On April 21, the Ministry of Education launched the zonal competitions in 14 kinds of sports (cycling, volleyball, table tennis, taekwondo, karate, wrestling, beach soccer, judo, boxing, basketball, badminton, track and field athletics, acrobatics and rhythmic gymnastics) included in the program of the Baku 2015 First European Olympic Games.

These competitions, organized within the framework of the agitation campaign, conducted on the eve of the first European Games, will continue until the end of May. More than 6 thousand students are expected to participate in competitions. The main objective of zonal competitions is to promote 14 kinds of sports, included in the program of the first European Games, among schoolchildren, to direct pupils to a healthy lifestyle and to increase the role of physical education and sports in the patriotic upbringing of the pupils. The winners of the zonal competitions will be awarded with diplomas and valuable gifts by the Ministry of Education.

On April 21, the zonal wrestling competition among schoolchildren began at the Olympic Sports Complex in Shirvan.

The representatives of the Ministry of Education, local executive bodies and sports community attended the opening ceremony of the competition. It should be noted that this competition took place within the framework of the zonal competitions among schoolchildren in 14 kinds of sports (cycling, volleyball, table tennis, taekwondo, karate, wrestling, beach soccer, judo, boxing, basketball, badminton, track and field athletics, acrobatics and rhythmic gymnastics) included in the program of the Baku 2015 First European Olympic Games. Wrestlers competed in 5 weight categories (freestyle: 26, 32, 38, 47, 59 kg., Greco-Roman wrestling: 23, 29, 35, 42, 53 kg.) in both styles during the zonal competition. 160 wrestlers from Hajigabul, Shirvan, Sabirabad, Saatli, Kurdamir, Ujar, Imishli, Zardab, Beylagan, Agjabadi, Fuzuli, Lachin and Khojavand joined the fight for the title of winner. The winners of the two-day competition were awarded with diplomas and valuable gifts by the Ministry of Education. On April 22, the zonal athletics competition among schoolchildren was held in Astara.

The competition took place within the framework of the zonal competitions among schoolchildren in 14 kinds of sports (cycling, volleyball, table tennis, taekwondo, karate, wrestling, beach soccer, judo, boxing, basketball, badminton, track and field athletics, acrobatics and rhythmic gymnastics) included in the program of the Baku 2015 First European Olympic Games. The representatives of the Ministry of Education, local executive bodies and sports community attended the opening ceremony of the competition. The teams of 9 districts competed for the first place in the competition, held at the Olympic Sports Complex in Astara. According to the results, schoolchildren from Salyan district became the winners of the competition. The teams of Astara and Yardimli districts took 2nd and 3rd places respectively. The winners were awarded with diplomas and medals by the Ministry of Education. It should be noted that the zonal competitions among schoolchildren, organized within the framework of the agitation campaign, conducted on the eve of the first European Games, will continue until the end of May. More than 6 thousand students are expected to participate in competitions.

By the corresponding order of Azerbaijan`s Minister of Education Mikayil Jabbarov, Tanzila Shikhiyeva, director of Aghdash State Humanitarian College, and Eldar Aliyev, director of Shusha Music College, were awarded with the Certificate of Honor of the Ministry of Education for their long-term productive activities in the fields of organization and management of education and personnel training.

On April 23, the Certificate of Honor of the Ministry of Education was presented to Tanzila Shikhiyeva and Eldar Aliyev at the Ministry of Education. Presenting awards, Firudin Gurbanov, Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, emphasized that both specialized secondary educational institutions had passed a rich development path and achieved significant success in terms of personnel training in the relevant fields. He expressed his gratitude to the heads of the institutions for the achievements, gained by them in the organization of teaching, and their productive activities. Tanzila Shikhiyeva and Eldar Aliyev expressed satisfaction with care and attention they received and expressed their gratitude to the leadership of the Ministry of Education. It should be noted that Tanzila Shikhiyeva and Eldar Aliyev were dismissed from their positions according to their own applications relating to working age. Tanzila Shikhiyeva and Eldar Aliyev effectively operated as the College Directors for 35 years. Their work was highly appreciated at the state level. By the orders of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Tanzila Shikhiyeva was awarded with the “Tərəqqi” (Progress) medal in 2005 and received the honorary title "Honored teacher" in 2011. Eldar Aliyev was awarded the honorary title "Honored Art Worker of the Republic of Azerbaijan" in 2008.

Azerbaijani schoolchildren were awarded a gold medal at "Infomatrix Asia & Pacific" computer project Olympiad, held in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The Olympiad, organized by "Darin" science center of Kazakhstan and Suleyman Demirel University, was attended by 250 pupils from nearly 30 countries (Azerbaijan, Turkey, Pakistan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Somalia, Uganda, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Georgia, Venezuela, Jordan, Senegal, Bangladesh, India, South Africa, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, etc.). Azerbaijan was represented by two students of the lyceum “İstək” at the Olympiad. In accordance with the rules, teams competed for the first place in 5 categories - programming, computer art, short film, "hardware" control, "Robotics". Alsu Alizade and Pakiza Guliyeva, 8th grade students of the lyceum "İstək", presented "Line Follower" project in category "Robotics", gained the highest score and won a gold medal. 

On April 23, the zonal volleyball competition among schoolchildren was launched in Tovuz district within the framework of the mass events dedicated to the promotion of 14 kinds of sports, included in the program of the Baku 2015 First European Games, among schoolchildren.

The representatives of the Ministry of Education, local executive bodies and sports community attended the opening ceremony of the competition. The zonal competition, held at Tovuz Olympic Sports Complex, was attended by the teams from Ganja, Shamkir, Tovuz, Agstafa, Gazakh, Gadabay, Goranboy, Goygol, Samukh, Barda, Tartar, Yevlakh, Mingachevir, Naftalan, Kalbajar, Agdam and Khojaly. More than 200 athletes competed in the competitions. It should be noted that the main objective of zonal competitions is to promote 14 kinds of sports, included in the program of the first European Games, among schoolchildren, to direct pupils to a healthy lifestyle and to increase the role of physical education and sports in the patriotic upbringing of the pupils.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the French Republic Francois Hollande who is paying a working visit to the country have held a meeting. During the meeting, the parties expressed satisfaction with the current level of bilateral relations between the two countries. Dynamic development of relations was also emphasized. The sides noted that reciprocal visits of the Heads of States over the last years gave a push to further development of bilateral relations. The parties expressed interest in further expanding relations, saying there was great potential for this. The sides exchanged views on the current state of the negotiations over the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed satisfaction with the activity of French President Francois Hollande towards the settlement of the conflict. The parties discussed regional, international and other issues of mutual interest.

Support measures for the Baku 2015 First European Games are continued by "SABAH volunteer" program in 7 higher education institutions in Baku.

Hundreds of students, studying in SABAH groups of Baku State University, Azerbaijan Architecture and Construction University, Azerbaijan Technical University, Azerbaijan State Economic University, Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University and Azerbaijan University of Languages,  are attending the events, held within the framework of "SABAH Volunteer Week" on April 23-30, 2015. Sports and intellectual competitions, contests, flashmob actions, organized on the basis of the ideas of "SABAH Volunteer" program, are aimed at supporting the Baku 2015 First European Games. The events, organized without leaving education, will create favorable conditions for the efficient organization of the students' leisure time, the development of their management skills and leadership potential, and creative thinking. The mass sporting events, dedicated to the promotion of 14 kinds of sports, included in the program of the First European Games to be held in Baku, among schoolchildren are continued.

The zonal athletics, wrestling, karate, judo and basketball competitions were held respectively in Khachmaz, Shamkir, Shirvan, Gusar and Jalilabad from April 24 to 27. The teams from Guba, Gusar, Khachmaz, Shabran, Siyazan, Khizi districts and Sumgait city competed in the zonal athletics competition, held in Khachmaz Olympic Sports Complex. The teams from Khachmaz, Sumgait and Gusar took 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively. The zonal wrestling competitions were continued in Shamkir Olympic Sports Complex. Wrestlers competed in 5 weight categories (freestyle: 26, 32, 38, 47, 59 kg., Greco-Roman wrestling: 23, 29, 35, 42, 53 kg.) in both styles during the zonal competitions. 178 wrestlers from 18 cities and districts of the republic joined the fight for the title of winner. The zonal karate competitions were held in Shirvan city. The competition, held in Shamkir Olympic Sports Complex, was attended by teams from Shirvan city, Sabirabad, Ujar, Beylagan, Khojavand, Agjabadi, Zardab and Lachin districts. More than 150 athletes competed in Shotokan and Goju-ryu styles of karate. The teams from Khojavand, Zardab and Lachin districts took 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in Shotokan style of karate. The teams from Shirvan city, Beylagan and Hajigabul districts took 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in Goju-ryu style of karate. The zonal judo competition was launched in Gusar Olympic Sports Complex. The competition was attended by 92 pupils from Khachmaz, Guba, Gusar, Shabran, Khizi districts and Sumgait city. The teams from Gusar district, Shabran district and Sumgait city took 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in team score. The zonal basketball competition, held in Jalilabad district, was attended by teams from 10 regions. According to the results of the competitions, held in a tense struggle, the teams from Jalilabad, Salyan and Lankaran districts took 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively. The winners of the zonal competitions were awarded with diplomas and medals of the Ministry of Education. It should be noted that these competitions, organized within the framework of the agitation campaign, conducted on the eve of the first European Games, will continue until the end of May. The film, dedicated to "Scientists of Tomorrow" Fourth National Contest, was made.

The film provides detailed information on the significance and purpose of the contest, held in Baku on February 12-14, 2015. It should be noted that this year`s contest was attended by 195 pupils with 96 scientific projects. 27 of them are individual, 69 of them are collective projects. The pupils of secondary schools of Baku and different regions of the country submitted the projects to the contest. The projects, submitted to the contest, were assessed in 8 categories. 47 projects, awarded with the first 3 places, were determined. The winners were awarded with diplomas, medals and money prizes.
