Olimpiads
The subject Olympiads are playing a specific role in the identification of talented children and youth, in their encouragement, as well as in raising the healthy rivalry in the education. In the “State program on the development of creative potential of children (youth) with special talent (2006-2010)” it has been taken into account, and defined the important measures to strengthen the Olympiad movement. In accordance with fulfillment of these measures and directive letter of the Ministry are being organized Olympiad preparation centers in the local areas. Moreover, notable teachers and methodologists are attracting to these centers. Due to carried out works were selected pupils, who deserved to take part in the different subject Olympiads, and the control over their preparation was strengthened. According to the demand of State Program was established the scholarship for the talented pupils, which gave a stimulus to the Olympiad movement. In accordance with the respective order of the Minister participants of the World Subject Olympiads are free from the school every year (in April and November). The pupils of 11th grade, who have won the first place at the Olympiad, are free from the school leaving exams. In 2007/09 academic years, 3 154 people took part in the Republican phase of Pupils Subject Olympiad, including 642 in Azerbaijan language and literature subject, 502 in mathematics, 327 in physics, 331 in chemistry, 583 in biology, and 111 in information science. The 1 053 (33.4 %) participants won the first and fourth places: 79 (7.5 %) of them won the first, 133 (12.6 %) the second, 219 (20.8 %) third and 622 (59.1 %) 4th places. Diplomas and medals were distributed to the winners of the first and 3rd places, an honor certificate to the 4th place.
The organization works on the participation of pupils in the International Olympiad in subjects of physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology and information science were completed on time. Moreover, issues such as defining the composition of teams, preparing orders about their participation in Olympiads, visa and travel allowance is being fulfilled as well.
