On January 14-29, 2016, the questions related to the diagnostic evaluation of teachers' knowledge and skills were answered on the Facebook page of the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan Republic. Most of the questions submitted by users were associated with different themes such as the calculation of the wage increase, the date of holding the diagnostic evaluation in other cities and regions, the repeat participation of teachers, who cannot participate in the evaluation process for various reasons, and who have participated but showed poor results, in the examination. It was noted that the diagnostic evaluation of teachers' knowledge and skills would be held in stages in other cities and regions of the country. The teachers, who cannot participate in the diagnostic evaluation for various reasons, may take part in the next evaluation. At the same time, the list of names of teachers, who have participated in the diagnostic evaluation and reached the relevant passing score, was sent to local education governing bodies. Teachers can appeal to Accounting Departments of local education governing bodies in connection with the method of calculating wages and the size of the wage increase.

On January 28, the seminar on the theme "Teacher-student relationships and classroom management" was held at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Absheron district with the organizational support of the Ministry of Education. The seminar was attended by employees of the Ministry of Education, officials of the Executive Power of Absheron District, the leadership and staff of Absheron District Education Department, education experts, directors of general educational institutions of the district, teachers and mass media representatives. The main purpose of the seminar is to support the improvement of teacher-student relationships and to emphasize the role of healthy relationships in improving the quality of education. At the seminar, Vafa Yagublu, Senior Adviser of the Ministry of Education, delivered a presentation on the formation of positive behavioral habits in students, the creation of a healthy environment in general educational institutions, the occupational standards and the code of ethics for teachers.  During the event, the causes of the negative aspects of teacher-student relationships, the main provisions of the ability of teachers to communicate and to collaborate with students were explained and the constructive ways to solve the existing problems were discussed. The speakers noted that the parent factor plays a significant role in regulating the teacher-student relationships. They also underlined the importance of establishing the parent-teacher-student relationship on the basis of sound principles in order to save the reputation of the teacher. In their speeches, they touched upon the issue of further improvement of the work of the Pedagogical Councils in schools. The sports festival was held within the framework of TOPs program at full secondary school No. 18 named after M. Mushfig in Baku. At the festival, more than 100 secondary school students demonstrated their strength and ability in various sports. The festival, held with the leadership of physical education teachers of the school, was also attended by the parents. During the festival, the parents supported their children. The main objective of the festival is to strengthen the health of students, to protect their psychological stability, and to further improve their attitude towards physical education lessons. The event, held as sports and art holiday, has a positive impact on the expansion of socialization among students and the improvement of learning outcomes. It also helps increase students` interest in sports. A delegation led by Jeyhun Bayramov, Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, participates in the conference entitled "European, Middle Eastern and African youth and the threat of terrorism, extremism and intolerance" held in Paris on January 28. The Conference, jointly organized by UNESCO's "Aladdin" project and the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, is attended by Ministers and Deputy Ministers of France, the United States, Tunisia, Turkey, Morocco and other countries, European Union officials, political figures, heads of the leading higher education institutions and representatives of international organizations. It is planned that Jeyhun Bayramov will deliver a speech at the third session of the Conference. During the visit, it is also expected to hold a series of business meetings.

A new competition entitled "From the story of my family" was announced for school communities. Pupils of general educational institutions can participate in the competition to be held by the portal www.community.az in an online format from January 27 to February 20, 2016. The participants will be able to share the most interesting stories of their families with the participants of the school community and will have the opportunity to win prizes from the partners of the portal. Under the terms of the competition, each participant should place the story of his (her) own family (no more than 1000 words) and relevant picture or illustration in a group established for the competition entitled "From the story of my family" of the portal. Parents can help participants choose stories and pictures. The winners will be chosen by the participants and will receive valuable prizes from the partners. “Access Bank” OJSC, "Azerfon" LLC, "Healthy Family" LLC, "Standard Insurance" OJSC were included among the partners. On January 26, the examinations conducted at Baku State University (BSU) were attended by 124 students from 8 specialties. It should be noted that SABAH groups of BSU cover 425 students in 13 specialties. Unlike other students, who took an English language exam at the University, students of SABAH groups were examined on four English language skills  -  speaking, listening, reading and writing. SABAH groups are operating in 45 specialties in 11 higher education institutions which have scientific-pedagogical potential, learning laboratory and material and technical base. 1632 students are studying in these groups and are being taught by about 500 teachers. In SABAH groups, the teaching process is held on the basis of distinctive program, special scholarships are given to students, at the same time, the students from low-income families are provided with a hostel.

Within the framework of the sports program entitled "Olympic Movement" conducted for schoolchildren with the support of the International Olympic Committee, the "Coca-Cola" company - the Worldwide Partner of the Olympic Games, the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, basketball training was held at the secondary school No.18 of Baku city for teams, that won the right to participate in the final stage. The main purpose of the mass sports event is to provide support for the preparation of 12 district teams, that have qualified for the final stage of Baku City Championship in 3x3 basketball, for the competition.   Azerbaijan Basketball Federation supported the holding of the first such mass training under the program. Mr. Cem Becel, General Manager of Azerbaijan Coca-Cola Bottlers, Amil Hamzayev, a member of Azerbaijan`s national basketball team, the program's star athlete, and Tahir Bakhshiev, head coach of Azerbaijan Basketball Federation, attended the event in order to support young basketball players to learn the secrets of this kind of sports more deeply. The event was attended by members of the junior national team in order to make the training-coaching meeting more interesting and to encourage children in this kind of sports. After the inter-team competitions, schoolchildren watched an exemplary game of members of the junior national team. Then, Cem Becel and Amil Hamzayev conducted a Master Class to schoolchildren. At the end of the event, the balls autographed by the athletes were presented as a special keepsake to schoolchildren participating in the competition.

The Forum, held on January 18-20, brought together the Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Education, representing more than 80 countries around the world, the heads of the leading higher education institutions, and the representatives of international organizations and private companies specializing in various fields. On the second day of the Forum, Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education, delivered a speech at the session entitled "The policy for recruitment of teachers, development of their professional activities, quality improvement of learning and teaching". The Minister noted that the year 2015 was the model year in terms of identifying targets for the development of education for all countries and ensuring sustainable development of the educational system until 2030. One of the main objectives is to conduct internal reforms in the educational system and to ensure bilateral and multilateral exchanges. In this context, the exchange of curriculum and improved teaching methodologies can serve as an example. The Minister  told about the reforms carried out in Azerbaijan in the field of education, and drew participants' attention to President Ilham Aliyev's Decree on "National Strategy for the Development of Education in the Republic of Azerbaijan". It was noted that one of the main goals of the strategy was to improve the prestige of the teaching profession. The scholarship program that encourages graduates, who achieved the highest scores in the university entrance exam, to choose a teaching specialty, the organization of advanced training on the module, the diagnostic evaluation of knowledge and skills show that a new phase has begun in this field in terms of quality. According to M. Jabbarov, the educational system should be focused on the overall quality of teaching and learning, and the recruitment of talented graduates should be a priority. Sharing the experience of Azerbaijan in this field, the Minister noted that since 2013, the Ministry of Education had begun the process of recruitment of teachers on the basis of the centralized transparent examination system. Then, the Minister answered the questions of the participants of the Forum within the framework of the session. On January 19, Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education, met with a group of Azerbaijani students, studying in the United Kingdom within the framework of the “State Program on education of Azerbaijani youth abroad for the years of 2007-2015", at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The Minister provided detailed information about the reforms and innovations implemented in Azerbaijan in the field of education. He was also interested in the education of students and wished them success. Within the framework of the visit, the Minister of Education also held a series of business meetings. During the meeting with Andrew Brown, Director of the UCL Institute of Education that took the first place among educational institutions in the QS World University Rankings in 2015, they discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the field of teacher training and its improvement in our country. During the meeting with Anthony Salcito, Vice President of Education at "Microsoft" company, they exchanged views on new trends associated with the use of computer and information technology in education, future plans and projects implemented in this field in our country. Then, Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education, met with Dmitry Livanov, Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. During the meeting, Mikayil Jabbarov noted that his Russian counterpart's official visit to Azerbaijan on November 19-21 last year was fruitful and beneficial for both sides. During the meeting, they discussed the mutual exchange of experience in the field of monitoring of educational institutions and assessment of learners' knowledge at different levels of education, as well as other issues of mutual interest.
