Azerbaijani schoolchildren became the winners of the World Chess Championship.
Schoolchildren between the ages of 7-17 from 34 countries attended the championship held in Pattaya, Thailand.
Azerbaijan was represented by the team of 12 chess players of "Tahsil" Republican Sports Center (RIC) in the competition. This team consists of the winners of the final round of the Republic Championship, held at the end of last year, in different age groups.
According to the results of the competition, Leyla Budagova won 2 gold medals in the classical chess and blitz among girls under the age of 7 years, Shahriyar Iskandarov won a gold medal in the blitz among boys under the age of 15 years, Murad Ibrahimli won a gold medal in the blitz among boys under the age of 13 years. Thus, Azerbaijani schoolchildren won totally 4 gold medals and were awarded the 2th place in team score among 34 countries.
