For the first time, 28 Azerbaijani universities are represented in the Times Higher Education Impact 2025 ranking
The results of the “THE Impact 2025” rankings, compiled by one of the world's most respected ranking agencies, Times Higher Education (THE), have been announced (https://www.timeshighereducation.com/impactrankings). The rankings assess university performance across 18 ranking tables, covering 17 areas and an overall ranking. They are based on universities' contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The number of Azerbaijani universities represented in this year's ranking increased from 18 to 28. This means an increase of 1.5 times compared to last year. Twenty-five out of the mentioned 28 universities are included in the overall ranking.
This represents approximately 60 per cent of all higher education institutions operating in the country. By way of comparison, this figure ranges from 5 to 35 per cent on average in the South Caucasus and Central Asia region. In this respect, Azerbaijan's result is remarkable in both regional and international contexts.
Baku State University and Khazar University achieved the best results for Azerbaijan in the overall ranking, both ranking within the 401–600 range. Azerbaijan State Economic University and the Baku Higher School of Oil were second in the country in the overall ranking (range 801–1000).
Overall, Azerbaijan maintains its position as a regional leader for five SDGs in this ranking. Notably, Azerbaijani universities were ranked among the top 60 in the world for SDG 1 (Eradicating Poverty) and SDG 10 (Reducing Inequality).
