Baku State University and Israel's Hebrew University of Jerusalem sign agreement on dual diploma program
On May 24, Baku State University (BSU) and the Israel’s Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) signed an agreement on cooperation on a dual-degree program and joint research.
BSU Rector Elchin Babayev, who spoke at the ceremony, noted that the dual degree program will be the beginning of a new era of great scientific achievements and international cooperation for both universities. Thanks to the cooperation, BSU students will work directly with renowned Israeli professors and specialists. In addition to enhancing the students' academic experience, the program will also create new opportunities for cultural exchange and international communication.
In his turn, the Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev, who took part in the ceremony, said that this project is being implemented in accordance with the "State Program for increasing the international competitiveness of the higher education system of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2019-2023”. According to the minister, in accordance with the second direction of the State Double Diploma Program, during these years double diploma programs have been signed between several universities of Azerbaijan and universities of other countries. Under these programs, more than 1,000 citizens of Azerbaijan received diplomas from the most prestigious universities of the world without leaving the country.
The minister noted that the dual degree program signed between BSU and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem is important for students, society and the economy of Azerbaijan. This program will serve the further development of Azerbaijani-Israeli relations and will be successful for both universities.
According to Rufat Azizov, director of the Institute of Education, the project consists of three directions. The first direction includes a dual-degree master's program. The second direction reflects joint research with the participation of young researchers and students of both universities. Within the framework of the program 10 projects will be implemented during 5 years, and each project will last 4 years. The third direction of the project is related to doctoral education in biotechnology.
In his turn, Vice President for International Relations of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Professor Oron Shagrir stressed that the project will give students of both universities the opportunity to conduct joint research and gain international experience.
Speaking at the ceremony, head of the Mountain Jewish Community of Azerbaijan Milikh Yevdayev said the program will further strengthen the alliance between the two peoples.
Then agreements were signed between the universities on cooperation in double-degree programs and joint research.
After the signing ceremony, the Heydar Aliyev Museum and lecture hall were opened at BSU after major reconstruction.
