Baku hosts Azerbaijan Investment Summit
The event organized by The Economist Events on "The non-oil sector is leading field of the real economy" was attended by the government officials of a number of countries including Azerbaijan, large-company executives, economists and experts.
The main goal of the summit was to discuss the main prospects, opportunities and challenges of the countries with transition economy.
The event chaired by the John Andrews, editor of The Economist magazine began with the speeches about diversification opportunities of the oil economy of Azerbaijan and its impact to different spheres of the country's economy.
Minister of Communications and High Technologies, Ali Abbasov speaking about development trends of information technologies and its relation with 2020 goals of Azerbaijan highlighted that ICT was the major economic phenomenon of the new century.
At the summit, Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Education made a report on "Education to ensure national growth"
The minister highlighted that in modern era, the relations between the education system and employers were changing and said that the main goal of this time is to establish a modern education system meeting the requirements of our times. Studies have shown that socio-economic progress is the result of advanced education system. Given these factors, the government implements educational reforms and new projects.
Mikayil Jabbarov gave broad information about innovations of the education system to the summit participants. The Minister noted that there had been prepared the Action Plan based to "National Education Development Strategy" considered the major document for realization of educational reforms and the plan was approved by the head of the state in January of this year. This plan is a roadmap for achieving the goals specified in the strategy. The Ministry of Education had already started to implement the Strategy in collaboration with relevant government agencies.
The Minister gave information and expressed his views about SABAH groups, the result of "State Program on education of Azerbaijan youth abroad in the years 2007-2015", innovations implemented to improve the social well-being of the learners and other issues.
In her speech, Sevinj Hasanova, Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry touched the challenges set by the global economic changes before our country.
The event attended by the leading representatives of the education, banking, technology and industrial sectors involved the panel discussions on "Energy sector - the next chapter: the development of the basis of Azerbaijan economic power", "Outside the framework of the oil economy: establishment of competitive micro basis", "Innovation, entrepreneurship and diversification: avoiding obstacles", "Digital Age: the role of technology and telecommunications in the new economic conditions", "Sports events: Azerbaijan's position in the world" and "Diversification: increasing the share of non-oil sector".
