbaijan and France, as well as, drew attention to the necessity of recognition of double diplomas and expansion of mutual cooperation in the research area. Alain Beretz, President of the University of Strasbourg emphasized the role of such meetings in development of France-Azerbaijan education relations and their role in improvement of interrelations between two countries. The meeting was attended by the heads of higher education institutions of our country, as well as, other issues of mutual interest were discussed. It should be noted that during the visit to Azerbaijan on April 1-3, the delegation will visit a number of leading higher education institutions and will hold discussions on the development of bilateral education relationships.
