On May 7, Azerbaijan-Vietnam Friendship Forum started its work at ADA University with the support of the Ministry of Education.
Prior to the forum, the participants visited the grave of national leader Heydar Aliyev, laid a wreath at the monument. Then they laid flowers to the tomb of the well-known scientist-ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva and also visited the Alley of Martyrs.
Vietnamese citizens, who have graduated from higher educational institutions of Azerbaijan in 1970-80s, Members of Parliament, employees of the Ministry of Education, the heads of higher education institutions, Vietnamese students currently studying in Azerbaijan and others attended the Forum.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mikayil Jabbarov, the Minister of Education, said that the initiative to hold the forum was put forward by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev within the framework of his first official visit to Vietnam on May 18-19, 2014, during a meeting with Vietnamese alumni of Azerbaijani universities. The Minister underlined that there are historical relations between the two countries and the visits of Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh to Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan's national leader Heydar Aliyev to Vietnam in the second half of the twentieth century play a crucial role in strengthening these ties.
The Minister of Education mentioned that more than two thousand citizens of Vietnam had studied in Azerbaijan so far and the appointment of them to posts of responsibility in political, economic, military, scientific and educational fields in Vietnam showed that the higher education system of Azerbaijan is able to train qualified personnel.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the forum, Ngo Duc Manh, Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Vietnamese Parliament, noted that Azerbaijan provided a lot of support in the difficult days of Vietnam and hundreds of Vietnamese made a great contribution to the development of Vietnam by studying in the leading higher education institutions of Azerbaijan. He also said that the first official visit of the President of Azerbaijan Republic to Vietnam in 2014 played an important role in the expansion of relations between the two countries. Ngo Duc Manh mentioned that the Vietnamese delegation was very happy to visit Azerbaijan many years later and expressed his gratitude to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the initiative to hold this forum.
Forum will continue its work in sessions, devoted to current state of relations and prospects of further cooperation between Azerbaijan and Vietnam in the political, inter-parliamentary, energy and education spheres.
It should be noted that during the visit to Baku, the Vietnamese delegation visited Baku State University and Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, from which they had graduated, and held meetings with former teachers on May 6.
