A team of 15 pupils from secondary schools of the country took part in the 11th International Children's Festival “Let's change the world for the better!” held at the Artek International Children Centre, Ukraine, from 21 July to 2 August.

8 of Azeri pupils, who took part in the festival, were representing Baku European Lyceum, 2 - Young Talents Lyceum of Baku State University and others - Baku Private Turkish Lyceum "Cag" Ogretim Isletmeleri, School-Lyceum Ankara Mektebi, schools No. 159 and 167 of Baku and School-Lyceum “Dafina” of Masalli district. The International Children's Centre “Artek” was established in 1925 and is located in the town of Gurzuf of the Crimean peninsula. The International Children's Festival “Let's change the world for the better!” has been held at Artek since 2001. Since then, the festival was attended by over 4000 pupils from 60 countries. The main goal of the festival is to contribute to the formation of the principles of tolerance, equality of rights, freedom of thought in children. The festival was organized by Ukrainian Charitable Foundation of Hope and Good, and the Artek International Children Centre. The participation of Azeri pupils in the festival was initiated by the State Committee for Family, Women and Children. Azerbaijani delegation was led by a teacher of Baku European Lyceum Aliona Sazonova. The festival was composed of two main parts – sessions of the General Assembly of the International Organization “World Children League of Nations and culture programme “Planet of talents.” During the festival, our delegation was active in all fields and has shown good results. Student of X class of Baku European Lyceum Saleh Jafarov was elected chairman of the International Organization “World Children League of Nations.” He will coordinate the activity of 17 national coordinators of 54 countries during the next year. It should be noted that the International Organization “World Children League of Nations” was founded in 2009. Leaders of children's organizations, members of Youth Parliament and journalists are taken an active part in the work of the league. Student of X class of Baku European Lyceum Rafael Hajibeyli has been elected a coordinator on the theme of “It is fashionable to be healthy!” as one of the 17 ambassadors of good works in the World Children League of Nations. He will coordinate relevant activities within this field in the remaining 54 countries. Student of VIII class of Baku European Lyceum Fidan Ismayilova was awarded a diploma for outstanding work in the International Children's Media Centre and was invited to the International Festival of Journalists, which will be held in Kiev in May 2013. Representatives of the Azeri delegation have won the first three places in the chess tournament held at Yantarni camp. Thus, students of BEL Saleh Jafarov won the first, Murad Ismayilov - the second and Rafael Hajibeyli the third places. Saleh Jafarov has also won the individual competition in Artek chess tournament. It's should be noted that, as a result of daily rehearsals during the month, Azeri students prepared four music and two dance compositions and performed them in the culture programme “Planet of talents” on a par with professional teams from other countries, and have entered to the top ten winners. The number of prepared by Azeri students materials were considered, and they were allocated an additional “tent show.” The Azeri students have organized various competitions, quizzes and games dedicated to Azerbaijan, and the winners were awarded with incentive prizes and souvenirs, lavishly decorated with national symbols. Children from other countries were informed in detail about the customs and traditions, culture and history of Azerbaijan and treated to sweets from the national cuisine. Our students have also won “The most good-natured person” nomination in the Teams Presentation competition. Moreover, our students have received special diplomas for their performances in the camps “Ozyorniy” and “Morskoy."

Results for English language exams held from 6 to 10 August to fill vacant teaching posts at secondary schools and professional lyceums have been announced.

According to the results, 235 candidates have been recruited to become an English language teacher. It should be noted that the examination of primary school teachers has begun in August 13. 3764 applicants will compete to fill 143 vacant posts until August 18.

Admission of students to initial vocational education institutions for 2012/2013 academic year has begun.

The document's submission period dates are August 15th to 31the 2012; the selection of specialties by students will be held from September 1-10. The student admission plan for the next academic year is 20 380 students, including 17 660 on the state expense and 2 720 on a fee-paid basis. The graduation plan is projected 13 238 students, including 1 950 on the fee-paid basis. It was decided that the admission of students to vocational schools of Agdam, Gubadli, Zangilan districts and Shusha cities (No. 24, 126, 144 and 72) the activity of which was suspended will be considered after full recovery of their activities. 

Results for exams held from 13 to 18 August to fill vacant primary school teaching posts have been announced.

According to the results, 143 teachers have been hired for this post. 205 applicants have been recruited to become a primary school teacher according to the results for additional placement to fill vacant and refused teaching posts held on August 18.

On August 24, Education Minister Misir Mardanov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan Sherzod Fayziyev.

Education Minister Misir Mardanov highly praised a high level of mutual relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan and underlined the importance of promoting cooperation in the field of education. He also noted availability of opportunities to expand existing relationships between the two countries.   The Ambassador underlined the interest of Uzbekistan in developing bilateral relations with Azerbaijan, as well as the importance attached by his country to build comprehensive relations with our country. Sherzod Fayziyev has also marked the need to develop scientific, educational and other ties between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.  The Minister expressed his belief that relations between our countries that share common values will further develop, and educational ties will be even more strengthened. Moreover, the sides have discussed the different directions of cooperation in the education field between the two countries, and exchanged views on other issues of common interest.

On August 24, Education Minister Misir Mardanov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of South Korea to Azerbaijan Lee Ji Ha.

Education Minister warmly welcomed the guest and noted the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and South Korea over the recent years. He underlined the importance of cooperation with South Korea within the education projects and expressed his belief that all projects will be successfully implemented. Highlighting the close partnership and friendship between the two countries, Mr. Mardanov said that 76 students from Azerbaijan are currently studying at universities of South Korea. The Minister expressed the great respect of Azerbaijan to South Korea and underlined the important role of Ambassador Lee Ji Ha in the development of mutual relations. Ambassador Lee Ji Ha thanked the Minister for the warm welcome and expressed his pleasure to work in Azerbaijan as an ambassador. He talked about the importance of development of relations in different fields and underlined the importance of educational projects within the bilateral relations. He also underlined the important role of inter-university relations, student exchange programs and other projects in expanding educational cooperation.    Misir Mardanov wished a success to the Ambassador in his future activity, assured him that he will be always remembered as a friend of Azerbaijan, and also expressed his belief that the relations between our countries will be further developed.   

Results for Azeri language and literature exams held from 21 to 24 August to fill vacant teaching posts at secondary schools and professional lyceums have been announced.

According to the results, 318 candidates have been recruited to become an Azeri language and literature teacher. Moreover, 199 applicants have been hired to work as a teacher according to the results for additional placement to fill vacant and refused teaching posts held on August 24.

On August 31, at the Ministry of Education took place a meeting devoted to the main figures of 2011/2012 academic year and forthcoming duties for 2012/2013 academic year.

Education Minister Misir Mardanov welcomed the meeting attendees and talked about works implemented in the 2011/2012 academic year expressing his hope that the upcoming school year will be successful. According to him, in 2012/2013 academic year 1304687 students will be taught by 150998 teachers at 4523 secondary schools and 130454 children are expected to be enrolled in the first grade of schools. Speaking about the modernization of school infrastructure in Azerbaijan, the Minister underlined 167 new education establishments for 50000 children to be opened in the new school year. He also added that extra buildings for 21 schools for 5104 children were built and 103 schools were completely refurbished. The Minister stressed favorable conditions created for the development of the education system and noted that public spending on education has enjoyed year-on-year increases. He grounded his words with specific figures and underlined that fact as a constant care provided by President Ilham Aliyev for the education field. According to him, in conformity with duties assigned to the Ministry by the President, issues such as refurbishment of all state-owned education establishments, provision of new equipments for them and adjustment with current demands will be resolved in the near future. The Minister noted that 194 textbooks and methodical manuals in 4018990 copies for secondary schools were published and delivered to schools. He added the modernization of libraries at 500 schools to be continued as well. Moreover, the mechanism for teacher recruitment was developed by considering an international practice and over 16 000 e-applications were registered this year. According to the results of contest, more than 2500 teachers were recruited to the vacant teaching posts at secondary schools of the country. The Minister also talked about forthcoming duties related to these issues.    Speaking about works regarding the education content, assessment of students’ knowledge, deinstitutionalization, use of ICT in the education, extra-curricular education, further education, study abroad, recognition of educational documents, the Minister shared his views on forthcoming duties. Moreover, Mr. Mardanov touched upon the issues related to the preparation for traditional conferences of education employees held in September and gave his relevant recommendations.

130454 children are expected to be enrolled in the first grade of secondary schools of the country in 2012/2013 academic year.

The number of children enrolled in the first grade in 2011/2012 academic year was 125408, in 2010/2011 school year 120032 children.  36 102 children are expected to be enrolled in the first grade of schools of Baku in the new academic year. Their number has reached 35 509 children in the last school year. According to the relevant Rules confirmed with the order of the Minister of Education, six-year old mentally and physically healthy children are enrolled in secondary schools until September 15. In exceptional circumstances, talented children, who will turn six from September 15 to the end of October, could be enrolled in the first grade based on the conclusion made by the commission established at school. Talented children, who will turn 6 in November, could be enrolled in the first grade based on the relative decision made by the commission established at the Ministry of Education from the beginning of August to 10 September.

Results for History subject exam held to fill vacant teaching posts at secondary schools and professional lyceums have been revealed.

According to the results, 173 candidates have been recruited to become a History teacher. Moreover, 94 applicants have been recruited to become teachers of different subjects according to the results for additional placement to fill vacant and refused teaching posts.
