    Azərbaycan SSR Xalq Komissarları Sovetinin 28 aprel 1920-ci il tarixli qərarı ilə Xalq Maarifi Nazirliyinin adı dəyişdirilərək Xalq Maarifi Komissarlığı adı ilə yenidən təşkil edilib və ölkədəki bütün təhsil müəssisələri bu qurumun tabeliyinə verilib.

Deputy Minister of Education Firudin Gurbanov visits Japan

Deputy Minister of Education Firudin Gurbanov has held several meetings as part of his visit to Japan in connection with the 30th International Olympiad in Informatics held in the city of Tsukuba. Firudin Gurbanov met with Japan`s Deputy Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Shinjiro Komatsu in Tokyo. Firudin Gurbanov highlighted education reforms carried out in Azerbaijan and the country`s achievements.   Shinjiro Komatsu expressed his interest in expanding relations between the Japanese and Azerbaijani ministries of education. The meeting featured proposals on conducting academic exchange between higher education institutions of the two countries and joint researches and trainings for teachers. They also focused on the ways of enhancing education opportunities for Azerbaijani students in Japan. Shinjiro Komatsu expressed Japan`s interest in implementing a number of projects on vocational education. He wished Azerbaijan success in hosting the 31st International Olympiad in Informatics in 2019. During his visit, Deputy Minister of Education Firudin Gurbanov also met with director of the Eastern and Central Asia, Caucasus Department of Japan International Cooperation Agency Koji Fujiya. Firudin Gurbanov provided an insight into education reforms in Azerbaijan and the country`s accomplishments. Highlighting relations with Azerbaijan, Koji Fujiya expressed Japan International Cooperation Agency`s interest in implementing economic and social programs, and projects aimed at developing human resources and vocational education.

Ilham Aliyev opened newly-built school in Lahij, Ismayilli district

  President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva have attended the opening of a newly-built secondary school in Lahij settlement, Ismayilli district. The head of state and the first lady cut the ribbon symbolizing the inauguration of the school. Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov informed President Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva that the old building of the school was constructed in 1928. Although designed for 130 pupils, the school accommodated 232 pupils. The new 400-seat school was built under the order of the President. The three-storey school features a gym and a 175-seat auditorium as well as a number of subject rooms and laboratories. The school has video surveillance and centralized heating systems.   www.president.az

President Ilham Aliyev attended opening of Meysari village secondary school in Shamakhi district

  President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva have attended the inauguration of a new building of Meysari village secondary school in Shamakhi district. The 132-seat school was built on the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. The head of state cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the school. Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov told President Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva that the school had been built in the 1950s. The construction of the new building of the school started in 2016. The new building features an auditorium, gym, different subject and foreign language rooms and fully equipped informatics center.   www.president.az

French-Azerbaijani University holds admission exam

  French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) has held admission exam. The exam featured 462 applicants out of 523, who scored more than 500 points during state examination organized by State Examination Center in the Group 1 and who applied online for UFAZ exam. The average point of the applicants who sat UFAZ exam is 597, with 262 of them scoring more than 600 points. Under its admission plan, UFAZ allocated a total of 160 places, including 120 on governmental basis and 40 on fee-paying basis. Deputy Minister of Education Firudin Gurbanov, rector of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University Mustafa Babanlı, UFAZ Executive Director Vazeh Asgarov, UFAZ Secretary General Charlotte Payen and others inspected examination process and conditions created for applicants. The two-day exam saw applicants answer 10 test questions in each of the following disciplines in the language of their study (Azerbaijani or Russian): mathematics, chemistry, physics and general knowledge, and also deal with a grammar task and write an essay in English language. UFAZ enrolls students in four disciplines: Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Geophysical Engineering, and Oil and Gas Engineering. UFAZ graduates receive dual diplomas (University of Strasbourg or University of Rennes 1 and Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University). A joint initiative to found UFAZ was put forward by the presidents of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the French Republic in September, 2014. On April 25, 2015, the presidents of the two countries signed a document on the founding of the university. On May 22, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan signed an Order on the establishment of French-Azerbaijani University. UFAZ offers a four-year study in all disciplines (the first year features preparation, with the next three years featuring major studies). The study language is English. Students are taught French starting from the first year of preparation. The study is conducted on the basis of the French program.

Minister of education meets with Twinning project delegates

On July 12, Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov met with French, Lithuanian and Latvian delegates who are visiting Baku to attend the first meeting of the steering committee of “Support to strengthening the higher education system in Azerbaijan” Twinning project. Apart from project managers, the meeting was also attended by short-term education experts from the three countries. The sides discussed what has been and will be done under the two-year Twinning project, which was launched this April.

“SABAH Graduate” ceremony

“SABAH Graduate” ceremony was held at the Baku Convention Center on July 5. Participants in the event included head of the Humanitarian Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Farah Aliyeva, head of the Youth Policy and Sport Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, assistant to the First Vice President Yusuf Mammadaliyev, Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov, members of parliament, heads of public and private organizations, rectors of higher education institutions, media captains, education experts and students. Prior to the ceremony participants viewed “I am SABAH” exhibition in the foyer of the center. The event started with the playing of the state anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and then featured the screening of a documentary on the activity of SABAH groups. Head of the Youth Policy and Sport Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, assistant to the First Vice President Yusuf Mammadaliyev read out a congratulatory letter by First Vice President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva. Addressing the event, Minister of Education Jeyhun Babayev said the development of education has been of exceptional importance to Azerbaijan at all stages. The minister said that President Ilham Aliyev`s “transformation of black gold into human capital” conception has become a crucial element of the state policy, noting that the reforms carried out in the country aim at this very target. Jeyhun Bayramov said SABAH project is an education model established taking into consideration international experience, Azerbaijan`s values and tasks facing the country. The minister highlighted the achievements of the first SABAH groups, which were established four years ago. “A total of 721 SABAH students graduated from higher education institutions in 2017. Of them 30 percent are enrolled in master degree studies in Azerbaijan, while 16 percent in foreign countries, and more than 30 percent got employment.” Jeyhun Bayramov said that in the rapidly developing world, the road to success is paved through the synthesis of professional knowledge and skills and openness to innovations. The minister wished SABAH students success. SABAH graduates – student of Baku Music Academy Vusala Babayeva and student of Azerbaijan State Economic University Samir Huseynov – highlighted the opportunities created by SABAH, saying these groups provide favorable environment for preparation of highly-qualified specialists. They said the knowledge and skills they received at SABAH groups will play a crucial role in their future career. SABAH graduates with best academic achievements received certificates, while third year students were presented with symbolic SABAH keys in the ceremony. SABAH groups` anthem then was played. SABAH groups were established in 34 specializations in 7 state higher education institutions in 2014-2015 academic year. SABAH groups now enroll more than 2300 students in more than 40 specializations in 12 higher education institutions. A total of 842 SABAH students graduated in 2017-2018 academic year.

Azerbaijani secondary school students to participate in International Biology Olympiad

Four Azerbaijani secondary school students will participate in the 29th International Biology Olympiad (IBO 2018), which will take place in the Iranian capital of Tehran from 15 to 22 July. Split into practical and theoretical stages, IBO 2018 will feature 280 secondary school students from 70 countries. Azerbaijani secondary school students have won 3 gold, 6 silver and 11 bronze medals at the International Biology Olympiad so far. The International Biology Olympiad was launched in the Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia) in 1990, featuring 22 secondary school students from 6 countries.

6 Azerbaijani secondary school students to compete in International Mathematical Olympiad

Six Azerbaijani secondary school students will participate in the 59th International Mathematical Olympiad due to be held in the city of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, from July 7 to 14. This edition of the Olympiad will feature 615 secondary school students from 116 countries. Azerbaijani secondary school students have claimed a total of 40 medals, including 8 silvers and 32 bronzes at the International Mathematical Olympiad so far. In 2017, Azerbaijani secondary school students ranked 42nd among 110 countries with 4 bronze medals. Azerbaijani secondary school students` best achievement at the Olympiad was in 2010 when they grabbed 3 silvers and 2 bronzes to finish 28th in the overall medal table. The first edition of the International Mathematical Olympiad was held in Romania in 1959, featuring 4 countries. Azerbaijani secondary school students have participated in the Olympiad since 1992.

Minister of education meets with outgoing and newly-appointed directors of British Council Azerbaijan

On June 28, Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov met with outgoing British Council Azerbaijan Director Elizabeth White and newly-appointed director Summer Xia. They hailed the development of relations between the Ministry of Education and the British Council in the field of education. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov thanked Elizabeth White and lauded her for her activities in Azerbaijan. Elizabeth White was presented with a certificate of merit of the Ministry of Education for her role in developing education in Azerbaijan and expanding Azerbaijan-UK relations in the field of education. The outgoing British Council Azerbaijan director said she is leaving the country with good impressions. She thanked Minister Jeyhun Bayramov for support provided during her tenure. The minister wished Summer Xia and Elizabeth White success in their future activities.
