Minister of Science and Education makes official visit to Istanbul

A delegation from the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan met with Erol Ozvar, chairman of the Turkish Council of Higher Education, and Ismail Koyuncu, Rector of Istanbul Technical University, at Marmara University on 24 April as part of a visit to Istanbul.   New areas of cooperation in the field of higher education between Azerbaijan and Turkey were discussed at the meeting, and an agreement was reached on joint projects and joint programs between the universities.

President and First Lady attended inauguration of newly-built school in Neftchala district

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva have attended the opening of the 420-seat Banka settlement No. 2 secondary school built by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in the Neftchala district.   The head of state and the First Lady were informed of the conditions created in the school.   The three-storey school consists of five buildings. The school has 18 classrooms, labs, a library, a canteen, an assembly hall and a gym.   Landscaping work was carried out, green areas were laid out in the yard of the school.   https://president.az

Standards and guidelines for quality assurance in higher education discussed

On April 17, with the organizational support of the Education Quality Assurance Agency (EQAA), Azerbaijan hosted a collegial consultation meeting entitled "Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance Agencies in the European Higher Education Area".   The meeting, organized for the first time in the country's higher education system, was attended by Douglas Blackstock, President of the Association for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area, and Colin Tück, Director of the European Quality Assurance Registry for Higher Education.   In her opening speech, Ulkar Sattarova, Chairperson of the EQAA Board, briefed participants on the work done on external quality assurance, the results achieved and the plans for the future.   In his speech, the Minister of Science and Education, Emin Amrullayev, emphasised the importance of studying international standards and practices to ensure external quality and brought to the attention of the event participants the results achieved towards the integration of the Azerbaijani educational space into the European Higher Education Area and forthcoming issues.   On the first day of the event, speakers touched on quality assurance in higher education. They also touched on stakeholder involvement in this area, higher education in Azerbaijan, and other similar issues.   It should be noted that the two-day event will continue tomorrow.

Brilliant victory at the 12th European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad

The 12th European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) was held from 13th to 19th April in Portorož, Slovenia. Our country was represented by 4 students at the Olympiad, which was attended by 213 students from 57 countries.   Our students performed well in the Olympics, winning 1 gold, 1 bronze medal and 2 recognition awards.   Thus, Fidan Garayeva, a student of 11th grade of the Physics, Mathematics and Informatics biased lyceum under the Ministry of Science and Education, has won a gold medal, Sevinj Mahmudova a student of 10th grade of the Baku Turkish Lyceum “Turkiya Diyanat Vagfi” has won a bronze medal and Fidan Jafarli and Safura Ramizgizy, 11th grade students from the same lyceum, received a certificate for the “Encouragement Award”.   It should be noted that Fidan Garayeva was among 14 contestants who achieved the highest results in the competition, scoring all 42 points.   We congratulate our students on this occasion and wish them new successes!  

Minister of Science and Education meets with the newly appointed ambassador of France to the Republic of Azerbaijan

On 12 April, the Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev held a courtesy meeting with the newly-appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of France to Azerbaijan Anne Bouillon.   During the meeting the current state of relations between Azerbaijan and France in the field of education and the prospects for future cooperation were discussed.

Minister of Science and Education meets with delegates of African National Commission for UNESCO

Emin Amrullayev, the minister of science and education, met with delegates of the African National Commission for UNESCO on April 10. The meeting took place within the framework of the “Empowerment” program, jointly organized by the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO and ADA University.   During the meeting, opportunities for joint cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and African countries within the framework of UNESCO were discussed. The delegates of the African National Commission for UNESCO were briefed of our nation's efforts toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals as well as the fruitful outcomes obtained in this regard. Emin Amrullayev stated that the Azerbaijani side was willing to share its present knowledge of maintaining quality and accessibility at all educational levels.

The meeting of the Minister of Science and Education was held

On April 6, Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev met with Nuno Querios, acting the powers of the resident representative of the Representative Office of the United Nations Development Program in Azerbaijan.   During the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the current situation in the example of the projects implemented in the field of education, especially in the field of vocational education, between the Ministry of Science and Education and the Development Program of the United Nations, and the development prospects of the existing cooperation were discussed.

Deputy Minister of Science and Education attends 6th meeting of the Scientific Council of the International Turkic Academy

The Deputy Minister of Science and Education, Idris Isayev, took part in the 6th meeting of the Scientific Council of the International Turkic Academy in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic.   Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Minister highly appreciated the contribution of activities supported by the International Turkic Academy in enhancing cooperation in the field of education among member countries. Idris Isayev noted the importance of exchange of students and teachers between Turkish states as well as the development of joint textbooks.   As part of the 6th meeting of the Scientific Council of the International Turkic Academy, Idris Isayev also met with the Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kanybek Imanaliyev. During the meeting, they discussed the prospects for developing the existing cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of education and also emphasized the importance of exchanging experiences in areas of mutual interest.   The Deputy Minister also met with the President of the International Turkic Academy Shahin Mustafayev. Issues of joint cooperation between the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan and the International Turkiс Academy were discussed at the meeting.

The delegation led by the Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev is on visit to France.   On the 27th of March, the Azerbaijani Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev met with the Rector of the University of Strasbourg Prof. Michel Deneken. The sides discussed strengthening cooperation in science and education, development of cooperation in the field of scientific research and exchange of students.   The meeting also included a presentation on the development prospects of the Azerbaijani-French University (UFAZ) for 2024-2030.   During the two-day visit, the delegation visited various scientific laboratories and research centers at the University of Strasbourg and met UFAZ students who are currently undertaking an internship at the university.   It should be noted that UFAZ was established in 2014 at the initiative of the presidents of Azerbaijan and France. UFAZ, as part of a consortium run by the Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry and the French University of Strasbourg, awards dual diplomas to graduates.

Minister of Education and Science of Georgia at the opening of STEAM centre in Gakh district

On March 15, the Georgian Minister of Education and Science Mikheil Chkhenkeli, who is on a working visit to our country, together with Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev attended the opening ceremony of STEAM Centre at a school-lyceum No.2 named after N. Allahverdiyev in Gakh city.   Musa Shakiliyev, Head of the Executive Power of Gakh district, Faig Guliyev, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Georgia, Zurab Pataradze, Georgian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, also participated in the event. The guests first visited the monument to the great leader Heydar Aliyev and laid flowers in front of the monument.   The guests were then acquainted with the conditions created at the school-lyceum. Emin Amrullayev and Mikhail Chhenkeli familiarized themselves with the teaching process in the Azerbaijani and Georgian sections of the school and talked to the teachers and students. The school-lyceum reportedly has 32 Azeri, 11 Russian and 10 Georgian classes, with a total of 53 classes. Together with the preschool preparatory groups, 946 students study at the educational institution, 157 teachers are engaged in their training.   During the acquaintance with the newly opened STEAM Center at the school- lyceum, the guests were told that STEAM has been taught at this educational institution for 3 years already. Fully equipped with innovative technologies, the center is designed for use by all age groups, it has zones for science, zones of "Logo System" for younger pupils, CNC mechatronics and 3D printing, and drone directions.   The Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullaev, and his Georgian counterpart then visited the village of Alibeyli, where Georgians live, and visited the Shota Rustaveli secondary school, where education is conducted in the Georgian language. It was reported that the educational institution had been reconstructed and commissioned in 2019 in accordance with a relevant order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr Ilham Aliyev. The 216-seat school building, built to modern standards, has along with classrooms 11 subject cabinets, 2 laboratories, 2 technology rooms, computer and pre military preparatory rooms, as well as a canteen, assembly and sports halls and auxiliary premises. There are 30 teachers for 158 pupils in the school.   The schoolchildren then performed national dances of Azerbaijan and Georgia and performed musical numbers.   At the end of the visit, the guests took a commemorative photo with pupils and teachers.
