At the ceremony, Firudin Gurbanov, Deputy Minister of Education, provided detailed information about the zonal competitions. F.Gurbanov said that the Ministry of Education holds the zonal competitions, covering all regions of the country, in order to promote 14 kinds of sports, included in the program of the first European Games, among schoolchildren, to direct pupils to a healthy lifestyle and to increase the role of physical education and sports in the patriotic upbringing of the pupils. The zonal competitions, held in 14 kinds of sports, included in the program of the Baku 2015 First European Olympic Games, will continue until the end of May. More than 6 thousand students are expected to participate in competitions. Deputy Minister mentioned that such massive sporting events had been held till now in more than 10 regions within the framework of the zonal competitions, started on April 21, and he also highly appreciated the activity of schoolchildren. The deputy minister noted that such a massive sporting event, covering the whole country, is held among schoolchildren for the first time. These competitions not only encourage pupils in sports, but also create favorable conditions for the expansion of relations among pupils and the holding of sports tournaments on a regular basis. Competition started after the official ceremony. It should be noted that 12 teams, participated in the zonal competition, consist of 4 boys and 4 girls born in 2001 and younger. In accordance with the rules of the International Table Tennis Federation, about 100 tennis players compete in the competition. The zonal tennis competition, started in Baku, will be continued from May 1 to 3 in Salyan, from May 5 to 7 in Ganja, from May 13 to 15 in Shirvan, from May 17 to 19 in Sumgait, from May 21 to 23 in Sheki. The winners will be awarded with diplomas and valuable gifts by the Ministry of Education.

The competition entitled "SABAH LIVE" is held through the official Facebook page of SABAH groups. This competition has been organized with an aim of demonstrating the activity of "SABAH volunteer" and the creativity of volunteers. The winner of the competition, held to support the First European Games, has been determined through a selection process carried out in 2 phases. In the first stage, 12 amateur videos (these videos were prepared by volunteers), expressing support of "SABAH Volunteer" for the Baku 2015 First European Games, were posted on the official Facebook page of SABAH groups. The amateur videos, presented in the first stage of a five-day competition, have received more than 3100 likes and 11 600 views. 5 most liked and watched videos have been presented to the jury. By the decision of the jury, representing 7 higher education institutions, the amateur video (to watch the video clip:http://goo.gl/eFLKPD), prepared by the authorship of Ramal Veliyev, approved by 422 Facebook users and received more than 1000 views, has been selected as winner of “SABAH LIVE”. The winner of the competition will be awarded with ticket to the opening ceremony of the Baku 2015 First European Games in "Volunteer Town" to be organized by "SABAH Volunteer". It should be noted that "SABAH volunteer" program, carried out with the participation of students of SABAH groups, plays a significant role in increasing the social activity and applying knowledge to practice, as well as developing management skills and leadership potential of students without leaving the academic training and by involving students in voluntary activity. SABAH groups have been organized from Educated, Skilled and Trained students studying at higher education institutions under the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan Republic in order to improve the quality of education in higher education, to ensure personnel training in accordance with modern requirements and to create the new environment in the higher education system. The zonal competition, held at Sumgayit Olympic Sports Complex, was attended by the teams of Absheron, Khachmaz, Khizi, Guba districts and Sumgait city. The team from Absheron district won the first place in the competition. The teams from Sumgait city took 2nd and 3rd places in the contest. Another sporting event took place at the Olympic Sports Complex in Masalli. The zonal judo competition among schoolchildren was held in Masalli. The competition was attended by the teams of Masalli, Shirvan, Salyan, Lankaran and Yardimli regions. The teams of Masalli, Shirvan and Salyan districts won 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively in team score. The winners were awarded with diplomas and medals by the Ministry of Education.

The main objective of the project is to ensure the formation of rich imaginations about the university libraries in students and to create favorable conditions for providing them with additional knowledge, as well as to allow schoolchildren to familiarize with the university libraries. 9th-11th grade students (only 8 students from each education institution), selected from Lyceum named after Heydar Aliyev, Educational complex No. 132 -134, Baku Turkish Diyanet Vakfi lyceum and Lyceum of Young Talents, got acquainted with the library of ADA University within the framework of the project. Martha Spirz, the dean of ADA University Library, gave detailed information about the library, led by him, and expressed his opinions about the possibility of using electronic and traditional resources. Pupils shared their impressions about ADA University Library and conducted the evaluation on pre-defined criteria. It should be noted that students of general education institutions are expected to visit the libraries of 6 universities. At the end of the project, higher education institutions will be evaluated by students in terms of capabilities and reader satisfaction of libraries and necessary improving proposals will be made in this sphere. As well as, after getting acquainted with libraries of higher education institutions, students will be able to share information they have obtained on library science, information exchange, the history of libraries and bibliographic work with their peers.

Open lessons were held with the participation of members of the Ecological Training and Experience Centers in Baku and students of the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science of Baku State University. Open lessons, attended by biology, chemistry, geography teachers and 6th-8th grade students of general education institutions, were held in the form of interactive discussions by using  visual aids, electronic presentations, methodological materials, specially prepared by the employees of the Republican Ecological Training and Experience Center. 750 students from 30 general education institutions of Khazar district were informed about the fundamentals of ecology, global environmental issues and environmental protection in the event.

Within the framework of these events, the zonal wrestling competition, held at Hovsan Olympic Sports Complex, among schoolchildren has ended. In the competition, the athletes competed in 10 weight categories in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. 130 athletes from 13 districts of Baku joined the fight for the title of winner. According to the results of the competition, the teams of Narimanov, Nasimi and Khazar districts won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in team score. The zonal athletics competition was organized in Ismayilli district. The teams of Balakan, Zagatala, Gakh, Gabala, Oguz, Ismayilli, Shamakhi and Goychay regions competed in the competition, held at Ismayilli Olympic Sports Complex. The teams of Oguz, Ismayilli and Gabala districts won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively. The zonal volleyball competition was held in Oguz district. The teams of Balakan, Oguz and Sheki districts won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in the zonal competition, held at Olympic Sports Complex. The zonal taekwondo competitions were continued in Ganja. About 170 taekwondo players (boys and girls), representing 18 cities and regions, competed in the zonal competition, held at Ganja Olympic Sports Complex. The teams of Ganja, Goygol and Tovuz districts won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in team score. The winners were awarded with diplomas and medals of the Ministry of Education. It should be noted that these competitions are held in 14 kinds of sports (cycling, volleyball, table tennis, taekwondo, karate, wrestling, beach soccer, judo, boxing, basketball, badminton, track and field athletics, acrobatics and rhythmic gymnastics) included in the program of the Baku 2015 First European Olympic Games.

Mikayil Jabbarov, the Minister of Education, has signed telephonogram addressed to district (city) education departments (agencies) and general education institutions subordinated to the Ministry of Education in order to organize subbotniks in educational institutions in connection with the 70th anniversary of the victory over fascism and the 92nd birth anniversary of the founder of the independent Azerbaijan, national leader Heydar Aliyev. It is planned to carry out landscaping, greenery, cleaning works in the territory of educational institutions on subbotniks to be held with the participation of teachers, students and technical staff.

According to statistics, 7427 calls (9 times more than relevant period of 2013, 2 times more than relevant period of 2014) have been received by Call Center and approximately 3300 calls to Switchboard service. 4279 citizens have served in Citizens Reception Center. Most of the appeals (most of the appeals were connected with inquiry) received by Call Center and Reception Center have been responded immediately and settled operatively. According to their inquiries, 524 citizens have been registered for reception of relevant authorities of The Ministry of Education in electronic form. 1267 documents (713 letters, 442 petitions, 112 other documents) have been received and registered in Reception Center. Most of appeals include the issues like recognition of educational documents (diplomas), admission of children to first grade of general education schools, displacement of students in general education institutions, rehabilitation and resettlement of students in higher education institutions, recruitment of teachers. It should be noted that, Call Center received the appeals mostly on Wednesday (1664 calls) and Thursday (1637 calls) from 10:30 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 15:30 over last month. Citizens Reception Center received the appeals mostly on Wednesday (962 appeals) and Tuesday (853 appeals) from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 16:00.
