A qualifying round was held among 6-8th and 9-11th grade students, who would prepare for the International Olympiads in physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, computer science.
The main purpose of qualifying round is to identify candidates-pupils, who would represent Azerbaijan at the International subject Olympiads in 2016, to carry out preparatory work with them throughout the academic year and to ensure a more successful performance of pupils at the International Olympiads.
More than 300 pupils from several regions of Azerbaijan demonstrated their knowledge at the qualifying round which was held among 6-8th grade students. According to the results of the round, 20-25 pupils were chosen for each subject.
Thus, the preparatory work was carried out with nearly 100 pupils from classes VI-VIII, who distinguished themselves by their talents and hard work, on the basis of a special program during the academic year. At the end of the academic year 2015-2016, these pupils are expected to take part in several international subject competitions.
More than 500 pupils participated in the qualifying round which was held among 9-11th grade students. According to the results of this round, 15-20 pupils were chosen for each subject. The pupils, who will be involved in the preparatory courses to be conducted on the basis of a special program during the academic year, will pass exams at certain times of the year. According to the results of exams, members of the team will be determined by the end of the year. However, pupils will be involved in winter and summer Olympiad schools during winter and summer holidays.
Furthermore, it was planned to hold Subject competitions in all cities and regions of the country in order to enhance Azerbaijani schoolchildren`s interest in subjects, to identify talented and hard-working pupils, to instill in them a sense of healthy competition, to motivate pupils to participate in the Olympiads. Subject competitions will be held among 7-8th grade students in physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. The pupils wishing to participate in the Computer Science competition should be registered on website (www.informatika.edu.az) and must solve the computer science questions presented on the website.
