On 19 November, the Minister of Science and Education, Emin Amrullayev, met with the Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Salim bin Muhammad al-Malik, who is visiting our country as part of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).   During the meeting, they discussed bilateral cooperation with ISESCO and prospects for further development.   It is worth noting that Salim bin Muhammad Al-Malik also participated in the high-level panel on education at COP29 on 18 November.

On 19 November, the Minister of Science and Education, Emin Amrullayev, received a delegation from “TikTok” company.   The meeting was attended by TikTok Vice-President for Public Policy Helena Lerch, Director of the Public Policy and Corporate Relations Department for Eastern Europe Sergey Sokolov, and the company's advisor on government agencies Emin Akhundov.   During the meeting, they discussed establishing joint cooperation with “TikTok” company in the field of science and education, and exchanged views on educational initiatives and projects for the general public. Proposals for new initiatives to enable teachers to promote their educational content were also discussed. In addition, examples of educational channels run by teachers in different countries were presented and the contribution of the platform's capabilities to improving educational content was discussed.

The roundtable brought together international experts to discuss the critical role of assessments like PISA in enhancing environmental literacy among students.   Andreas Schleicher, Director for Education and Skills at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), delivered a presentation on how PISA’s new indicators can evaluate and promote climate change literacy among students. Schleicher highlighted that the indicators, initiated and proposed by Azerbaijan, aim to establish a comprehensive framework for assessing students’ environmental knowledge and problem-solving skills.   H.E. Emin Amrullayev, the Minister of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, underscored the importance of advancing climate literacy indicators globally. He stated that education must serve as a cornerstone for adapting to climate change realities, fostering resilience, and driving innovative solutions. The Minister emphasized that Azerbaijan’s proposal of these new indicators represents a bold step toward integrating climate literacy into global education systems.   The roundtable concluded with the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the OECD to evaluate students’ climate literacy within the PISA framework.   This agreement is considered a significant milestone in global efforts to integrate climate literacy into education systems, reaffirming the importance of aligning educational strategies with sustainability and environmental goals.

The meeting focused on transformative approaches in education to address climate challenges effectively.   In collaboration with UNESCO, the Ministry of Science and Education has organized a discussion platform on greening education and preparing every student for climate resilience. This discussion encompassed key components such as schools, curricula, assessment of students' knowledge and skills, and teacher training.   In his speech, H.E. Emin Amrullayev, the Minister of Science and Education, highlighted the importance of recalibrating educational frameworks to prioritize climate resilience and action. He emphasized that this involves integrating climate literacy into education standards and equipping learners with the skills to actively contribute to climate solutions.   During the discussions, it was noted that Azerbaijan's STEAM education initiative has enabled students to work on real-world projects related to green energy and sustainability.   The meeting reaffirmed the commitment to global partnerships for advancing climate-sensitive education and emphasized that future efforts would concentrate on capacity building and knowledge exchange.   As part of the event, the second annual meeting of the "Greening Education Partnership" initiative provided a dynamic platform for global education leaders to discuss strategies for integrating sustainability into education systems.

The event was organized under the Presidency of COP29 in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan, the Asian Development Bank, the Green Climate Fund, the International Labour Organization (ILO), UNESCO, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization (WHO).   The primary objective of the meeting was to underscore the critical importance of investing in human development as a fundamental pillar for ensuring climate resilience.   A key focus of the discussions was the role of education in fostering climate resilience. Participants highlighted the need to develop "climate-friendly" curricula aimed at equipping future generations with the knowledge and skills required to address climate challenges effectively.   In his opening remarks, H.E. Emin Amrullayev, the Minister of Science and Education of Azerbaijan, emphasized that building a sustainable society depends on equipping individuals with the necessary knowledge, skills, and support systems to adapt to environmental challenges. He noted that the Baku Initiative seeks to empower youth as active participants in sustainable actions to combat climate change.   As part of the meeting, Azerbaijan proposed incorporating the measurement of climate resilience knowledge into the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). This initiative was recognized as a reflection of Azerbaijan’s commitment to advancing global climate education standards.   The meeting also addressed increasing climate awareness in schools, training teachers to deliver climate-focused education, and establishing climate-resilient education systems. Additionally, strategic approaches were discussed to equip students with critical skills needed for a green economy.   The session concluded with the adoption of the Baku Human Development Climate Resilience Guiding Principles, which outline an integrated approach to addressing climate impacts and emphasize the pivotal role of education in achieving climate resilience.

On November 15, the Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev met with the representatives of “Cisco” company.    The meeting was attended by Cisco's senior vice president and chief sustainability officer Mary de Wysocki, executive director for communications and sustainability Cecilia Hughes, general manager for Turkey, Romania, CIS regions Didem Duru, general director for Azerbaijan Ramil Eyyubov and Cisco's responsible manager for the territory Farid Zeynalov.   In the course of the meeting, information was presented on the achievements made within the framework of long-term cooperation with "Cisco" company in the direction of creation of Azerbaijan Educational Network. At the same time, issues related to the expansion of network provision for educational institutions, Internet traffic management, security protection, development of digital educational contents and application of artificial intelligence solutions in education were discussed.   At the meeting, it was told about the "Cisco" Network Academy, established at Karabakh University within the framework of cooperation between the Ministry of Science and Education and the "Cisco" company. Also discussed were the issues of organizing and integrating training courses on the basic IT technologies and operating systems, the Internet of Things, programming, network technologies and security, and cyber security into curricula. There was also an exchange of views on increasing the number of such academies and integrating new technological solutions into the educational process. As a result, it was decided to expand joint activities in the areas discussed.
