Third Annual Congress of Caucasus University Association took place at Sheraton Hotel on May 21.
The Congress was attended by Education Minister Mikayil Jabbarov, National Education Minister of Turkey Nabi Avci, Head of Higher Education Council of Turkey Gokhan Cetinsaya, Chairman of Caucasus University Association Ramazan Korkmaz, Deputy Minister of Science and Education of Georgia David Zurabishvili, university rectors and educators.
The event attendees were welcomed by Education Minister of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov. The Minister thanked everyone, who has contributed to the organization of Congress. In his speech, the Minister noted the geostrategic importance of Caucasus region and highlighted the need for expanding cooperation between higher education institutions of the region. Stressing more than 50 universities are members of Caucasus University Association Education Minister Mikayil Jabbarov underlined that inter-universities relations create favorable conditions for mutual experience exchange.
According to him, international students from different countries are studying different specialties at universities of Azerbaijan. He also talked about reforms implemented in the higher education field of the country and touched on future goals regarding organization of universities’ activity in accordance with the demands of modern life and globalized world.
Noting the work on study of Azeri youth abroad gained popularity in the 70’s and 80’s of the 20th century, the Minister underlined that as a result of care provided by the national leader Heydar Aliyev there was created conditions for study of thousands of Azeri youth at the best universities of the USSR. Stressing this policy was continued after the independence of Azerbaijan, the Minister talked about the importance of the ‘State Program for study of Azeri youth abroad for the years 2007-2015’ signed by President Ilham Aliyev. According to him, more than 1200 Azeri youth were sent to the world’s top universities within the State Program and all expenses are funded by the State.
National Education Minister of Turkey Nabi Avci underlined the importance of bilateral relations in reaching peace and tranquility in Caucasus, which is one of the sensitive regions of the world. According to him, the path to a happy future lies in facilitating effective collaboration. From this viewpoint, he expressed his belief in the importance of Association activity highlighting the value given by Turkey to the cooperation in the fields of science, education and student exchange. The Minister noted the importance of Congress in expanding Caucasus University Association and thanked Education Minister of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov for his appreciation of the event.
Further, Head of Higher Education Council of Turkey Gokhan Cetinsaya, Deputy Minister of Science and Education of Georgia David Zurabishvili and Chairman of Caucasus University Association Ramazan Korkmaz made a speech at the event noting the main goal of the Caucasus University Association is to expand cooperation between universities of different countries, contribute to the establishment of relationship with the world’s top universities, as well as support the teacher and student exchange programs. Guests stressed the importance of raising the level of science and education in a global world and the need to develop relations between universities.
Afterwards, there were signed relevant documents regarding further development perspective of Caucasus University Association.
