On April 21, the zonal wrestling competition among schoolchildren began at the Olympic Sports Complex in Shirvan.
The representatives of the Ministry of Education, local executive bodies and sports community attended the opening ceremony of the competition.
It should be noted that this competition took place within the framework of the zonal competitions among schoolchildren in 14 kinds of sports (cycling, volleyball, table tennis, taekwondo, karate, wrestling, beach soccer, judo, boxing, basketball, badminton, track and field athletics, acrobatics and rhythmic gymnastics) included in the program of the Baku 2015 First European Olympic Games.
Wrestlers competed in 5 weight categories (freestyle: 26, 32, 38, 47, 59 kg., Greco-Roman wrestling: 23, 29, 35, 42, 53 kg.) in both styles during the zonal competition. 160 wrestlers from Hajigabul, Shirvan, Sabirabad, Saatli, Kurdamir, Ujar, Imishli, Zardab, Beylagan, Agjabadi, Fuzuli, Lachin and Khojavand joined the fight for the title of winner.
The winners of the two-day competition were awarded with diplomas and valuable gifts by the Ministry of Education.
It should be noted that the zonal competitions among schoolchildren, organized within the framework of the agitation campaign, conducted on the eve of the first European Games, will continue until the end of May. More than 6 thousand students are expected to participate in competitions.
The main objective of zonal competitions is to promote 14 kinds of sports, included in the program of the first European Games, among schoolchildren, to direct pupils to a healthy lifestyle and to increase the role of physical education and sports in the patriotic upbringing of the pupils.
