The Minister of Education meets with the Olympic winners

On October 2, a meeting was held with the winners of the International Subject Olympiad for the 2020-2021 academic year with the participation of the Minister of Education Emin Amrullayev.   The meeting was attended by 24 winners of international subject Olympiads and heads of Olympic preparation teams.   Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Education Emin Amrullayev expressed confidence that every young member of the Olympic movement will become the best specialist in the country in the future. The Minister said that young people with special talents should be able to direct their skills in the right direction. At the end of his speech, the Minister of Education congratulated the winners and wished them success.   Then the winners of the Olympics were presented with gifts.   It should be noted that last year, our students won a total of 53 medals - 6 gold, 15 silver, 32 bronze, 10 incentive prizes in Olympiads of different scales for different age groups.

The Second International Forum on "New Challenges in Education" has started.

The Second International Forum on New Challenges in Education took place on 1 October.   In his opening speech at the forum, the Minister of Education Emin Amrullayev highly appreciated the importance of the forum, thanked the organizers and speakers and noted that the issues to be discussed at the forum would contribute greatly to Azerbaijani education. Conveying his congratulations to teachers on the occasion of the International Teachers' Day, the Education Minister stressed the importance of sharing different ideas.   Noting that the education process in Azerbaijan is facing new realities, the Education Minister Emin Amrullayev said that new opportunities were created in the post-conflict period, and opportunities for providing the present generation with good education were expanded.  The Minister also spoke about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the education process. He considered the use of new technologies as a positive development.   At the end of his speech, the Minister wished success to the forum.   Then, Jafar Mansimi, coordinator of the T-Network educators' experience and communication platform informed about the goals and objectives of the international forum. It was noted that the forum dedicated to the International Teachers' Day is guided by the “Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development” adopted by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev and the document "Education in accordance with the requirements of the XXI century."   The international forum was attended by Andreas Schleicher, director of the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), Philip Kotler, distinguished professor, writer, researcher and author of the bestsellers, Michael Fullan, professor emeritus at the University of Toronto and creator of the theory of "Deep Learning", Anant Agarwal, founder of the world-renowned edX platform and MIT professor, Asra Cohen, psychologist, writer, bestselling author in Turkey and Italy, Sal Khan, founder of the globally recognized "Khan Academy". They made presentations and shared their experiences.   The International forum under the title of ”From Initiative to Application"  covered the topics of virtual education, international assessment, leadership, 21st century skills and sustainable development.   It should be noted that the 2nd International Forum "New Challenges in Education" was organized by the T-Network educators' experience and communication platform and the Institute of Education, with the support of the Ministry of Education, Azerbaijan Young Teachers Association, the “One Volunteer” Student Cooperation Public Union. The information partner of the forum is "Azerbaijan teacher" newspaper and" Azerbaijan school " magazine.

Azerbaijani Education Minister meets with newly appointed head of UNICEF Representation in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

On the 1st of October, Education Minister Emin Amrullayev has met with Alex Heikens, the newly appointed head of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) office in Azerbaijan.   The current state of cooperation relations between the Ministry of Education and UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) office in Azerbaijan in the field of education and prospects for future cooperation were discussed at the meeting.

The Ministry of Education and “QS Quacquarelli Symonds” rating agency have started mutual cooperation

An agreement on mutual cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Education and the international rating agency “QS Quacquarelli Symonds” on September 30.   At the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education Firudin Gurbanov said that this agreement is in accordance with the “State program on increasing the international competitiveness of the higher education system in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2019-2023” approved by the relevant decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev.  According to the Deputy Minister, the main purpose of the program, based on the advanced achievements of science and innovative educational technologies, is to ensure the training of a new generation of competitive professionals in higher education institutions of the country. Firudin Gurbanov noted that cooperation with the international rating agency “QS Quacquarelli Symonds” is an important step in addressing the task set by the President.   Sergey Khristolubov, Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of “QS Quacquarelli Symonds” rating agency, stressed that special attention is paid to increasing the sustainability of Azerbaijani higher education institutions in global competition.   It should be noted that on the basis of the agreement, it was agreed to increase the sustainability of Azerbaijani universities in global competition, strengthen the international recognition of the country's educational programs and increase the prestige of national education in academic circles and among  recruiters. According to the signed document, leading universities of Azerbaijan will gain access to the private data and analytical information of the international rating agency “QS Quacquarelli Symonds”, which will allow them to form a strategy for academic reputation, reputation among employers, publishing activity, internationalization and participation in the online environment.

On September 28, Minister of Education Emin Amrullayev held an online meeting with Andreas Schleicher, Special Adviser on Education Policy to the Secretary-General at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), creator and director of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).    Prospects of cooperation, including the results of PISA for Azerbaijan and their development trends were discussed at the meeting.   It should be noted that Andreas Schleicher will make a keynote speech at the 2nd International Forum on "New Challenges in Education",  which will be held on the 1st of October with the participation of many world-class experts.

International conference on "Designing education from a post-COVID-19 and the 4th Industrial Revolution perspectives» was held

On September 24, an international conference on “Designing education from a post-COVID-19 and the 4th Industrial Revolution perspectives” was held. The main partners of the conference, organised by the Heydar Aliyev Centre, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Agriculture, are the Azerbaijan State Tourism Agency, the “Regional Development” Public Union, the Azerbaijan Futurologists Society’s branch of the Millennium Project in the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Baku Media Centre. In his opening speech at the conference held at the Heydar Aliyev Center, Minister of Agriculture Inam Karimov noted that the post-COVID period  differs from the pre-pandemic period not only with changes in social behavior, but also with the fact that technologies play a greater role in our lives than before. He noted that the question of what education should be in terms of the 4th industrial revolution in the post-COVID era has great relevance. Tair Mirkishili, chairman of the National Assembly Committee on Economic Policy, Industry and Entrepreneurship, spoke about digital transformation. He said that the area where there was the most serious conservatism in digital transformation in the world was the field of education. For this reason, education design from the perspective of the 4th industrial revolution is important.   In his speech, Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Rashad Nabiev noted that it is important to be open to innovations. In the world this is called learning new knowledge. It is important how fast we are adapting to new situations.   The Minister of labour and social protection of population Sahil Babayev noted that the 4th Industrial Revolution, the digital transformation have increased the need for new professions. According to the Minister, we need professionals who can carry out the digital transformation in a very serious way.   Then, in his speech, сhairman of the State Tourism Agency Fuad Nagiyev noted that education in any field has always been of special importance. Expanding educational opportunities and responding to modern challenges play an important role in the development of society and the state.   In his speech, Deputy Minister of Education Idris Isayev noted that the topic under discussion was very relevant. The Deputy Minister noted that the conduct of online learning during the pandemic had led to an increase in the digital skills of both educators and learners. This encouraged the continuation of the existing approach in the post-pandemic period. The positive trends observed during the pandemic period will also continue during the post-pandemic period. In this audience there are people who have acquired their digital skills in different ways and in different places. These people can apply different applications. Acquiring, retraining these skills, making them an integral part of the life-long learning chain, and aligning them with the demands of the digital economy are among the important issues.   Israeli ambassador to Azerbaijan George Dick noted the theme of the conference was in line with the day's challenges. He said that the aligning of knowledge and skills with the capabilities of technologies gives an additional advantage in the competitive environment.   The conference then continued with panel sessions. International experts from more than 20 countries took the floor during the panel sessions in an online format. Participants discussed the impact of digital transformation on education, agrarian sector, communications and technology, and the labour market.   The participants of the international conference also discussed topics such as “Industry 4.0 and new educational technologies”, “Knowledge Management”, “Digital Agriculture”, “Economic digitization”, “Artificial intelligence and ethics”, “Digital Age: impact on the economy and education system”, and “New professions in the digital age”. International speakers made presentations on ”Reconstruction of the labor market on the basis of new digital education requirements“, ”Current global classes for training professionals in the period of 4th Industrial Revolution“,"A new educational path for the 4th Industrial Revolution and the Internet of Things (IoT)”, ” Improving the quality of online education"," Inter-state cooperation supports the initiative on the 4th Industrial Revolution “.   It should be noted that the purpose of the international conference is to convey to the public the importance of taking the necessary measures for the formation of knowledge and skills in line with the changes taking place in various sectors of economy in connection with the new format of education that would emerge with the effects and challenges of the 4th industrial revolution.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva have attended the opening of a new 1560-seat building of Baku European Lyceum in the capital`s White City.   Minister of Education Emin Amrullayev informed President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva of the conditions created at the building.   The construction of the building started in 2020.
