Deputy Minister of Science and Education meets with the Rector of the Istanbul Technical University

On December 18, Deputy Minister of Science and Education Hasan Hasanli met with a delegation headed by the Rector of the Istanbul Technical University of the Republic of Turkey, Dr. Ismail Koyuncu.   During the meeting, the sides discussed current status and prospects of cooperation between the higher educational institutions in our country and the Istanbul Technical University.

The opening ceremony of the International Steam Azerbaijan Festival kicks off

The opening ceremony of the International Steam Azerbaijan Festival 2023 was held on December 4 at the Baku Expo Centre with the support of the Ministry of Science and Education. The opening ceremony was attended by officials from government agencies, members of the National Assembly, rectors, directors of research institutes under the Ministry of Science and Education, well-known members of the public, and other guests. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev welcomed the guests and noted that the festival, traditionally held for the third time, is a prestigious and significant event in the field of education. The minister said that in the new science and education standards to be written in 2025, it is envisaged that some elements of STEAM will become part of the national curriculum. So, in the new standards, some elements of 3D robotics will be included in the content of the technology discipline. The Minister emphasized that the future goal is to ensure the all-round development of the next generation, rather than dividing it into humanitarian or technical aspects. At the end of his speech, the minister thanked everyone who contributed to the organization of the festival and wished the participants success. In his speech at the festival, the head of the project "Steam Azerbaijan," Igrar Nazarov, spoke in detail about the project and the festival. Igrar Nazarov said that now the Steam project covers 396 schools and more than 150,000 students all over the country, and 25 Steam centers are functioning. He noted that by 2026, the number of students in the project is planned to reach 280,000.  It was noted that teams from 11 countries would compete at the final stage of the festival. A total of 868 domestic and 159 foreign participants will compete at the final stage. The jury of 96 people representing countries such as England, Norway, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Turkey, and Azerbaijan will participate in various competition categories at the SAF 2023—International STEAM Azerbaijan Festival, which will last until December 8.     It was noted that SAF 2023, organized at the international level, is held in the format of 12 competitions and 1 exhibition of innovative projects. The purpose of the festival is to support STEAM-based education, nurture 21st-century skills among students, identify and network creative, digitally savvy students, and research international experience in innovation and digitalization.  

Deputy Minister of Science and Education visits Georgia

The delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Science and Education Hasan Hasanli visited Georgia.   Within the framework of the visit, members of the delegation visited the monument to the national leader in Heydar Aliyev Park in Tbilisi and laid a wreath in front of it.   Then a meeting was held with the Georgian Minister of Education and Science, Giorgi Amilakhvari. In the course of the meeting, they discussed the activity of schools teaching in Azerbaijani and Georgian languages in both countries, the organization of teachers' professional development. The exchange of textbooks for these educational institutions was highly appreciated. The sides also touched upon the necessity of the exchange of students and teachers, and the issues of inter-university cooperation.   Within the framework of the visit, the Deputy Minister met with the Rector of Tbilisi State University named after Ivane Javakhishvili, Jaba Samushia. Discussions were held on opening a specialty of "Azerbaijani language and literature" at the said university, and the Heydar Aliyev assembly hall, which opened in May this year, was visited. Deputy Minister Hasan Hasanli also met with the Rector of Georgian Technical University, David Gurgenidze. The Deputy Minister toured the place where the Center for Azerbaijani Studies would be opened at the mentioned university.  

The Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan is on a visit to our country

The delegation led by the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation, Ilsur Khadiullin, is on a visit to our country.   Within the framework of the visit, the guests visited the Alley of Honor, honored the memory of national leader Heydar Aliyev, and laid wreaths and flowers at his tomb. They also visited the tomb of outstanding scientist-ophthalmologist and academician Zarifa Aliyeva and honored the memory of martyrs (shahids) in the Alley of Martyrs who died in the struggle for Azerbaijan's independence and territorial integrity.   Then Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev met with Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan Ilsur Khadiullin. During the meeting, Emin Amrullaev informed the guests about the work done to develop the education sector in our country. The parties discussed the current state and prospects of relations and, in particular, emphasized the availability of broad opportunities for cooperation in the areas of vocational education and support for teachers' professional development.   As part of the visit, the guests visited the Steam Innovation Center. The delegation was informed about the conditions created in the center. It was reported that the center has an aviation center, classic Newton zones, Newton for children, a center for games and constructions, Heureka Classics science centers, a robot training laboratory, a 3D hologram, and VR (virtual reality).    The delegation also visited Baku State University (BSU) and met with Rector Elchin Babayev. During the meeting, they discussed cooperation relations between BSU and higher education institutions in the Republic of Tatarstan. Minister Ilsur Khadiullin also met with professors and lecturers who studied at Kazan Federal University and currently work at BSU.   On November 21, the guests visited Baku European Lyceum and got acquainted with the conditions created in the institution as well as the educational process.   On November 22, a meeting was held with the delegation at the State Agency for Vocational Education. During the meeting, they discussed the exchange of experience and teachers in the field of vocational education and the implementation of the "Twin Schools" project. The guests also visited the Baku State Vocational Education Center on Industry and Innovations.

The Deputy Minister of Science and Education attends the meeting of the intergovernmental commission

Deputy Minister of Science and Education Firudin Gurbanov visited the city of Rabat of the Kingdom of Morocco from 12 to 15 November to participate in the 2nd session of the Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco.   Within the framework of the visit, Firudin Gurbanov also took part in the 1st Azerbaijani-Moroccan Business Forum.

President Ilham Aliyev examined works to be accomplished in Girls' Gymnasium historical building

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva have got familiar with the works to be accomplished in the Girls' Gymnasium historical building in the city of Shusha.   The head of state and the First Lady were informed about the historical monument.   The independent girls' school in Shusha was founded on October 26, 1875 by the “Charitable Society” organized by the people of Shusha. Regardless of their religious beliefs and origins, all girls were given the opportunity to study here.   The building also functioned as a boarding school during the Soviet era. In the future, it is planned to use this building as a decorative and applied art center and an administrative building for cultural fields.   https://president.az

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva have attended the opening of the Shusha City Secondary School No1.   The head of state and the First Lady were informed of the conditions created in the 960-seat school.   The three-storey school building consists of five blocks. The school has 40 classrooms, 2 physics rooms, 2 chemistry rooms, 2 biology rooms, 2 technology rooms, 2 computer labs, a STEAM center, library, reading room, medical point, canteen, assembly hall, gym and a football pitch.   https://president.az

President Ilham Aliyev viewed buildings of vocational school and college in city of Shusha

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva have viewed the buildings of a vocational school and a college in the city of Shusha.   Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev informed the head of state and the First Lady of the works to be carried out.   The vocational school and college are located in the historic Hamamgabaghi, Seyidli and Julfalar quarters of Shusha.   President Ilham Aliyev toured the territory of the vocational school and college, and gave his instructions and recommendations.   https://president.az

The success of our students at the 34th International Biology Olympiad

Our students successfully performed at the 34th International Biology Olympiad held in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates on July 3-11. Our team, represented by 4 students, won 2 bronze medals and 1 incentive prize in the competition with 293 students from 76 countries.   At the Olympiad, 11th grade students of Ganja Physics, Mathematics and Informatics Oriented Lyceum, Zahrabayim Abdullayeva and Nurlan Mammadov won bronze, and 11th grade student of Guba Physics, Mathematics and Informatics Oriented Lyceum, Kanan Orujaliyev, was awarded an incentive prize.   We congratulate our students and wish them new achievements!

The Azerbaijani Minister of Science and Education meets with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Azerbaijan

On November 2, the Azerbaijani Minister of Science and Education, Emin Amrullayev, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Wada Junichi. During the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the implementation of 89 educational projects under the “Grass Roots and Human Security” grant program presented by the Government of Japan since 2000. In addition,  discussions were held on the implementation of the said program in the coming years in accordance with the list of needs determined by the Ministry of Science and Education. The Ambassador noted that 9 Japanese-language specialists have been sent to Azerbaijan over the past 22 years to teach Japanese language to students at Baku State University with the support of the Government of Japan. The sides exchanged views on the continuation of the mentioned cooperation in the coming years. At the meeting, the sides also discussed the possibilities of applying the Kumon method, unique to the Japanese education system, to secondary schools in Azerbaijan with the support of the Ministry of Science and Education.
