The Ministry of Education continues the massive sporting events, dedicated to the promotion of 14 kinds of sports, included in the program of the Baku 2015 First European Games among schoolchildren.
Within the framework of these events, the zonal table tennis competition was held in Ganja. The teams, consisting of boys and girls, from Tovuz, Shamkir, Gadabay, Dashkasan, Samukh, Goranboy, Barda regions and Ganja city competed in the zonal table tennis competition, held at Ganja Olympic Sports Complex, among schoolchildren. In the artistic part of the event, the athletes, dance groups demonstrated exemplary performances and the musical concert was organized. The team from Ganja won 1st and 3rd places and the team from Samukh region took 2nd place among girls in team score. The teams of Ganja city, Samukh and Dashkasan regions won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively among boys in team score. Another sporting event was held at the base of the Ganja branch of the Republican Sports Center "Tehsil". More than 100 athletes, representing Tovuz, Shamkir, Gazakh, Gadabay, Goranboy, Goygol, Samukh, Barda, Dashkasan regions and Ganja city, competed in the zonal athletics competition. The teams of Ganja city, Barda and Shamkir regions won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in team score. The representatives of the Ministry of Education, local executive bodies and sports community attended the opening ceremony of the competitions. The winners were awarded with diplomas and medals of the Ministry of Education.

We continue to introduce the athletes, who will take part in the first European Games, from sports schools operating under the Ministry of Education.
24 of athletes, who will represent our country at the First European Games, are the graduates of children and youth sports schools operating under the Ministry of Education and the coach-teachers working in these schools. They will compete in 7 sports (athletics, acrobatic gymnastics, badminton, fencing, sambo, freestyle wrestling, table tennis). Rasim Babayev is the graduate of the Republic Specialized Olympic Reserves Child-Youth Sports School no.1 of “Təhsil” Republic Sports Center. He is the two-time Azerbaijan Champion in the shot put and a member of the European Youth Olympic Festival, a record holder among teenagers in the shot put. He is studying at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Training and Sports. Alexandra Biryukova is the graduate of the Specialized Olympic Reserves Child-Youth Athletics School no.5 of Baku. A.Biryukova is one of the participants of the Azerbaijan championship and is engaged in the high jump. Narmin Ramazanova is eighth grade student. N.Ramazanova, engaged in acrobatic gymnastics, is the winner of the national championship, the bronze prize-winner in an international tournament in Minsk and the member of the European Championship. She is the graduate of the Specialized Olympic Reserves Child-Youth Gymnastics School of the Ministry of Education. Abdulla Hasanov is the graduate of the Specialized Olympic Reserves Child-Youth Sports School no.8 of Baku city Education Department. A.Hasanov, engaged in fencing, is the winner of Azerbaijan and Baku championships and the bronze prize-winner of the international tournament in Georgia. Amil Gasimov is the graduate of Children and Youth Sports School No. 1 of Ganja. A.Qasımov, studying at Ganja State University, is European and world Champion in sambo among men.

On May 7, Azerbaijan-Vietnam Friendship Forum started its work at ADA University with the support of the Ministry of Education.
Prior to the forum, the participants visited the grave of national leader Heydar Aliyev, laid a wreath at the monument. Then they laid flowers to the tomb of the well-known scientist-ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva and also visited the Alley of Martyrs. Vietnamese citizens, who have graduated from higher educational institutions of Azerbaijan in 1970-80s, Members of Parliament, employees of the Ministry of Education, the heads of higher education institutions, Vietnamese students currently studying in Azerbaijan and others attended the Forum. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mikayil Jabbarov, the Minister of Education, said that the initiative to hold the forum was put forward by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev within the framework of his first official visit to Vietnam on May 18-19, 2014, during a meeting with Vietnamese alumni of Azerbaijani universities. The Minister underlined that there are historical relations between the two countries and the visits of Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh to Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan's national leader Heydar Aliyev to Vietnam in the second half of the twentieth century play a crucial role in strengthening these ties. The Minister of Education mentioned that more than two thousand citizens of Vietnam had studied in Azerbaijan so far and the appointment of them to posts of responsibility in political, economic, military, scientific and educational fields in Vietnam showed that the higher education system of Azerbaijan is able to train qualified personnel. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the forum, Ngo Duc Manh, Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Vietnamese Parliament, noted that Azerbaijan provided a lot of support in the difficult days of Vietnam and hundreds of Vietnamese made a great contribution to the development of Vietnam by studying in the leading higher education institutions of Azerbaijan. He also said that the first official visit of the President of Azerbaijan Republic to Vietnam in 2014 played an important role in the expansion of relations between the two countries. Ngo Duc Manh mentioned that the Vietnamese delegation was very happy to visit Azerbaijan many years later and expressed his gratitude to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the initiative to hold this forum. Forum will continue its work in sessions, devoted to current state of relations and prospects of further cooperation between Azerbaijan and Vietnam in the political, inter-parliamentary, energy and education spheres. It should be noted that during the visit to Baku, the Vietnamese delegation visited Baku State University and Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, from which they had graduated, and held meetings with former teachers on May 6.

Support measures for the Baku 2015 First European Games were held by "SABAH volunteer" program in higher education institutions.
The measures, implemented within the framework of "SABAH Volunteer Week", covered nearly 200 students from 7 higher education institutions, in which SABAH groups operate. Sports and intellectual competitions, contests, organized on the basis of the ideas of "SABAH Volunteer" program, create favorable conditions for the efficient organization of the students' leisure time, the development of their management skills and leadership potential, and creative thinking without leaving education. Within the framework of "SABAH Volunteer Week", the events such as volleyball championship, football championship and art exhibition, football championship and cycling trip, football championship and "Brain Ring" contest, "Recognize your talent with SABAH" contest, the leadership training, "Mafia" game were held respectively at Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Azerbaijan Architecture and Construction University, Azerbaijan Technical University, Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, Baku State University, Azerbaijan University of Languages, Azerbaijan State Economic University. It should also be noted that SABAH groups have been organized from Educated, Skilled and Trained students studying at higher education institutions under the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan Republic in order to improve the quality of education in higher education, to ensure personnel training in accordance with modern requirements and to create the new environment in the higher education system. On May 7, the event was held with the organizational support of the Ministry of Education, the Main State Traffic Police Department of Ministry of Internal Affairs and Non-school Education Center No.46 of Baku at children's campus of the center.
The representatives of the Ministry of Education and the Main State Traffic Police Department, "Be closed to life" group representatives, nearly 100 students of general education institutions in Baku attended the event on the theme "Traffic rules: remember and follow". Persons, speaking at the event, emphasized the importance of learning and following the traffic rules from the early years. It was noted that the conduction of regular trainings on traffic rules and the organization of enlightening events among the teachers of schools and pre-school education institutions for the prevention of road accidents are the main factors that prevent undesirable incidents encountered by children on the road. Students performed poems and songs, dedicated to the traffic rules and traffic police. Schoolchildren, dressed in special uniforms, participated in the interactive, educational, active and didactic games. In the end, the children performed the skits on traffic rules and drove around the town in small cars.

On May 7, Mikayil Jabbarov, the Minister of Education, met with veterans, who took part in the World War II, in connection with the 70th anniversary of the victory over fascism at a full secondary school no. 23 of Baku city.
The meeting was attended by veterans who worked in scientific institutions, various secondary and higher educational institutions of our country. Congratulating the veterans on the upcoming Victory Day (the 9th of May), the Minister emphasized the role of these people in achieving victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Talking about the teaching activities of war veterans, Mikayil Jabbarov highly appreciated their contribution to the Azerbaijani science and education. The Minister recalled Azerbaijan's role in the victory over fascism in World War II and said that our nation showed great heroism at the front and the rare. Stressing the importance of the Baku oil in the victory, the Minister of Education noted that the selfless labor of Azerbaijani oil workers deserves the highest respect. Noting that President Ilham Aliyev pays great attention and care to war veterans, Mikayil Jabbarov said that a series of events related to informing the younger generation about Victory Day and this historical event were held in educational institutions. Speaking about the difficult and honorable paths of battle, their teaching activities in peacetime, the veterans expressed satisfaction with the development of independent Azerbaijan. They underlined the importance of reforms in the field of education and noted the significance of attention paid to science and education in modern times. In the end, memorable gifts were presented to war veterans.

The teams from Astara, Lankaran, Masalli, Yardimli, Lerik, Jalilabad, Bilasuvar, Salyan and Jabrail districts competed for the first place in the zonal competition, held at Astara Olympic Sports Complex. The teams of Lankaran, Salyan and Astara regions won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in team score. Another sporting event took place in Yevlakh region. The zonal basketball competition among schoolchildren was held in Yevlakh. The teams from Yevlakh, Barda, Agdam, Shamkir, Tovuz, Goygol regions and Ganja city attended the competition. The teams of Ganja, Goygol and Yevlakh won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in team score. The zonal taekwondo competition was held in Agjabadi district. Nearly 100 boys and girls from Agjabadi, Saatli, Beylagan, Lachin, Khojavand, Ujar, Imishli regions competed in the weight category 29-59 kg. in the competition, held at the Regional Taekwondo Center in Agjabadi. The teams of Agjabadi, Zardab and Ujar districts won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in team score. Athletes competed in 5 weight categories in both styles of wrestling in the wrestling competition, held at Khachmaz Olympic Sports Complex. Nearly 150 wrestlers from Khachmaz, Guba, Gusar, Shabran, Khizi, Siyazan, Gobustan, Absheron, Gubadly districts and Sumgait city joined the fight for the title of winner. The teams of Khachmaz, Absheron and Siyazan won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in team score. The representatives of the Ministry of Education, local executive bodies and sports community attended the opening ceremony of the competitions. The winners were awarded with diplomas and medals of the Ministry of Education. It should be noted that these competitions are held in 14 kinds of sports (cycling, volleyball, table tennis, taekwondo, karate, wrestling, beach soccer, judo, boxing, basketball, badminton, track and field athletics, acrobatics and rhythmic gymnastics) included in the program of the Baku 2015 First European Olympic Games. The 32nd Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (BMO 2015) was held in Athens, Greece, from 3rd of May to 8th of May 2015.
Azerbaijani schoolchildren participated at the Olympiad, attended by 130 pupils from 21 different countries, including England, Italy, Iran, Turkey, Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia and others. 3 pupils among Azerbaijani schoolchildren won a bronze medal and one of them took the stimulating place in mathematics at the Olympiad. Thus, Mohammad Shirinov, 10th grade student from Baku, Ismat Agayev, 11th grade student from Guba, and Tahir Nadirov, 10th grade student from Guba, were awarded the bronze medal, Mirali Ahmadli, 9th grade student from Ganja, was awarded the incentive certificate at the Olympiad. According to information provided by the team leader Fuad Garayev, the Organizing Committee of the Olympiad praised the performance of our students and expressed congratulations and kind words, addressed to the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It should be noted that students-candidates, who will participate in the 56th International Mathematical Olympiad in the second half of May, will be selected among the distinguished students in the final stage of the Republican subject Olympiads and training camp began with candidate team in May and June.

On May 8, the Ministry of Education organized a blood donation campaign in full secondary school no. 202 of Baku city.
The employees of the Ministry actively participated in the campaign, held on the occasion of International Thalassemia Day – the 8th of May. During the campaign, doctors-gematologs of the mobile medical team of Central Blood Bank of Scientific Research Institute of Gematology and Blood Transfusion named after Bahadur Eyvazov checked the health status of donors and hereinafter, took blood in the appropriate order. The collected blood samples will be examined in the laboratory and will be included in Central Blood Bank in order to use in the treatment of patients with inherited blood disorders. The campaign was organized to support measures taken for the implementation of the State Program "Take care of children suffering from hemophilia and thalassemia" approved by the appropriate Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev.

I.Aliyev, engaged in the shot put, won 2nd place in Azerbaijan Championship and 3rd place in Cup of Azerbaijan. Alyona Setina is engaged in athletics. A.Setina, the participant of Azerbaijan and Baku championships, is the graduate of the Specialized Olympic Reserves Child-Youth Athletics School no.5 of Baku. Yekaterina Sariyeva is the graduate of the Specialized Olympic Reserves Child-Youth Athletics School no.5 of Baku. Y.Sariyeva, engaged in triple long jump, is the gold medalist of the Islamic Games and the silver medalist of the European tournament. She is a student of the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Training and Sports. Aynur Huseynova is the graduate of the Specialized Olympic Reserves Child-Youth Gymnastics School of the Ministry of Education. A.Huseynova, studying at Baku Pedagogical College, is engaged in acrobatic gymnastics. She is the winner of the Republican Championship and the bronze medalist of the international tournament, held in Minsk. She also won 5th place in the European Championship.
