The final round of chess tournament, jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and the Republican Committee of Independent Trade Union of Azerbaijan Education Employees, was attended by 70 teachers, who won district and city stages of the competition. According to the results of the final competition, organized on the Olympic system, Imran Kalbiyev, teacher at Chayrud village full secondary school of Lerik district won first place, Sultan Rzayev, teacher at Sadarak village full secondary school No.1 of Sadarak district of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic won second place, Anar Bagishov, teacher at Jalilabad city full secondary school No.4 took third place. The winners and active participants were awarded with diplomas and cash prizes. It should be noted that this competition was organized in accordance with the joint decision of the Ministry of Education and the Republican Committee of Independent Trade Union of Azerbaijan Education Employees about holding the chess tournament among teachers of general education institutions in order to promote chess, to spend leisure time effectively and to celebrate widely the 92nd birth anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev. The first stage of the competition was held in general education institutions until March 10 and the second stage of this competition was held in the cities and regions until April 10.

The main goal of the contest is to organize the leisure time of pupils and students of the first vocational and specialized secondary educational institutions, to identify talented young people, to improve culture of performance of youth, to instill love for music, poetry, dance in them, to develop work, carried out in order to study works of Azerbaijani composers, folk songs and national dances, to enhance the national-spiritual and aesthetic upbringing of the young generation. The jury composed of prominent cultural and art figures in each category was established in order to arrange the competition in an orderly way and at a high level. The competition was held in 2 phases. 74 pupils and students, taking 1st and 2nd places in each category in the zonal stage, participated in the Republic phase, held at Baku Social Pedagogical College. 21 people were awarded 1st place, 13 people were awarded 2nd place, 10 people were awarded 3d place and 7 people were awarded the title of an active participant in the contest. The awarding ceremony and the final concert of competition winners will be held at the Azerbaijan State Song Theatre on May 19. The first, second, and third place winners in each category and the active participants of the competition will be awarded with diplomas and valuable prizes by the Ministry of Education.

Within the framework of these events, the zonal karate, taekwondo, boxing competitions were respectively held in Baku, Guba and Bilasuvar. More than 300 athletes from Baku competed in Shotokan and Goju-ryu styles of karate in the zonal competition, held at Hovsan Olympic Sports Complex. The teams of Nasimi, Khatai and Sabail districts took 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in Shotokan style of karate. The teams of Nizami, Khatai and Garadagh districts took 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in Goju-ryu style of karate. The zonal taekwondo competition was held in Guba district. The teams of Guba, Gusar, Khachmaz, Shabran, Siyazan, Khizi, Absheron districts and Sumgait city were represented in the competition, held at Guba Olympic Sports Complex. The teams consisting of boys and girls competed in 9 weight categories. The teams of Gusar, Guba districts and Sumgait city won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively among girls in team score. The teams of Guba district, Sumgait city and Gusar district won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively among boys in team score. The zonal boxing competitions were launched in Bilasuvar district. The zonal competition, held at Bilasuvar Olympic Sports Complex, was attended by the teams from Bilasuvar, Masalli, Lankaran, Astara, Jalilabad and Neftchala districts. In the competition the athletes competed in the weight category of 34-54 kg. The teams of Jalilabad, Neftchala and Bilasuvar districts won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in team score. The winners of the zonal competitions were awarded with diplomas and medals of the Ministry of Education.

Firudin Gurbanov, Deputy Minister of Education, the heads of out-of-school educational institutions and the representatives of the sports community attended the ceremony. At the ceremony, Firudin Gurbanov, Deputy Minister of Education, provided detailed information about the zonal competitions. F.Gurbanov said that the Ministry of Education holds the zonal competitions, covering all regions of the country, in order to promote 14 kinds of sports, included in the program of the first European Games, among schoolchildren, to direct pupils to a healthy lifestyle and to increase the role of physical education and sports in the patriotic upbringing of the pupils. The zonal competitions, held in 14 kinds of sports, included in the program of the Baku 2015 First European Olympic Games, will continue until the end of May. More than 6 thousand students are expected to participate in competitions. Deputy Minister mentioned that such massive sporting events had been held till now in more than 10 regions within the framework of the zonal competitions, started on April 21, and he also highly appreciated the activity of schoolchildren. The deputy minister noted that such a massive sporting event, covering the whole country, is held among schoolchildren for the first time. These competitions not only encourage pupils in sports, but also create favorable conditions for the expansion of relations among pupils and the holding of sports tournaments on a regular basis. In accordance with the rules of the International Table Tennis Federation, about 100 tennis players compete in the competition. The zonal tennis competition, started in Baku, will be continued from May 1 to 3 in Salyan, from May 5 to 7 in Ganja, from May 13 to 15 in Shirvan, from May 17 to 19 in Sumgait, from May 21 to 23 in Sheki. The competition entitled "SABAH LIVE" is held through the official Facebook page of SABAH groups. This competition has been organized with an aim of demonstrating the activity of "SABAH volunteer" and the creativity of volunteers. The winner of the competition, held to support the First European Games, has been determined through a selection process carried out in 2 phases. In the first stage, 12 amateur videos (these videos were prepared by volunteers), expressing support of "SABAH Volunteer" for the Baku 2015 First European Games, were posted on the official Facebook page of SABAH groups. The amateur videos, presented in the first stage of a five-day competition, have received more than 3100 likes and 11 600 views. 5 most liked and watched videos have been presented to the jury. By the decision of the jury, representing 7 higher education institutions, the amateur video (to watch the video clip:http://goo.gl/eFLKPD), prepared by the authorship of Ramal Veliyev, approved by 422 Facebook users and received more than 1000 views, has been selected as winner of “SABAH LIVE”. The winner of the competition will be awarded with ticket to the opening ceremony of the Baku 2015 First European Games in "Volunteer Town" to be organized by "SABAH Volunteer". It should be noted that "SABAH volunteer" program, carried out with the participation of students of SABAH groups, plays a significant role in increasing the social activity and applying knowledge to practice, as well as developing management skills and leadership potential of students without leaving the academic training and by involving students in voluntary activity. The zonal competition, held at Sumgayit Olympic Sports Complex, was attended by the teams of Absheron, Khachmaz, Khizi, Guba districts and Sumgait city. The team from Absheron district won the first place in the competition. The teams from Sumgait city took 2nd and 3rd places in the contest. Another sporting event took place at the Olympic Sports Complex in Masalli. The zonal judo competition among schoolchildren was held in Masalli. The competition was attended by the teams of Masalli, Shirvan, Salyan, Lankaran and Yardimli regions. The main objective of the project is to ensure the formation of rich imaginations about the university libraries in students and to create favorable conditions for providing them with additional knowledge, as well as to allow schoolchildren to familiarize with the university libraries. 9th-11th grade students (only 8 students from each education institution), selected from Lyceum named after Heydar Aliyev, Educational complex No. 132 -134, Baku Turkish Diyanet Vakfi lyceum and Lyceum of Young Talents, got acquainted with the library of ADA University within the framework of the project. Martha Spirz, the dean of ADA University Library, gave detailed information about the library, led by him, and expressed his opinions about the possibility of using electronic and traditional resources. Pupils shared their impressions about ADA University Library and conducted the evaluation on pre-defined criteria. It should be noted that students of general education institutions are expected to visit the libraries of 6 universities. At the end of the project, higher education institutions will be evaluated by students in terms of capabilities and reader satisfaction of libraries and necessary improving proposals will be made in this sphere. As well as, after getting acquainted with libraries of higher education institutions, students will be able to share information they have obtained on library science, information exchange, the history of libraries and bibliographic work with their peers.
